Record City Zip colt tops June Sale’s final session

Hip No. 926, a bay colt by City Zip consigned by Stephens Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, went to Frank Fletcher Racing Operations for a sale record $800,000 to top the fourth and final session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2016 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age. Out of graded stakes placed Successful Sarah, by Successful Appeal, his quarter in :21 1/5 was co-fastest at the distance at Thursday’s Under Tack session.

The price surpassed the previous mark of $680,000 set last year for a colt by Candy Ride (ARG).

Christina R. Jelm, Agent, paid $375,000 for Hip No. 936, a son of Distorted Humor consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent. The bay colt, a half brother to Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Super Saver out of Supercharger, by A.P. Indy, turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5.

Hip No. 1109, a son of Fastnet Rock consigned by Tom McCrocklin, Agent, was sold to Jerry & Ronald Frankel for $360,000. The bay colt, who worked an Under Tack quarter in :21 flat, is out of Alone (IRE), by Galileo, a full sister to grade one stakes winner Lush Lashes.

Hip No. 940, a son of Uncle Mo consigned by Thoroughbred Champions Training Center LLC, was sold to Breeze Easy LLC for $240,000. The bay colt, out of Surrender, by Stormy Atlantic, a daughter of stakes placed Beaucette, breezed a quarter in :21 1/5 on Thursday.

Mr. & Mrs. J. S. Moss paid $230,000 for Hip No. 1133, a dark bay or brown colt by Harlan’s Holiday consigned by McKathan Bros., Agent. Out of Anna Sun, by Trippi, a full sister to stakes winner Dark Thunder, he worked a quarter in :21 1/5 at the Under Tack Show.

St. Elias Stable & West Point Thoroughbreds, Inc. went to $200,000 for Hip No. 952, a son of Aikenite whose eighth in :10 flat was co fastest at the distance on Thursday. The dark bay or brown colt, consigned by Crupi’s New Castle Farm, Agent, is out of Switcheroo, by Exchange Rate, a half sister to graded stakes winner I Spent It.

For the session, 145 youngsters sold for a total of $5,237,000, compared with 131 two-year-olds grossing $5,417,100 at the corresponding session last year. The average price was $36,117, compared with $41.352 a year ago while the median price was $13,000 compared with $15,000 in 2015. The buyback percentage was 26%; it was 26.8% in 2015. Five horses sold for $200,000 or more compared with three a year ago.

Sixteen Horses of Racing Age grossed $146,500, compared to 13 bringing $568,000 a year ago. The average was $9,156 compared to $43,692 in 2015 while the median was $4,250; it was $12,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 15.8% against 38.1% last year.

For the entire sale, 621 two-year-olds sold for $18,427,900 compared with last year’s sale record $23,608,500. The average was $29,675 compared with 2015’s sale record $39,612, while the median price was $13,000 compared with $18,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 24%; it was 24.8% a year ago.

Next on the OBS agenda is the Selected Sale of Yearlings set for August 23^rd, followed by the Open Sale of Yearlings on August 24^th – 25^th.

Into Mischief filly tops June Sale’s third session

Hip No. 866, a daughter of Into Mischief consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, was sold for $250,000 to John P. Fort to top session three of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2016 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age. The bay filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of Simple Symphony, by Consolidator, a half sister to stakes winner Doc Calls Her Kate.

Three horses sold for $190,000.

Hip No. 662, a son of Bellamy Road consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, went to Gary Young, Agent. The dark bay or brown colt, who worked a quarter in :21 4/5 at the Under Tack Show, is a full brother to graded stakes winner Position Limit out of Payable On Demand, by Out of Place.

Susan Moulton purchased Hip No. 761, a chestnut colt by Tapit consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent. Out of grade one stakes winner River’s Prayer, by Devon Lane, he turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5.

Hip No. 840, a bay filly by Hard Spun consigned by Bobby Dodd, Agent, was sold to Mercedes Stables LLC. A half sister to graded stakes placed stakes winner Amaranth out of stakes winner Shedoesrock, she breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat, co-fastest at the distance at Wednesday’s Under Tack session.

Hip No. 765, Glencairn, a son of Candy Ride (ARG) who breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 3/5, was sold to William Werner for $155,000. Consigned by Hidden Brook, Agent, the chestnut colt is out of stakes winner Roan Inish, by Elusive Quality, a half sister to graded stakes placed In Equality.

Bluewater Sales, Agent, paid 140,000 for Hip No. 660, a dark bay or brown filly by Trappe Shot consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent. The half sister to stakes winner Bebhinn, who also worked in :10 flat on Wednesday, is out of Passion Overflow, by Hennessy, a half sister to grade one stakes placed stakes winner Ocean Ridge.

Hip No. 842, a daughter of Giant’s Causeway consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, went to Rockbridge Bloodstock for $115,000. The gray or roan filly, who breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5, is out of stakes placed Sheraton Park, by Cozzene, a half sister to graded stakes winner Gemswick Park.

For the session, 164 horses grossed $4,096,700, compared with 156 selling for a total of $6,702,500 at last year’s third session. The average was $24,980 compared with $42,965 in 2015 while the median price was $12,000 compared to $18,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 20.8%; it was 23.5% last year.

The June Sale concludes on Friday beginning at 10:30 a.m. Hip No.’s 901 – 1226 will be offered, including the supplemental entries and Horses of Racing Age.

Hip No. 316, Black Canary, a bay filly by War Front consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent, went to Justin Casse, Agent, for $425,000 to top the second session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2016 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age. A half sister to stakes placed Joe Tess out of graded stakes placed Forty Moves, by Gold Fever, she breezed an eighth in :10 flat at the Monday session of the Under Tack Show.

Nick J. Hines, Agent, paid $370,000 for Hip No. 484, a bay colt by Candy Ride (ARG) consigned by Bobby Dodd, Agent. Out of La Maestranza, by Storm Cat, a daughter of grade one winner Cash Run and full sister to stakes winner Great War Eagle, his eighth in :10 flat was co-fastest at the distance at Tuesday’s Under Tack session.

Hip No. 476, Letsgoidaho, a bay colt by Uncle Mo who breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 4/5, was sold to Michel Everett for $350,000. Consigned by Classic Bloodstock LLC, Agent, he’s out of Lady Mocha, by Tale of the Cat, a full sister to graded stakes placed stakes winner Resplendency.

Charles J. Cella went to $260,000 for Hip No. 310, a bay colt by Shackleford out of Flashy Future, by Bertrando, a full sister to grade one stakes placed stakes winner Lacquaria. Consigned by RiceHorse Stables, Agent for Emerald Sales LLC, he turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat.

Hip No. 413, a son of Quality Road consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, was sold for $160,000 to Alistair Roden Bloodstock. The bay colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of champion Inish Glora, by Regal Classic, and is a half sister to stakes winner Roan Inish as well as a full sister to graded stakes placed In Equality.

Gary Young, Agent, paid $130,000 for Hip No. 404, a chestnut colt by Candy Ride who worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. Consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, he’s out of graded stakes placed stakes winner Humble Janet, by Humble Eleven.

Gary Young also went to $120,000 for Hip No. 428, a daughter of Dialed In consigned by RiceHorse Stables, Agent for Emerald Sales LLC. The chestnut filly, who breezed a quarter in :21 3/5 at the Under Tack Show, is a half sister to stakes placed Resortes out of Iyieldtonoone, by High Yield, a daughter of graded stakes winner Miroswava (FR).

Hip No. 324, a son of Colonel John consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, was sold to Dennis O’Neill for $120,000. The bay colt is out of stakes winner Friendofthefamily, by Wild Rush, a half sister to graded stakes winner Commanche Trail.

Hip No. 306, a bay filly by Pure Prize consigned by Costanzo Sales, was purchased by E. L. R. Corp. for $105,000. A full sister to stakes placed Faerie Queene out of Firm Affair, by Colonial Affair, she worked an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show.

For the session, 146 horses sold for a total of $4,828,400, compared with 158 bringing at total of $5,931,300 at last year’s second session. The average was $33,071 compared with $37,540 in 2015 while the median price was $15,500 compared to $20,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 27.7%; it was 23.7% last year.

Stay Thirsty filly tops June Sale’s opening session

Hip No. 69, a daughter of Stay Thirsty consigned by Ocala Stud was purchased by Stanley M. Hough, Agent, for $180,000 to top the first session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2016 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age. The bay filly, who worked a quarter in :22 2/5 at Sunday’s Under Tack session, is out of stakes winner Broadway Gold, by Seeking the Gold, and is a half sister to graded stakes winners Broadway’s Alibi and Golden Lad.

Hip No.107, a daughter of The Factor consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, was sold to SAC Racing for $150,000. The bay filly, who worked an eighth in :10 1/5 at Friday’s Under Tack session, is a half sister to stakes winner Dad’s Crazy out of Charismatic Lady, by End Sweep.

Breeze Easy LLC paid $150,000 for Hip No. 204, a bay colt by Harlan’s Holiday consigned by Thoroughbred Champions Training Center LLC, whose quarter in :21 flat was the co-fastest at the distance at Monday’s Under Tack session. He’s a half brother to grade one stakes winner Marylebone, out of Desert Queen, by Wavering Monarch.

Breeze Easy LLC also paid $150,000 for Hip No. 277, Yola Humor, a bay filly by Distorted Humor consigned by Omega Farm, Agent, Out of graded stakes placed Ex Caelis, by Fusaichi Pegasus, a half sister to stakes winner Le Rossignol. She breezed and Under Tack eighth in :10 flat.

Hip No. 7, a son of Stay Thirsty consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, went to Louis Linder, Jr. for $100,000. The dark bay or brown colt, who worked an Under Tack quarter in :21 2/5, is out of Baltic Flier, by Fusaichi Pegasus, from the family of Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1) winning OBS graduate Caller One.

Little Red Feather Racing went to $100,000 for Hip No. 63, a Bodemeister filly consigned by Tom McCrocklin, Agent, who turned in an Under Tack quarter in :22 flat. Out of graded stakes placed Brief Bliss, by Navarone, the bay filly is a half sister to graded stake winner Hierro.

For the session, 135 horses grossed $3,427,000, compared with 151 selling for a total of $5,557,600 at last year’s first session. The average was $25,385 compared with $36,805 a year ago, while the median price was $15,000 compared to $18,000 in 2015. The buyback percentage was 36.6%; it was 25.6% last year.

The June Sale continues Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Hip No.’s 301 – 600 will be offered.

June Sale begins Tuesday

With 2014 graduate and catalog cover girl Celestine’s sensational victory in Saturday’s Just a Game Stakes (G1) at Belmont serving as a promotional video (watch the race), the 2016 OBS June Sale of Two Year Olds and Horses of Racing Age begins a four day run on Tuesday, June 14^th. Hip No.’s 1-300 will sell on Tuesday, Hip No.’s 301-600 sell on Wednesday, Hip No.’s 601-900 sell Thursday and Hip No.’s 901-1226 on Friday. Friday’s session includes the supplemental entries and the Racing Age horses. All four sessions begin at 10:30 a.m.

Both the main and supplemental catalogs are available online via the OBS website. A sortable master index provides searchable pedigree and consignor information as well as access to pedigree updates occurring since the catalog was printed. The main page also contains links to complete information regarding the state of the art Repository and updated Conditions of Sale, implemented in 2016.

Highlighting the Horses of Racing Age section was Hip No. 1161, Nothingbutdaylight, an unraced 3-year-old bay colt by Ready’s Image, who worked three eighths in :33 3/5 at Friday’s session. June graduate Celestine scores in Belmont’s Just a Game Stakes

With OBS June beginning this Tuesday, the sale got a boost when James A. Bryan, Jr.’s catalog cover girl Celestine took charge of Belmont’s $700,000 Just a Game Stakes (G1) turning for home and then drew off in the stretch to win by 3-3/4 lengths. The time for the mile on the turf was 1:31.63, one hundredth of a second off Elusive Quality’s 1996 track record. It’s the second straight graded stakes score for the 4-year-old daughter of Scat Daddy, trained by Bill Mott, and leaves her with a 12-6-2-1 record and earnings of $784,755. Consigned by Gayle Woods on behalf of Mr. Bryan’s Phaedrus Flights to the 2014 OBS June Sale, she breezed three eighths in :32 2/5 at the Under Tack Show, the sale’s fastest work at the distance. watch her under tack video

The individual videos can still be accessed via the sortable index at http://obssales.com/junpreview/2016/ The continuous session videos , which can be accessed on the June Sale page via https://www.obssales.com/2016/06/continuous-videos/ now feature resolution selection up to 1080p as well as selectable slow and fast motion capability. The timeline at the bottom of the videos allows the viewer to scan and view video at any portion of the session.

Controls for resolution and speed may be found in icons at the bottom right of the video screen.

A half sister to stakes winner Overvalued, she’s out of Undervalued, by Cox’s Ridge.

St. Elias Stable’s Bode’s Dream is two for two and a stakes winner after setting the pace in the $197, 000 Astoria Stakes at Belmont Park on Thursday and never looking back en route to a 2-3/4 length victory. Trained by Todd Pletcher, the 2-year-old filly by Bodemeister is the first stakes winner for her sire, and has earned $135,000 to date.
