The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2015 August Yearling Sale begins Tuesday, August 25^th. There are 811 yearlings cataloged for the three-day sale, which gets underway at 11 a.m. with 217 horses offered in the Selected session. The Sale continues with two Open sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, August 26^th and 27^th.  Hip No.’s 219-516 will be sold Wednesday; Hip No.’s 517- 813 sell on Thursday. Both Open sessions also start at 11 a.m.

Conformation photographs of Selected yearlings may be viewed through the Sortable Master Index on the OBS website at obssales.com.  The Master Index also includes links to pedigree updates via equineline.com. Major recent updates have been compiled in a press release on the website: obssales.com/2015/08/essential-august-updates/. The most current update came Saturday when OBS June graduate Big John B successfully defended his title in the Del Mar Handicap (G2). His half sister by Broken Vow, Hip No. 191, consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent for BryLyn Farm, sells Tuesday in the OBS Selected Yearling Sale. 

The sale will be streamed live on the OBS, Blood-Horse and DRF websites. The website now includes a Spanish language section which can be accessed from the home page. The section’s index links to information for consignors and buyers, as well as press releases and important general information.

Twenty-two August graduates have gone over the million dollar mark in earnings with several active graded stakes performers on pace to join that club, a roster of graded stakes winners including Conquest Two Step, Distinctiv Passion, El Kabeir, Ekati’s Phaeton, Mr. Jordan and Quality Rocks. Since the beginning of 2014, 13 August Sale graduates have racked up 18 graded stakes wins, with 31 horses on the board in 49 graded races. During this period, August grads accounted for 75 stakes wins, and were on the board in 212 stakes. 

The August class of 2014 is off and running. Twenty-four precocious youngsters are already winners paced by Dubb, Imperio, Alexander and Bethlehem Stables’ Magna Light. The son of OBS grad Magna Graduate scored at first asking at Belmont and then was much the best in Saratoga’s Sanford Stakes (G3), but was disqualified and placed third after an erratic run through the stretch.

The sale features a strong sire roster, with yearlings by stallions currently at the top of the general sire list. Bernardini, City Zip, Ghostzapper, Harlan’s Holiday, Kitten’s Joy, Malibu Moon, Pioneerof the Nile, Speightstown and Wildcat Heir have OBS August offspring, along with proven stallions Arch, Artie Schiller, Awesome Again, Awesome of Course, Blame, Broken Vow, City Zip, Congrats, Exchange Rate, First Samurai, High Cotton, Into Mischief, Kantharos, Line of David, Lookin At Lucky, Macho Uno, Majesticperfection, Mineshaft, Mizzen Mast, More Than Ready, Munnings, Northern Afleet, Quality Road, Tale of the Cat, Warrior’s Reward, With Distinction and Yes It’s True.

OBS August is always a showcase for newcomers to the stallion ranks, and the 2015 sale features the offspring of first crop sires Aikenite, Astrology, Biondetti, Bodemeister, Caleb’s Posse, Dialed In, Gemologist, Hansen, Jersey Town, Maclean’s Music, Mission Impazible, Overdriven, Shackleford, Stay Thirsty, Tapizar, The Factor and Union Rags.

Promising second crop sires Adios Charlie, American Lion, Archarcharch, Big Drama, Custom for Carlos, Dublin, First Dude, Gio Ponti, Gone Astray, Ice Box, J P’s Gusto, Telling, Tizway, Trappe Shot, Twirling Candy and Uncle Mo are all well represented as well.

The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company announced today that it will institute the use of a Repository at all its auctions beginning with the 2016 Winter Mixed Sale in January. The Repository will replace the bone warranty which remains in effect for the upcoming OBS Yearling and Fall Mixed Sales.

The use of the Repository will be voluntary for consignors and is intended to provide buyers with more information upon which to base their purchases.

“The evolution of the marketplace has made the use of a repository a mainstay at thoroughbred sales, ” said OBS director of sales Tod Wojciechowski. “Anything we can do to instill confidence in the auction process is positive. We anticipate widespread participation by both buyers and sellers.”

Major consignor and OBS board member Eddie Woods was pleased with the decision. “This move puts us in line with the other major thoroughbred auction houses in the country, ’ he said.  “The repository will enhance transparency, and more reliable information prior to the auction will lead to greater satisfaction after the horse goes through the ring.”

The August Yearling Sale begins on Tuesday, August 25^th at 11:00 a.m. The catalog is available on the OBS website at obssales.com. Conformation photos of the Selected yearlings may be viewed via the Sortable Master Index. Current information about OBS sales, consignors and graduates is now also available via social media sites Facebook and Twitter. A link on the OBS homepage directs users to either site.

The Selected Sale gets underway on Tuesday, August 25^th at 11:00 a.m. The Open Yearling Sale follows on Wednesday and Thursday, August 26^th and 27^th  with both sessions also beginning at 11:00 a.m. All three session will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the DRF and BloodHorse websites.

Here are some of the highlights of the pedigree updates through Wednesday, August 19^th.

Hip No. 22, a Big Drama colt out of Five Star Annie, by Five Star Day, consigned by Silver Oaks Farm, became a half brother to a stakes winner on August 8^th when 3-year-old dual OBS graduate Cat Trap (April, October) ran off to a 9-1/4 length victory in the Aspen Cup Stakes at Ruidoso Downs.

Hip No. 53, consigned by Oakleaf Farm (Liz & Norma Wilson), is a colt by In Summation. His full brother, two-time OBS graduate Summation Time (April, August) was second in the Troy Stakes at Saratoga on August 22nd.  

Hip No. 147, a colt by Majesticperfection out of Stately Kitty, by Honour and Glory consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, added a stakes placed half brother to his pedigree on July 5th when 5-year-old Zane, by Yes It’s True, was third on July 5th in the Miesque’s Approval Stakes at Gulfstream. 

Consigned by Stuart Morris, Agent, Hip No. 151, by Northern Afleet, is the second foal out of Summer Rules, by Perfect Soul. Her 2-year-old half brother by Munnings, OBS April graduate Never Gone South, is two for two and a stakes winner, taking the Strike Your Colors Stakes at Delaware Park in his second start.

OBS June graduate Big John B, a 6-year-old son of Hard Spun, took Del Mar’s Cougar II Handicap (G3) on July 24^th  and  successfully defended his title in the Del Mar Handicap (G2) on August 22nd. He now has 14 wins to his credit, he has earned over $700,000.  He’s out of Baldomera, by Doneraile Court, and his half sister by Broken Vow is Hip No. 191, consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent for BryLyn Farm.

Hip No. 233, consigned by Twin Stars Equine LLC, Agent, is a colt by Awesome of Course out of Dewars Rocks, by Big Mukora. His 2-year-old full brother, OBS October graduate Patrick Rocks, was third to Never Gone South in the Strike Your Colors at Delaware and third in the Bashford Manor (G3) at Churchill in June. 

Hip No. 238 is a filly by Exclusive Quality out of Dixie Dudette, by Dixie Union consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent. Her pedigree got a grade one update on August 1^st when Dixie Dudette’s graded stakes winning half sister, Yahilwa, was second in the Clement L. Hirsch Stakes (G1) at Del Mar.

Hip No. 298, Snuggle Me In, became a half brother to a stakes horse on July 29^th when his 2-year-old half sister by Value Plus, Ms. Scarlet Fever, was second in the White Clay Creek Stakes at Delaware. Consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, he’s by Kantharos out of Frontier Franny, by Lucky Lionel.

Hip No. 351, a filly by Temple City out of stakes placed Hopi, by Cox’s Ridge consigned by Southern Cypress Stable LLC, Agent, has a newly minted stakes winning half brother in OBS April grad Solomon Bay, by Leroidesanimaux (BRZ)), winner of the Robert Dupret Derby at Santa Rosa on August 8^th.

Hip No. 656, a daughter of U S Ranger out of Untamed Passion, by Pulpit is consigned by Craig L. Wheeler, Agent. She’s a half sister to graded stakes placed OBS June graduate Cage Fighter, who added a third place finish in Monmouth’s Oceanport Stakes (G3) on August 2^nd to his second in Pimlico’s Dixie Stakes (G2) in May, boosting his bankroll over $228,000. 

Hip No. 733, Get a Valentine, picked up a pair of pedigree upgrades since the catalog went to press when Tiz My Valentine, his 3-year-old half brother by Tizdejavu, was third in two stakes at Delaware, the  Stanton Stakes in June followed by the Kent Stakes (G3) in July. Consigned by Tonya Jurgens, Agent, he’s by Get Stormy out of B. A. Valentine, by Apalachee.

Hip No. 806, consigned by Southern Cypress Stable LLC, Agent, is a filly by Kantharos out of Countess Proud, by Proud Citizen. She added a touch of black type to her pedigree on August 16^th when  her 2-year-old half sister by High Cotton, two time OBS graduate Tight Weave (April, October), was second in the Colleen Stakes at Monmouth.
