October Yearling Sale begins Tuesday, October 8th

The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2019 October Yearling Sale begins Tuesday, October 8th. There are 647 yearlings cataloged for the two-day sale, which gets underway at 12:00 noon with 225 horses offered in the Selected session.

The sale continues with an Open session on Wednesday, October 9th, beginning at 10:30 a.m, with Hip No.’s 301 – 722 to be offered.

Fifty yearlings were supplemented to the sale after the catalog was printed in September. Twenty-one horses (Hip No’s 205 – 225) were added to the Selected session and 29 (Hip No’s 694 – 722) to the Open session. Their catalog pages are available via the OBS website at obssales.com and in printed form at the sales grounds.

Walking videos of many of the Selected yearlings may be viewed through the Sortable Master Index on the OBS website. The website’s improved searchable and sortable master index provides links to videos, pedigree and consignor information as well as pedigree updates occurring since the catalog was printed. It has also been updated to allow shortlist creation.

The iPad version of the catalog is available via the equineline Sales Catalog App. The App allows users to download and view the catalog, record notes and also provides innovative search, sort and rating capabilities. For information and downloads visit: http://www.equineline.com/SalesCatalogApp/

The sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the DRF, TDN and BloodHorse websites. The website now includes a Spanish language section which can be accessed from the home page. The section’s index links to information for consignors and buyers, as well as press releases and important general information.

There are several notable recent updates since the catalog was printed.

  • Hip No. 2, a colt by Adios Charlie, is a half brother to newly stakes placed Florida-bred OBS graduate Me and Mr. C., second in Laurel’s Howard County Stakes.
  • Hip No. 3, a filly by Constitution, is out of a half sister to the dam of newly stakes placed Florida-bred Smash Factor, by Khozan, second in last Saturday’s FTBOA Florida Sire In Reality Stakes at Gulfstream.
  • Hip No. 43, a filly by Kitten’s Joy, is a full sister to 3-year-old Solar Kitten, third in the Virginia Oaks at Charles Town on August 31st.
  • Hip No. 48, a colt by Laoban, is out of a half sister to the dam of newly stakes placed Skygaze, third in Saturday’s Mazarine Stakes (G3) at Woodbine.
  • Hip No. 58, a colt by Kitten’s Joy, has a newly minted stakes winning half brother in Catch a Bid, winner of Saratoga’s Riskaverse Stakes on August 22nd.
  • Hip No. 66, a colt by Into Mischief, is out of a half sister to the dam of Florida-bred Bean, a 2-year-old filly by Bernardini, a 7-3/4 length maiden special winner at Arlington on September 20th.
  • Hip No. 76, a colt by Sky Mesa, is out of Happy Choice, a half sister to the dam of Perfect Alibi, winner of the Spinaway (G1) in September and second in Friday’s Alcibiades Stakes (G1) at Keeneland.
  • Hip No. 130, a filly by Texas Red, is a half sister to newly stakes placed Over Thinking, second on August 16th in Del Mar’s CTT and TOC Stakes.
  • Hip No. 186, a colt by Brody’s Cause, is out of a half sister to the dam of Adventist, winner of yesterday’s Greenwood Cup Stakes (G3) at Parx Racing.
  • Hip No. 199, a colt by Prospective, is a half brother to Florida-bred Chance It, a 7-1/4 length winner of Gulfstream’s FTBOA Florida Sire In Reality Stakes last Saturday.

    Hip No. 375, a daughter of Paynter, has a newly stakes placed full sister in Amandrea, second on September 4th in the Indiana Grand Stakes.
  • Hip No. 476, a filly by Flat Out, is a half sister to the dam of stakes winner Unmachable, winner of the Washington Cup Juvenile Colts and Geldings Stakes
  • Hip No. 507, a son of Treasure Beach, is out of a half sister to newly graded stakes placed Love So Deep (JPN), second in Deauville’s Darley Prix de Pomone (G2) on August 18th.
  • Hip No. 526, a filly by Khozan, is a half sister to 2-year-old Florida-bred OBS graduate filly Big Affair, a six length maiden special winner at Gulfstream on September 28th.
  • Hip No. 661, a daughter of Central Banker, has a newly stakes placed half brother in OBS graduate Mission Wrapitup (March ’19), third in Finger Lakes’ New York Breeders’ Futurity last Monday.

Neptune’s Storm, A Thread of Blue one-two in Belmont’s Hill Prince Stakes

Cybertec International Inc., Saul Gevertz, Lynn Gitomer, Mike Goetz and Daniel Weiner’s Neptune’s Storm sat just off the pace set by fellow OBS graduate A Thread of Blue ( March ’18) in Saturday’s $401,200 Hill Prince Stakes (G2) at Belmont Park, went after him down the stretch and earned a hard fought three quarter length victory. Henley’s Joy (April ’18) was fourth in a three way photo for place. It’s the first graded stakes win for the 3-year-old Stormy Atlantic gelding, trained by Richard Baltas, now 12-5-2-3 with earnings of $529,585. McShane Racing LLC’s Stubbins scored his first graded stakes win in the $200,000 Woodford Stakes (G2) at Keeneland on Saturday, trailing in the early going, moving into contention on the turn and charging down the stretch to a three quarter length victory. It’s the second stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Morning Line, who turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat before he was purchased for $130,000 out of the Julie Davies consignment at the 2018 OBS March Sale. Engage scores in Keeneland’s Stoll Ogden Phoenix Stakes

Woodford Racing LLC’s Engage was rated off the pace in the $250,000 Stoll Ogden Phoenix Stakes (G2) at Keeneland on Friday, circled six wide on the turn to reach contention, kept coming on the outside down the stretch and was best by half a length at the wire. It’s the second graded stakes win for the 4-year-old son of Into Mischief, purchased for $550,000 out of the Crupi’s New Castle Farm consignment at the 2017 OBS March Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :9 4/5. Dream Bigger leads OBS sweep of New York Breeders’ Futurity

Repole Stable’s Dream Bigger picked a nice spot to break his maiden, leading a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of Monday’s $204,713 New York Breeders’ Futurity at Finger Lakes. After a pair of second place finishes at Saratoga and Belmont, the 2-year-old colt by Mission Impazible took the lead at the start of the Breeders’ Futurity and never looked back, drawing off down the stretch and winning by 10-3/4 lengths over My Italian Rabbi (January ’18) with Mission Wrapitup (March ’19) settling for third. Now 3-1-2-0 for trainer Rudy Rodriguez, he has earned $150, 828 to date. Midnight Bisou best in Belmont’s Beldame Stakes

Bloom Racing Stable LLC, Madaket Stables LLC and Allen Racing LLC’s Midnight Bisou pressed the pace from the inside early in the $300,000 Beldame Stakes (G2) at Belmont Park on Saturday, took the lead in the turn, turned back a stretch run by Wow Cat (CHI) a sixteenth from home and drew away to win by 3-1/4 lengths. The 4-year-old daughter of Midnight Lute, who turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 before she was purchased by Jeffrey Bloom for $80,000 out of the Woodford Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2017 April Sale, is seven for seven this year, all in graded stakes races. Mongolian Stable’s Mongolian Groom was ignored at 25-1 in the $300,351 Awesome Again Stakes (G1) on Saturday at Santa Anita, but took the lead at the start, shook loose turning for home, turned back a run by odds-on favorite McKinzie and drew off late to a 2-1/4 length victory. It’s the first stakes win for the 4-year-old son of OBS graduate Hightail, trained by Enebish Ganbat, now 16-3-2-3 with $579,141 in earnings. Jeff Drown and Don Rachel’s Structor chased the leaders from the outside in Saturday’s $200,000 Pilgrim Stakes (G3) at Belmont, rallied on the turn, took over three sixteenths out and held off a late charge by fellow OBS graduate Andesite (March ’19) to score by a head. The 2-year-old colt by Palace Malice, consigned by Pick View LLC, Agent, sped an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5 before he was sold for $850,000 at the 2019 OBS March Sale. Gary Barber’s Two Sixty was much the best in the $400,000 FTBOA Florida Sire My Dear Girl Stakes, going right to the front and staying there all the way, romping to a 6-1/4 length victory. Fellow OBS graduate Ceci Valentina (October ’18) checked in third. It’s the first stakes win for the 2-year-old Florida-bred filly by Uncaptured, a two time OBS graduate. She was sold first by Summerfield, Agent, at the 2018 October Sale before she was purchased for $260,000 out of the SGV Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2019 March Sale after an Under Tack eighth in :9 4/5. Nice Guys Stables’ Extrordinary Jerry relaxed well off the pace in the early going of the $150,000 FTBOA Florida Sire Wildcat Heir Stakes, but rallied on the turn, took charge at the head of the stretch and cruised from there to a 10-1/4 length victory over fellow OBS graduate Wildwood’s Beauty (October ‘18). It’s the first stakes score for the 4-year-old Florida-bred son of Overdriven, trained by Todd Pletcher, now 17-4-3-2 with earnings of $260,106. Ken & Sarah Ramsey’s Graceful Kitten is three for three with two stakes victories after leading from start to finish and scoring by two lengths in the $75,000 Armed Forces Stakes. The 2-year-old son of Kitten’s Joy, trained by Amador Sanchez, broke his maiden at first asking in June, and took the Proud Man Stakes in his second start in August. He has earned $126,610 to date. OBS graduates scored a pair of stakes wins on Saturday at Laurel.

Maxis Stable, Madaket Stables LLC and Wonder Stables’ Miss J McKay was away slowly in the $100,000 Anne Arundel County Stakes, but moved up between horses on the turn, blew past the leaders to take charge after straightening away in the stretch and romped home a five length winner. It’s the first stakes win for the 2-year-old filly by Hangover Kid, consigned by Costanzo Sales, Agent, to the 2019 OBS April Sale, where she went through the ring after breezing an eighth in :10 2/5 at the Under Tack Show. Lady Sheila Stable and Iris Smith Stable’s Tiz He the One sat just off the early pace in the $75,000 Challedon Stakes, went after the leaders in the stretch, passed them with a rush a furlong out and won by 3-1/2 lengths. It’s the first stakes win for the lightly raced 5-year-old gelding by Tiz Wonderful, trained by Linda Rice, now 11-5-0-1 with earnings of $158,825. Lucky Man Racing LLC’s Justaholic took charge early in Saturday’s $112,000 Rainbow Heir Stakes at Monmouth and was never headed, opening up daylight on the turn and galloping from there to a 4-3/4 length victory. That’s two stakes wins for the 4-year-old son of Justin Phillip, purchased for $40,000 out of the Wavertree Stables consignment at the 2017 OBS April Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. October supplemental catalog and walking videos now online

The supplemental catalog to the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2019 October Yearling Sale is now available on the company’s website at obssales.com.

Twenty yearlings have been supplemented to the Selected Yearling Sale as Hip No.’s 205 – 224. Twenty-nine yearlings have been supplemented to the Open Yearling Sale, cataloged as Hip No.’s 694 – 722.

The supplemental catalog will be available in print at the sales grounds.

There are now 224 yearlings cataloged for the Selected Yearling Sale. Scheduled for Tuesday, October 8th, it will begin at 12:00 noon. The first group of Walking videos of the Selected yearlings is now available on the website and more will be added in the next few days. Videos will also be uploaded to the iPad version shortly. “The evolution from still photos to walking videos has been well received by both consignors and buyers,” said OBS Director of Sales Tod Wojciechowski. The videos provide a much more meaningful way to gain information in advance of the sale.”

There are now 422 yearlings cataloged in the Open Yearling Sale, set to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9th.

“We were delighted with the response to the supplemental entry program a year ago, in both the quality of the offerings and their reception in the marketplace,” said Wojciechowski. “We have again cataloged a number of horses perhaps not shown at their best advantage earlier in the season, but the additional time to mature should enhance their appeal.”

As always, the Sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the DRF, TDN and BloodHorse websites.

Stephanie Seymour Brant’s Significant Form was away slowly in Saturday’s $200,000 Noble Damsel Stakes (G3) at Belmont Park, but chased the leaders on the outside, surged to the lead after turning for home and drew off down the stretch to score her second straight graded stakes victory by 2-3/4 lengths. Trained by Chad Brown, the 4-year-old daughter of Creative Cause has posted four graded wins, compiled a 12-5-1-0 record and earned $804,865 to date. Gold Square LLC’s Cleon Jones sat just off the pace on the outside in Friday’s $145,800 Bertram F. Bongard Stakes at Belmont Park, moved to challenge after turning for home and was best by a head in a three horse photo finish, with fellow OBS graduate City Man (April ’19) a nose back in third. It’s the first stakes win for the 2-year-old colt by Tale of the Cat, who turned in an Under Tack quarter in :21 flat before he was purchased for $325,000 out of the Eddie Woods consignment at the 2019 OBS March Sale. Curragh Stables’ Killybegs Captain relaxed off the pace on the inside early in Saturday’s $250,000 Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash Stakes (G3), came out for the drive, took the lead a furlong from home and held on gamely for a three quarter length victory. It’s the first graded stakes win for the 5-year-old son of Mizzen Mast, trained by John Terranova, leaving him with a 24-6-5-3 career record and $521,453 in earnings. Robert V. LaPenta and Head of Plains Partners LLC’s Coal Front took the lead at the start of Saturday’s $153,500 Parx Dirt Mile Stakes from the outside, was headed inside at the eighth pole and then came again to regain control and win by three quarters of a length.  It’s the sixth stakes victory for the 5-year-old graded stakes winning son of Stay Thirsty, consigned to the 2016 OBS April Sale by Kirkwood Stable, Agent, where he breezed an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5 before he was sold for $575,000 to Steven W. Colts Neck Stables’ LLC’s Meru is two for two and a stakes winner after taking the lead at the start of the $75,000 Smoke Glacken Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday and never looking back, turning back a challenge from fellow OBS graduate As Seen On Tv (April ’19) and beating him by 3-1/4 lengths. The 2-year-old colt by Sky Mesa sped an Under Tack eighth in :9 4/5 before he was sold for $300,000 by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, at the 2019 OBS April Sale. Pewter Stable’s Dubini relaxed well off the pace early in Saturday’s $100,000 Laurel Dash Stakes on the turf, but circled the field on the turn, sustained his run down the stretch and was up in the final yards to score by three quarters of a length. It’s the first stakes win for the 6-year-old graded stakes placed son of Gio Ponti, trained by Kathleen Demasi, now 18-5-5-1 with $324,775 in earnings. OBS graduates posted three stakes wins on Saturday night at Charles Town.

Scott and Evan Dilworth’s Lady T N T led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of the Charles Town Oaks (G3), leading from start to finish and beating Irish Mischief (April ’18) by two lengths, with Taylor’s Spirit (April ’18) another length back in third. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old daughter of Justin Phillip, trained by Joe Sharp, now 10-3-3-0 with $323,312 in earnings. She breezed an Under Tack eighth in :9 4/5 before she was purchased for $335,000 out of the McKathan Bros. consignment at the 2018 OBS March Sale.  watch her under tack video 

D. J. Stable’s Colby stepped into stakes company fresh off a maiden score in Charles Town’s $100,000 Dickie Moore Stakes, stalked the early pace, came after the leaders in the lane and was up late to win by three quarters of a length, with fellow OBS graduate Majestic Edge (June ’19, April ’19) a nose back in third. The 2-year-old Super Saver filly, consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent, to the 2019 OBS March Sale, was sold for $440,000 after speeding a quarter in :20 2/5 at the Under Tack Show. Danny J. Chen’s well traveled Yorkiepoo Princess shipped into Charles Town for the $75,000 Misty Bennett Pink Ribbon Stakes, pressed the pace, took over at the head of the stretch and eased away late to a two length victory. That’s five stakes wins for the 5-year-old graded stakes placed Florida-bred daughter of Kantharos, trained by Claudio Gonzalez, now 27-7-3-2 with $551,177 in earnings. The two time OBS graduate was sold by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, at the 2015 August Sale before her purchase by Mr. Chen for $8,000 out of the Niall Brennan Stables consignment at the 2016 April Sale after an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. watch her under tack video 

John Pinkerton’s Black Ops picked up his first stakes win in Albuquerque’s $55,000 Budweiser Special Handicap on Saturday, leading from start to finish and winning by 3-3/4 lengths. The 6-year-old gelding by Hard Spun is a two time OBS graduate, going through the ring at the 2015 March Sale and then breezing an Under Tack quarter in :21 2/5 before he was sold for $20,000 by Whitman Sales, Agent, at the 2015 June Sale. Pair of OBS Yearling Sale graduates post graded wins

A pair of OBS Yearling Sale graduates scored graded stakes victories over the weekend.

Blue Heaven Farm’s Starship Jubilee successfully defended her title in Woodbine’s $253,500 Canadian Stakes (G2) on Saturday, taking the lead at the start and never looking back, opening a long lead on the turn and coasting to victory by 4-1/4 lengths. It’s the sixth stakes win for the multiple graded stakes winning 6-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Indy Wind, trained by Kevin Attard, now 30-13-4-3 with earnings of $865,670. A two time OBS graduate, she was sold by The Acorn at the 2014 August Yearling Sale and then consigned by Halcyon Hammock Farm, Agent, to the 2015 April Sale where she worked an eighth in :10 2/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch her under tack video

ERJ Racing LLC, Great Friends Stable LLC and Tom Mansor’s Lazy Daisy is two for three and a graded stakes winner after dueling for the lead from the start of Saturday’s $200,000 Pocahontas Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs, putting away her rival in deep stretch and easing away to win by a length and a quarter. The 2-year-old filly by Paynter is a two time OBS graduate, consigned by First Finds to the 2018 October Yearling Sale before she was purchased for $39,000 by Mr. Mansor out of the Off the Hook consignment at the 2019 April Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. Marianne Stribling, Force Five Racing LLC and Two Rivers Racing Stable LLC’s Phat Man was in no rush in the early going of Sunday’s $75,000 Good Magic Mile Stakes at Monmouth Park, but circled horses on the turn to reach the leaders, took the lead in the stretch and held on gamely to score by a head. It’s the second stakes win for the 5-year-old gelding by Munnings, trained by J. Kent Sweezey, leaving him with a 23-6-6-1 career record and $353,823 in earnings. Live racing returns to the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company Tuesday, November 26th. Two sprint stakes for OBS sale graduates headline the day. Free nominations to both races close Tuesday, November 12, 2019. The position on the calendar provides horsemen a stakes opportunity before the kickoff of the Gulfstream Park Championship and the Tampa Bay Downs meets.

The OBS Sprint and the OBS Filly and Mare Sprint are for three years old and upward. Both stakes races will be run over six furlongs, each with a guaranteed purse of $125,000, restricted to OBS graduates. Entries will be taken on Tuesday, November 19th. Both races will be run as non-wagering events.

There is a fee of $1,250 to enter and $2,500 to start. All starters finishing fifth through last will earn $5,000. Supplementary nominations of $500 may be made at time of entry for those horses missing the free nomination deadline. 2019 OBS Sprint Stakes

There will be pari-mutuel wagering available on eight races, featuring quarter horse races for two year olds as well as for three years old and upward at distances from 220 yards to 440 yards. Up to four thoroughbred maiden and starter allowance races may be used as substitute races. Purses range from $4,000 to $7,000 with all starters guaranteed a minimum of $200. Wildwood’s Beauty wins Gulfstream’s Sheer Drama Stakes

William Stiritz’s Wildwood’s Beauty rated just off the early lead in Saturday’s $100,000 Sheer Drama Stakes at Gulfstream Park, surged to the lead after turning for home and ran off to a convincing 3-3/4 length victory. Fellow OBS graduate Ms Meshak (August ’16) checked in third. It’s the third stakes win for the 3-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Kantharos, consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, to the 2017 October Yearling Sale, where she was purchased by Mr. Stiritz for $47,000. Now 8-4-3-0 for trainer Scott Becker, she has earned $254,360.

 

OBS graduates posted three stakes wins at Colonial Downs on Saturday.

Ed Orr and Susie Orr’s Boldor came from well off the pace to reach the lead a furlong from home in the $100,000 Punch Line Stakes and drew away from there to a three length victory over fellow OBS graduate Elusive Mischief (April ’17, August ’16). It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Munnings, trained by Steve Asmussen, now 5-2-1-1 with $122,367 in earnings. He turned in an Under Tack in :10 flat before he was purchased for $700,000 out of the Randy Miles consignment at the 2018 OBS April Sale. watch his under tack video

Holly and David Wilson’s Holly Hundy pressed the pace in the $100,000 Camptown Stakes, took charge a furlong out and galloped to a 3-3/4 length victory. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old daughter of Yes It’s True, consigned to the 2018 OBS April Sale by de Meric Sales, Agent, and sold for $180,000 after working a quarter in :21 flat at the Under Tack Show. Dare To Dream Stable LLC’s Embolden is two for three and a stakes winner after his 3-3/4 length wire to wire score in the $100,000 Jamestown Stakes. The 2-year-old colt by The Factor was sold for $95,000 by Gene Recio, Agent, at the 2019 OBS April Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 2/5 at the Under Tack Show. Julian De Mora, Jr. and JN Racing Stables’ First Deal stalked the early lead in Monmouth’s $71,500 Decathlon Stakes on Sunday, took over turning for home and eased away late to a 2-1/4 length victory. That’s two straight wins for the 3-year-old Florida-bred colt by Turbo Compressor, consigned by 30-30 Ranch, Agent, to the 2018 OBS June Sale, and sold for $17,000 after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. Trained by Jorge Navarro, he’s now 9-6-2-1 and has earned $173,905 to date. watch his under tack video

Super Super Stable’s Driven by Thunder led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of Gulfstream’s $60,000 James H. Kyle Stakes on Saturday, leading from the start, turning back a challenge on the turn and cruising to a 1-1/2 length victory over Galleon Mask (April ’15) with Forever Mo (April ‘18) a neck back in third. It’s the first stakes win for the 5-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Overdriven, a two-time OBS graduate, purchased out of the Summerfield consignment at the 2015 Winter Mixed sale and then sold for $65,000 by Omega Farm, Agent, at the 2016 April Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. watch his under tack video

Jerry Caroom’s High On Gin broke his maiden at first asking in August and returned to work on Saturday, coming from well off the pace to score by two lengths in his stakes debut in the $60,000 Happy Ticket Stakes at Louisiana downs. The 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by Fury Kapcori, a two-time OBS graduate went through the ring at the 2018 October Sale before he was sold to Mr. Caroom by GOP Racing Stable Corp., Agent, for $7,500 at the 2019 June Sale after an Under Tack Quarter in :21 2/5.
