October Sale Under Tack Show set for Sunday

The Under Tack Show for the Two Year Olds and Horses of Racing Age section of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2020 October Sale will be held Sunday, October 11th.

Hip No.’s 1 – 59 will go to the track in a single session beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The October Sale begins Tuesday, October 13th at 12 noon with the Two-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age section, cataloged as Hip No.’s 1 – 59. The Selected Yearling Sale begins immediately following the Horses of Racing Age, selling as Hip No.’s 101 – 270. The Open Yearling Sale, now cataloged as Hip No.’s 301 – 721, is set for Wednesday, October 14th and will begin at 10:30 a.m.

In addition to Under Tack Videos, Walking Videos and conformation photos may be available for the entire catalog.

The workouts will be recorded and can be viewed on the website, in their entirety or by individual hip number. They will also be available in the Video Room as well as several kiosks in the breezeway and covered walking ring. Visitors to Ocala will find the videos available for in-room viewing at The Courtyard by Marriott, Holiday Inn & Suites, Homewood Suites, Hampton Inn & Suites, Residence Inn and the Ocala Hilton, plus lounge viewing is available at the Hilton. Under Tack Show results are posted on the OBS website.

The Under Tack Show and Sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the DRF, TDN, BloodHorse and Pastthewire websites.

OBS will again offer Online Bidding during the October Sale. Buyers will be able to go to the OBS website and register to gain bidding approval, then access the OBS Bidding Screen with their credentials. The online catalog’s main page contains a link to a sortable master index providing searchable pedigree and consignor information as well as access to pedigree updates occurring since the catalog was printed.

Miss Marissa wins Pimlico’s Black-Eyed-Susan Stakes

Alfonso Cammarota’s 2018 OBS Selected Yearling Sale graduate Miss Marissa sat just off the lead in Saturday’s $250,000 Black-Eyed-Susan Stakes (G2) at Pimlico, took command leaving the turn, opened daylight in the stretch and held off a late charge to score by a neck. It’s the first stakes victory for the 3-year-old filly by He’s Had Enough, purchased for $11,000 out of the Woodford Thoroughbreds consignment. Gaining Ground Racing LLC’s Factor This went right to the front in Pimlico’s $250,000 Dinner Party Stakes (G2) on Saturday and never looked back en route to a 2-3/4 length victory. That’s four graded stakes wins for the 5-year-old gelding by The Factor, who turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 prior to being purchased for $11,000 out of the Niall Brennan Stables consignment at the 2017 OBS April Sale. Trained by Brad Cox, he’s now 32-12-4-4 and went over the million dollar earnings mark at $1,242,780. watch his under tack video

Koichi Nishikawa’s Cafe Pharoah made it four wins in five trips to the post, turning in a strong late run to take Saturday’s $653,505 Sirius Stakes (G3) by three quarters of a length at Chukyo RaceCourse in Japan. He was consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, to the 2019 OBS March Sale, and sold for $475,000 to Narvick International, Agent, after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5. Trained by Noriyuki Hori, he’s now 5-4-0-0 and has earned $917,019 USD to date. watch his under tack video    watch a video of the race

Kaleem Shah, Inc.’s unbeaten Madone is three for three with two stakes wins after closing from far off the pace and taking Santa Anita’s $102,000 Surfer Girl Stakes by a neck on Sunday. Trained by Simon Callaghan, she has earned $141,300 to date. She turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 before she was purchased for $125,000 out of the Kirkwood Stables consignment at the 2020 OBS March Sale by K S I, Ben McElroy, Agent. watch her under tack video

Paradise Farms Corp., David Staudacher, John Piehowicz, Angela Carlesimo and Michael J. Maker’s Catman picked a good spot to break his maiden, prompting the pace in Saturday’s $150,000 Laurel Futurity at Pimlico, taking over a furlong from home and holding off a late run to win by a nose. Trained by Mike Maker, the 2-year-old colt by Kitten’s Joy is now 3-1-1-0 and has $108,432 in earnings. Consigned to the 2020 OBS March Sale by Wavertree Stables, Inc. LNJ Foxwoods’ Boardroom scored her first stakes win in the $100,000 Duchess Stakes on Saturday at Woodbine. Rallying from well off the pace, the 3-year-old daughter of Commissioner grabbed the lead at the eighth pole and went on to score by a length. Now 4-3-0-1 for trainer Josie Carroll, she has earned $114,484 to date.  Consigned to the 2019 OBS April Sale by Q Bar J Thoroughbreds LLC, she was sold to Solis / Litt for $475,000 after speeding an Under Tack quarter in :20 1/5. watch her under tack video

D.J. Stable LLC & Empire Racing Club’s Proven Strategies picked up his first stakes victory in Saturday’s $102,400 Toronto Cup Stakes at Woodbine, taking the lead for good going into the turn and staying there to the wire, cruising home by a length and three quarters. The 3-year-old Florida-bred colt by Sky Mesa was consigned to the 2019 OBS April Sale by Hoppel’s Horse & Cattle Co., Inc., Agent, and went through the ring after an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5. Unbeaten Yaupon wins Pimlico’s Chick Lang Stakes

William & Corinne Heiligbrodt’s Yaupon, slammed from both sides at the start of Thursday’s $200,000 Chick Lang Stakes (G3) at Pimlico, took the lead quickly, set the pace, then drew away in the stretch to score by four lengths. Fellow OBS graduate Relentless Dancer (April ’19) checked in third. That’s two straight graded stakes wins for the unbeaten 3-year-old colt by Uncle Mo, trained by Steve Asmussen, now four for four with earnings of $288,264. October Supplemental Catalog now online

The Supplemental Catalog for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2020 October Sale is now available via the OBS website at obssales.com and available in printed form at the OBS sales grounds on or about Wednesday, October 7th. The two-day sale is set for Tuesday and Wednesday, October 13th and 14th.

Three two-year-olds and two Horses of Racing Age have been supplemented to the two-day sale, and will sell as Hip No.’s 55 – 59. Twenty-seven Selected Yearling have been supplemented and will sell as Hip No.’s 243 – 269. Twenty-eight horses have been added to the Open Yearling Sale, selling as Hip No.’s 694 – 721.

Real Grace captures the Canadian Derby

Shelly Brown, Jean McEwan, Bette Holtman and Bernell B. Rhone’s Real Grace took the lead at the start of Sunday’s $100,000 Canadian Derby (G3) at Century Mile, turned back a challenge on the turn, then held off a late charge by fellow OBS graduate Something Natural (March ’19) and scored by a neck. It’s the second stakes win for the 3-year-old gelding by Mineshaft, trained by Shelly Brown, now 8-2-3-0 with $68,080 in earnings. Consigned to the 2020 OBS Winter Mixed Sale by Woodard Sales, Agent, he was sold for $38,000 after breezing three eighths in :33 3/5. watch his under tack video

Phoenix Thoroughbreds LTD’s Confessing tried stakes company for the first time in the $60,000 Ricks Memorial Stakes on Sunday at Remington Park. The 4-year-old daughter of Scat Daddy relaxed off the pace in the early going, rallied to reach contention on the turn and kept coming to get up late by three quarters of a length. After turning in an Under Tack eighth in :9 4/5, she was purchased for $875,000 out of the Hartley/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2018 OBS March Sale. OBS grads post a pair of graded stakes wins on Sunday at Santa Anita

OBS graduates scored a graded stakes doubleheader at Santa Anita on Sunday after a 1-2-3 sweep of the My Dear Girl at Gulfstream on Saturday.

Gary Barber, Tom Kagele and Madaket Stables LLC’s C Z Rocket pressed the pace in the $200,000 Santa Anita Sprint Championship (G2), wore down the leader in the lane and was best by a head. Fellow OBS graduate Collusion Illusion (April ’19) checked in third. That’s two straight graded stakes wins for the 6-year-old Florida-bred son of City Zip, trained by Peter Miller, now 22-9-1-2 with $551,641 in earnings. At the 2016 June Sale, he turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 before he was purchased out of the Stephens Thoroughbred consignment for a then sale record $800,000. watch his under tack video

Flawless Racing, Masino Racing Stable. Brian Flanagan and Michael Jarvis’ Cupid’s Claws stepped into stakes company for the first time in the $101,000 Tokyo City Cup Stakes (G3), and the 5-year-old gelded son of Kitten’s Joy rallied on the turn, took command in the stretch and drew off to a 7-1/4 length victory. Consigned by Tom McCrocklin, Agent, to the 2017 April Sale, he breezed a quarter in :21 3/5 before he was sold for $90,000. Daniel Pita’s Princess Secret led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of Saturday’s $400,000 FTBOA Florida Sire My Dear Girl Stakes at Gulfstream, charging wide on the turn, collaring frontrunning fellow OBS graduate Restofthestory (April ’20) turning for home, battling her the length of the stretch and scoring by a neck. Big Rings (June ’20) settled for third. It’s the second straight stakes win for the 2-year-old Florida-bred filly by Khozan, consigned by Journeyman Bloodstock Services, Inc. (Brent & Crystal Fernung), Agent, to the 2019 October Selected Yearling Sale and sold to Manuel Pita for $30,000. West Point Thoroughbreds and Marvin Delfiner’s Jaxon Taveler was unveiled by trainer Steve Asmussen on Friday at Pimlico in a six furlong maiden special weight dash. The 2-year-old colt by Munnings broke on top, set the pace, was turned loose after turning for home and galloped to a ten length victory. Zedan Racing Stables Inc.’s unbeaten Princess Noor continued her march toward the Breeders’ Cup and a division title with an effortless 8-1/4 length victory in the $200,000 Chandelier Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita. After saving ground just off the pace, she rolled past the leaders on the turn, took command at the head of the stretch and cruised home under a hand ride. Fellow OBS graduates Varda (April ’20) and Miss Costa Rica (March ’20) checked in second and third. The 2-year-old daughter of Not This Time, trained by Bob Baffert, is now three for three with two graded stakes wins and earnings of $303,000. Starship Jubilee beats the boys in the Woodbine Mile

Blue Heaven Farm’s OBS October Sale catalog cover girl Starship Jubilee punched her ticket to the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) with a victory over the boys in Saturday’s $1,000,000 Woodbine Mile Stakes (G1). Sitting just off the pace in the early going, she moved to contention on the turn, took command a furlong from home and scored by a length under a hand ride. It’s the second grade one win for Canada’s reigning Horse of the Year, five for six this year including four graded stakes wins. Trained by Kevin Attard, she has posted nine graded stakes victories, compiled a 38-19-5-3 career record and earned $2,093,069 to date. The 7-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Indy Wind is a two time OBS graduate, sold by The Acorn at the 2014 August Yearling Sale then consigned by Halcyon Hammock Farm to the 2015 April Sale where she went through the ring after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. watch her under tack video

C. DeMizio and Mary E. Biamonte’s Dirty Dangle is two for two and a stakes winner after taking Saturday’s $135,810 Woodbine Cares Stakes. She saved ground early, came out for the drive, blew past the leaders inside the furlong marker and won going away by a length and a quarter. The 2-year-old Not This Time filly worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 before she was sold for $25,000 by J R Racing Stables, Agent for Brayhan Cruz, at the 2020 OBS March Sale. Lighthouse, Miss J McKay one-two in Kentucky Downs’ Music City Stakes

LNJ Foxwoods’ Lighthouse sat just off the pace in Kentucky Downs’ $360,385 Music City Stakes on Tuesday, came out for the drive, ran by the leaders a furlong from home and held off a late run by fellow OBS graduate Miss J McKay (April ’19) to score by a length and a half. It’s the first stakes win for the graded stakes placed 3-year-old daughter of Mizzen Mast, trained by Simon Callaghan, now 7-3-2-1 with earnings of $335,171. Anothertwistafate takes the Longacre Mile

Peter Redekop‘s  Anothertwistafate sat just off the pace early in Emerald Downs’ $100,000 Longacres Mile Handicap (G3) on Thursday, circled horses to take the lead a quarter mile out and drew away down the stretch to a 4-1/2 length score. It’s the first graded stakes win for the 4-year-old colt by Scat Daddy, now 8-4-2-0 for trainer Blaine Wright, with earnings of $358,505. Daniel Investment Holdings’ Mizzen Beau took the lead at the start of Saturday’s $250,000 Bison City Stakes at Woodbine and never looked back, opening a big lead a furlong from home and coasting to victory by 4-3/4 lengths. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old daughter of Mizzen Mast, who breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 before she was sold by Grassroots Training & Sales LLC to Cardinal Hill, Agent for Patrick Daniel, for $100,000.
