The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company has released dates for the 2016 Sales year. The Winter Mixed Sale and its Horses of Racing Age Section kicks off the year on Wednesday and Thursday, January 27th and 28th preceded by an optional Under Tack Show on Monday January 25th.
The 27th annual OBS Day of Champions race card is set for Tuesday, January 26th.
The March Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training is set for Tuesday and Wednesday March 15th and 16th. The March Sale’s Under Tack Show will be held in three sessions, from Wednesday, March 9th through Friday, March 11th.
Next on the calendar is the four-day Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training, scheduled for Tuesday through Friday, April 19th – 22nd. The Under Tack Show will again be spread over six sessions, from Monday, April 11th through Saturday, April 16th.
The June Two-Year-Olds & Horses of Racing Age Sale is set for Tuesday, June 14th through Friday, June 17th. Its Under Tack Show begins Sunday, June 5th and continues through Friday, June 10th.

The catalog for the Horses of Racing Age Section of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2015 Fall Mixed Sale is now available on the OBS website at http://obssales.com. It is included in the searchable and sortable master index, which provides links to past performances, under tack videos, pedigree and consignor information as well as pedigree updates occurring since the catalog was printed.

There are 97 horses cataloged in the Racing Age section, which begins with Hip No. 465 immediately following the Open session of the Fall Mixed Sale. A printed catalog for this section will be available at the sales grounds. The optional Under Tack Show is scheduled for Monday, October 12th at 10:00 a.m. OBS is still accepting supplementary entries for the Racing Age Section.
The Fall Mixed Sale begins with the Consignor Preferred session on Tuesday, October 13th with Hip Numbers 1- 204. Hip Numbers 205 – 464, cataloged in the Open Session, will be offered on Wednesday, October 14th. Both sessions begin at 10:30 a.m.
The Sale and Under Tack Show will be streamed live via the OBS, Blood-Horse and DRF websites.
The Racing Age section includes a number of horses with black type credentials, including Hip No. 553, the lightly raced 3-year-old stakes winning filly Pyrite Blue Magna, winner of two of three starts at two and her only race this year. In addition, several 2-year-olds in the sale were winners in Maiden Special Weight company in their only trips to the post. Hip No. 494, Final Encore, a colt by Scat Daddy, was a winner at Gulfstream on September 20th. Pyrite Tonight, Hip No. 512, a filly by In Summation, was a winner in her only start in August and Hip No. 520, Point of No Return, a daughter of Concord Point, won at first asking at Churchill last spring.
The Racing Age Section also features unraced 2-year-olds sired by an impressive group of stallions that includes Awesome Again, Bellamy Road, Congrats, First Dude, Harlan’s Holiday, Kantharos, Lonhro (AUS), Lookin At Lucky, Majesticperfection, Malibu Moon, Mineshaft, Unbridled’s Song and leading first crop sire Uncle Mo.
Treadway Racing Stable’s Melodic jumped from a maiden win at first asking into Belmont’s $150, 000 Joseph A. Gimma Stakes on Sunday, and the 2-year-old daughter of Tale of the Cat took the lead a furlong from home and drew away to a three length victory, with fellow OBS graduate Surprise Cameo (April ’15) checking in third. After breezing an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show prior to the 2015 OBS April Sale, she was sold by Off The Hook, Agent, for $150,000. Morris Bailey’s Full Salute picked up his first stakes win in the $145, 500 Hall of Fame Stakes at Parx on Saturday, taking the lead turning for home and then holding off a late run by fellow OBS graduate Discreet Lover (August ’14), scoring by a length. Trained by Eddie Plesa, Jr., he’s now 5-2-3-0 and has earned $149,120 to date. Champion Racing Stable’s Haveyougoneaway turned in a strong move to take command of Sunday’s $50,000 Flashy Lady Stakes at Remington Park after straightening away in the lane and the drew off to a 4-1/4 length victory. The 3-year-old daughter of Private Vow took the lead after turning for home then drew off in the stretch to a five length victory. Consigned by Robert Brewer to the 2014 OBS April Sale, she was sold to Nick Hines, Agent, for $90,000 after turning in an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. Highland Yard LLC’s Amaranth went to the front at the start of the $65,000 Asparagus Stakes on Saturday at Stockton and was never headed en route to a 3-1/2 length victory. Jack Hendricks and Roger Justice’s East Hall continued his march toward the million dollar mark in the $75,000 Sensitive Prince Stakes at Gulfstream on Saturday, rallying from off the pace, taking command in the upper stretch and easing away to a 1-3/4 length victory over fellow OBS graduate Lynx (April ’13). It’s the fourth stakes win for 4-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Graeme Hall, trained by Bill Kaplan, now 27-6-4-4 with earnings of $867,665. The winner of the Ohio Derby and Indiana Derby (G2) is a two time OBS graduate. He was sold by Summerfield, Agent, at the 2012 August Sale and then worked an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5 before being purchased by trainer Bill Kaplan for $55,000 on behalf of Hendricks and Justice out of the Southern Chase Farm, Inc. Matthew Schera’s Cage Fighter picked up his first stakes win on Saturday, taking over in the stretch of the $194,000 PTHA President’s Cup Stakes and scoring by a length and three quarters. A 5-year-old graded stakes placed Florida-bred son of Closing Argument, he sped an Under Tack quarter in :21 3/5 before being sold by Craig Wheeler, Agent for $50,000 at the 2012 OBS June Sale. Lynne Martin-Boutte’s Formal Summation took the lead at the start of Saturday’s $75,000 Laurel Futurity and never looked back, opening up a long lead in the stretch and coasting home a 2-3/4 length winner.
