J. Paul Reddam’s I’ll Have Another scored his first stakes win in his first start at three on Saturday, going wire to wire en route to a three quarter length victory in the $200, 000 Robert B. Lewis Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita. Second last summer in the Best Pal Stakes (G2) at Del Mar, the Flower Alley colt is now 4-2-1-0 with earnings of $184,000. Kathleen Amaya & Raffaele’s Musical Flair came from off the early pace in the $60, 000 Needles Stakes on the turf at Gulfstream on Saturday, closing well in the final eighth to win by three quarters of a length. It’s the second stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Songandaprayer, sold for $47,000 by Kings Equine, Agent, at the 2011 OBS March Sale. Her five stakes wins in 2011 culminated in a 1-1/2 length victory in the $909, 000 Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1). The 5-year-old Florida-bred filly by Concorde’s Tune has compiled a 32-9-5-7 and earnings of $1, 217,850. She was sold for $22,000 by breeder Ocala Stud at the 2009 OBS April Sale.
Hip No. 328, a yearling colt by Congrats consigned by Stroud’s Lane Farm LLC, went to Bortolazzo Stable, LLC for $90,000 to top the Open session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2012 Winter Mixed Sale. The chestnut colt is out of Summer School, by Royal Academy, a half sister to graded stakes winner Mud Route.
Hip No. 145, Lady Clara, a 3-year-old stakes placed daughter of Hard Spun, went to Hard Acre Farm for $240,000 to top the Horses of Racing Age section of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2012 Winter Mixed Sale. Consigned by Gayle Woods, Agent, the dark bay or brown filly, third in the recent Busanda Stakes at Aqueduct, is out of stakes winner Victorica, by Exbourne, and is a half sister to stakes winner King Hasperus.
Hip No. 253, Red Roy, a 3-year-old Van Nistelrooy filly consigned by Paul Sharp, Agent, worked three eighths in :32 flat to post the fastest work of the day at the Under Tack Show for the Horses of Racing Age section of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2012 Winter Mixed Sale. The gray or roan filly, a half sister to stakes placed Run Red Run, is out of stakes placed Red Melody, by Runaway Groom.
The Under Tack Show for the new Horses of Racing Age section of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2012 Winter Mixed Sale is set for Monday, January 16th at 10:00 a.m. It’s a first for the Winter Mixed Sale, which begins a two day run on Tuesday.
