Acapulco heading for Ascot after taking Churchill’s Unbridled Sidney Stakes

Tabor, Mrs. John Magnier and Derrick Smith’s Acapulco is headed back to Ascot after shrugging off an early challenge in Saturday’s $63, 433 Unbridled Sidney Stakes at Churchill Downs and romping to a 3-1/2 length victory. It’s the second straight win for the 3-year-old Scat Daddy filly, winner of Ascot’s Queen Mary Stakes (G2) and second against older horses in York’s Nunthorpe Stakes (G1) last summer. Arnold Zetcher LLC’s Arcature took command of the $100,845 Singletary Stakes at Santa Anita at the quarter pole, opened up daylight in mid-stretch, then held off a late run by fellow OBS graduate Tristan’s Trilogy (March ’15 ) to win by a head. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Archarcharch, purchased for $250,000 from Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, at the 2015 OBS April Sale after working in eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. Little Red Feather Racing and R/M Racing’s Bellamentary took the lead at the top of the stretch of Sunday’s $80,035 Angels Flight Stakes at Santa Anita and cruised from there to her first stakes win by 2-1/4 lengths over fellow OBS graduate Forever Darling (April ’15) Little Red Feather purchased the 3-year-old daughter of Bellamy Road for $175,000 out of the Tom McCrocklin consignment at the 2015 OBS April Sale after she turned in an Under Tack quarter in :22 flat. N.T.S Stable’s Yourdreamsormine swung wide to reach contention in Friday’s $75,000 Bull Gator Stakes at Gulfstream, hit the front inside the final furlong and drew off to a three length victory over fellow OBS graduate We’re All Set (April ’13, August ’12), later disqualified by the stewards and placed third. It’s the second stakes score for the 4-year-old Florida-bred colt by Mr. Sekiguchi, a two time OBS graduate. Consigned first by breeder Bridlewood Farm to the 2012 Fall Mixed Sale, he was purchased for $37,000 out of the All Dreams Equine consignment at the 2014 OBS June Sale after breezing three eighths in :32 4/5 at the Under Tack Show. Allan, Lovat & Pigram’s Nemoralia was a dominating winner of the Longines Irish Champions Weekend Fillies Stakes (Michael Seely Memorial Stakes) on Friday at York, taking over a quarter mile from home and rolling to a six length victory. It’s the second stakes victory for the well-traveled 3-year-old daughter of More Than Ready, who was second last fall in the Frizette (G1) on dirt at Belmont then third in Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) at Keeneland. The catalog for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2016 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age is now available via the OBS website at obssales.com. A sortable master index provides searchable pedigree and consignor information as well as access to pedigree updates occurring since the catalog was printed. The main page also contains links to complete information regarding the state of the art Repository and updated Conditions of Sale, implemented in 2016.

The iPad version of the catalog will be available beginning Wednesday, May 11^th via the equineline Sales Catalog App. The App allows users to download and view the catalog, receive updates and results, record notes, watch Under Tack videos and also provides innovative search, sort and rating capability. There are 1,154 two-year-olds and 24 older horses cataloged for the four-day sale, set for Tuesday June 14^th through Friday, June 17^th, with all sessions beginning at 10:30 a.m. Supplemental nominations are being accepted until May 25^th.

The Under Tack Show will be divided into six sessions, scheduled for Sunday, June 5^th through Friday, June 10^th, with each session beginning at 7:30 a.m. Hip No.’s 1 – 200 will breeze on Sunday, Hip No.’s 201 – 400 go on Monday, Hip No.’s 401 – 600 will work on Tuesday, Hip No.’s 601 – 800 will go on Wednesday, Hip No.’s 801 – 1000 breeze Thursday and Hip No.’s 1001 – 1182 plus any horses supplemented to the sale will go on Friday. The Under Tack Show and Sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the DRF and BloodHorse websites.

Ranlo Investments LLC’s Lady Shipman, showing no ill effects from her trip to Dubai, overwhelmed a small field in in Sunday’s $95,000 License Fee Stakes on the Belmont Park turf course, running six furlongs in 1:07 2/5 en route to a 2-3/4 length victory. It’s the eighth stakes win for the 4-year-old filly by Midshipman, consigned by Pleasant Acres Farm, Agent, to the 2014 OBS April Sale, where she sped an eighth in :9 4/5 at the Under Tack Show. Park Kwang Soon’s OBS April graduate Gamdonguibada added another chapter to her remarkable career on Sunday with a five length victory in the Busan Ilbo Cup (video), the first leg of the 2016 Korean Sprint Series. In her wake was the highly regarded Success Story, who settled for third in his return to Korea after running third to California Chrome at the Dubai World Cup Carnival. Gamdonguibada made history in 2013 when she became the first filly in twelve years to win the Grand Prix Stakes at Seoul Race Park. Still going strong at the age of seven, the daughter of Werblin is now 34-15-5-7 and has earned $2,497,365,000 (KRW) to date, the equivalent of over $2-million U.S. She was sold for $31,000 to KOID Co. P.R. Laird and Eoin Harty’s Drafted scored at first asking at Keeneland on Wednesday, becoming the first horse to come out of a 2016 two-year-old in training sale and break his maiden. The 2-year-old colt by Field Commission took command of the $50, 000 maiden special weight test at the top of the stretch and drew away from there to a 2-3/4 length victory in a track record :50.45 for 4-1/2 furlongs. A two time OBS graduate, he went through the ring at the 2015 August Sale before he was purchased for $35,000 by Eoin Harty out of the Kim Harrison consignment at the 2016 March Sale after an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. Hip No. 1214, a daughter of Quality Road consigned by Q Bar J Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, went to Linda Rice, Agent, for $775,000 to top the fourth and final session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2016 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. The dark bay or brown filly, whose quarter in :20 2/5 at Saturday’s Under Tack session was the sale’s co-fastest at the distance, is out of Over Andover, by War Chant, a half sister to graded stakes winner Called to Serve.

Baoma Corp. went to $720,000 for Hip No. 1127, a bay filly by Ghostzapper consigned by Off the Hook LLC, Agent. Out of stakes winner Mighty Eros, by Freud, her quarter in :20 2/5 at Saturday’s Under Tack session also equaled the sale’s fastest work at the distance.

Hip No. 1132, a bay colt by Stay Thirsty, consigned by Kirkwood Stables, Agent, was sold to Steven W. Young, Agent for Robert LaPenta, for $575,000. A half brother to graded stakes placed stakes winner Conquest Titan out of Miner’s Secret, by Mineshaft, he breezed a quarter in :21 1/5 at Saturday’s Under Tack session.

Hip No. 1090, a son of Majesticperfection consigned by RiceHorse Stables, Agent, was sold to Eric Fein for $450,000. The chestnut colt, whose eighth on Saturday in :9 4/5 was the session and sale’s co-fastest at the distance, is out of Magic Belle, by Gold Case, a daughter of stakes placed Magical Thinking.

Hip No. 1060, La Coronel, a dark bay or brown filly by Colonel John consigned by Winners Circle Thoroughbreds LLC, was sold for $375,000 to East – West Stable. Out of graded stakes placed Listen, by Chester House, a half sister to graded stakes winner Listen Here, she breezed a quarter in :20 4/5 on Saturday.

Hip No. 1118, a son of Bodemeister consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, who worked an Under Tack eighth on Saturday in :10 flat, went to Robert Baker & William Mack for $350,000. The bay colt is out of grade one stakes winner Meadow Breeze, by Meadowlake, a half sister to grade one stakes winner Overanalyze and current 3-year-old Majesto, second in the recent Florida Derby (G1).

Hip No. 1186, a dark bay or brown colt by Scat Daddy consigned by Scanlon Training & Sales, Agent, was sold to Gayle Van Leer, Agent, for $325,000 after turning in an eighth on Saturday in :10 flat. She’s out of Never Ever, by In Excess (IRE), a half sister to millionaire grade one stakes winner Cost of Freedom.

Alistair Roden Bloodstock went to $320,000 for Hip No. 1019, a bay colt by City Zip who breezed an eighth on Saturday in :9 4/5. Consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent for Golden Legacy Stables, he’s out of La Defense, by Wild Again, and is a half brother to stakes winner Quelle Surprise.

Hip No 1081, a bay filly by Broken Vow consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, who breezed a quarter in :20 4/5 on Saturday, went to Larry Zap, Agent for Joseph Ciaglia, Jr. for $310,000. She’s out of Lucky to Be Me, by Bernstein, a half sister to stakes winner Inhisglory.

Jay Hanley paid $300,000 for Hip No. 1153, a bay colt by Awesome Again out of graded stakes winner Moon Catcher, by Malibu Moon. Consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, he breezed a quarter on Saturday in :21 2/5.

Hip No. 1134, a bay colt by Henny Hughes consigned by Paul Sharp, Agent, was sold to Narvick International for $250,000 after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 on Saturday. He’s out of Minny’s Niece, by Quiet American, a half sister to stakes placed Doe Na Wane.

For the session, 163 two-year-olds sold for a total of $13,999,000, compared with 160 horses bringing $13,871,000 at the corresponding session last year. The average price was $85,883 compared to $86,694 in 2015 while the median was $50,000, up from $43,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 17.3%; it was 21.2% a year ago.

For the entire sale, 660 horses grossed $52,279,500, compared with 674 youngsters bringing $53,291,900 a year ago. The average price was a sale record $79,211, surpassing last year’s sale record $79,068, while the median figure was a record $47,000 bettering the $45,000 mark set in 2014 and matched last year. The buyback percentage was 22.6%; it was 22.3% a year ago.

The sale topper was Hip No. 901, a son of Broken Vow consigned by Tom McCrocklin, Agent, sold to Breeze Easy LLC for $1,200,000 on Thursday. The chestnut colt, who sped a quarter in :20 4/5 at last Friday’s Under Tack session, is out of stakes winner Haddie Be Good, by Silver Deputy, and a half brother to stakes winner Story to Tell.

$1.2-million Broken Vow colt tops Spring Sale’s third session

Hip No. 901, a son of Broken Vow consigned by Tom McCrocklin, Agent, was sold to Breeze Easy LLC for $1,200,000 to top day three of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2016 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. The chestnut colt, who sped a quarter in :20 4/5 at last Friday’s Under Tack session, is out of stakes winner Haddie Be Good, by Silver Deputy, and a half brother to stakes winner Story to Tell.

Hip No. 803, a bay colt by Candy Ride (ARG) consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, went to Dennis O’Neill for $875,000. A half brother to stakes winner Barbie Wire out of graded stakes winner Fencelineneighbor, by Wild Rush, he breezed an eighth in :10 flat at Thursday’s Under Tack session.

Steven W. Young, Agent, went to $420,000 for Hip No. 843, a daughter of The Factor consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, who worked a quarter on Friday in :20 4/5. The gray or roan filly is out of stakes winner Friona, by Allen’s Prospect, a full sister to stakes winner Fort Dodge.

Hip No. 645, a daughter of Gemologist consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, was sold to Klaravich Stable, Inc. for $300,000. The bay filly, who turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat on Thursday, is out of Collect the Fee, by Menifee, a half sister to graded stakes winner Archbishop.

Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners went to $300,000 for Hip No. 728, a daughter of Uncle Mo who breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 on Thursday. Consigned by Bridlewood Farm, the dark bay or brown filly is out of stakes placed Dixietwostepper, by More Than Ready.

Hip No. 624, a daughter of Tapizar consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, was sold to Alex & JoAnn Lieblong for $280,000. The bay filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 at Thursday’s Under Tack session, is out of stakes placed Chilling Effect, by Gold Fever.

Hip No. 698, a daughter of Hansen consigned by Hendry Training Stables LLC, Agent, was purchased by Lex, Inc. for $260,000. The gray or roan filly, who worked an eighth in :10 flat on Thursday, is out of Debit Or Credit, by Cat Thief, a half sister to graded stakes winner Alke.

Neil Drysdale paid $250,000 for Hip No. 629, Chris Cove Town, consigned by McKathan Bros., Agent. The chestnut filly by Jersey Town, who worked an eighth in :10 flat on Thursday, is out of Christmas Cove, by More Than Ready, a half sister to graded stakes winner Coal Play.

Hip No. 858, Grateful, a dark bay or brown filly by Hard Spun consigned by Shanbally Acres, was sold to Jerry Frankel for $250,000. Out of stakes winner Generosity, by Unbridled’s Song, and a full sister to stakes winner Integrity, she turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat last Friday.

For the session, 156 horses sold for a total of $13,816,500, compared with 173 grossing $15,489,000 at last year’s third session. The average price was $88,567 compared with $89,532 a year ago while the median was $50,000, up from $45,000 in 2015. The buyback percentage was 27.1%; it was 22.4% last year.

The Spring Sale concludes on Friday, with the final session beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Gemologist colt tops Spring Sale’s second session

Hip No. 564, a gray or roan colt by Gemologist consigned by Sequel Bloodstock, Agent, went to Lane’s End Bloodstock for $550,000 to top the second session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2016 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. The half brother to stakes winners Glitter City and Here’s Johnny, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat at last Wednesday’s Under Tack session, is out of Bon Caro, by Bon Point (GB).

Hip No. 517, a son of Overdriven consigned by Ocala Stud, was sold to Peter Miller, Agent, for $525,000. The gray or roan colt, who breezed a quarter in :21 flat at last Wednesday’s Under Tack session, is out of Back to Basics, by Alphabet Soup, and is a half brother to graded stakes winning OBS graduate Calculator, second in the recent Carter Handicap (G1) at Aqueduct.

Hip No. 469, a gray or roan filly by Speightstown consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc., (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, went to Linda Rice, Agent for $440,000. A half sister to graded stakes winner Alpha Kitten out of Alpha Mama, by Unbridled’s Song, she worked an eighth in :10 flat at Wednesday’s Under Tack Session.

Mike Ryan, Agent, went to $400,000 for Hip No. 404, a daughter of High Cotton consigned by Ocala Stud. The bay filly, who breezed a quarter in :21 2/5 at last Tuesday’s Under Tack session, is out of West Side Dancer, by Gone West, and is a half sister to graded stakes winners Discreet Dancer and Travelin Man.

Hip No. 395, a son of Macho Uno consigned by Grassroots Training & Sales LLC, went to Rockingham Ranch for $335,000. The chestnut colt, whose eighth in :9 4/5 at Tuesday’s Under Tack session was the day’s co-fastest at the distance, is out of Wadena, by Saint Ballado, and is a half brother to stakes placed Papa Turf.

Hip No. 416, a dark bay or brown colt out by Archarcharch who breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat last Wednesday, was purchased by D. J. Stable LLC for $335,000. Consigned by Randy Bradshaw, Agent, he’s out of graded stakes placed Wild Forest Cat, by D’wildcat, and is a full brother to graded stakes winner Toews On Ice.

Hip No. 463, Savage Battle, a son of War Front consigned by Old South Farm LLC, Agent, was purchased by Klaravich Stable, Inc. for $320,000. The bay colt, out of graded stakes placed stakes winner All for Thee, by Elusive Quality, breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat last Wednesday.

Hip No. 535, a half brother to champion sprinter Runhappy by Lookin At Lucky consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, was sold to Gary Sciacca, Agent, for $300,000. The bay colt, who worked an eighth in :10 2/5 last Wednesday, is out of Bella Jolie, by Broken Vow, a half sister to graded stakes placed stakes winner Millennium Storm.

For the session, 158 horses grossed $12,119,000, compared with 160 bringing a total of $13,580,700 at the corresponding session a year ago. The average price was $76,703 compared with $84,879 in 2015 while the median was $43,500 compared with $50,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 30.7%; it was 25.2% last year.
