Hip No. 145, Lady Clara, a 3-year-old stakes placed daughter of Hard Spun, went to Hard Acre Farm for $240,000 to top the Horses of Racing Age section of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2012 Winter Mixed Sale. Consigned by Gayle Woods, Agent, the dark bay or brown filly, third in the recent Busanda Stakes at Aqueduct, is out of stakes winner Victorica, by Exbourne, and is a half sister to stakes winner King Hasperus.
Hip No. 128, Hard as Steel, a colt by Hard Spun consigned by W.D. North Thoroughbreds, Agent, went to Patrice Miller, EQB Inc., Agent, for $85,000. The dark bay or brown unraced 3-year-old colt, whose half in :45 flat was the fastest work at the distance at Monday’s Under Tack Show, is out of stakes winner Swift Alliance, by Afleet, and is a half brother to graded stakes winner Sky Alliance.
For the Horses of Racing Age section, 71 horses sold for a total of $997,200, averaging $14,045 with a $6,500 median price. The buyback percentage was 28.3%.
Hip No. 37, a yearling filly by Hard Spun consigned by Montgomery Equine Center LLC, Agent, went to Kaizen Sales, Agent, for $87,000 to top the Consignor Preferred session. The bay filly is out of graded stakes placed Alarming Prospect, by Darn That Alarm, and is a half sister to graded stakes winner French Park.
Hip No. 62, a colt by Congrats consigned by Perrone Sales, Ltd., Agent, was sold to Tristan de Meric for $67,000. The chestnut colt, a half brother to stakes winner Imperial Czar, is out of Evil Eyed Czarina, by Carson City.
The session’s highest priced broodmare was Hip No. 53, Above It, a 5-year-old daughter of Holy Bull sold to WinStar for $60,000. The dark bay or brown mare, in foal to Scat Daddy, is out of Dame Avie, by Lord Gaylord, and is a half sister to graded stakes winner Primitive Hall.
For the Consignor Preferred session, 64 horses grossed $1,159,000 compared with 117 horses bringing a total of $1,458,400 at the corresponding session in 2011. The average price was $18,109, up 45.3% from $12,465 a year ago, while the median price was $15,000, up 66% from $9,000 in 2011. The buyback percentage was 36%; it was 28.2% last year.
