OBS expands the March Two-Year-Old Sale

An increase in entries has precipitated The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company to expand the 2023 March Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training.

The Under Tack Show will expand to four sessions, beginning Tuesday, March 14^th and continuing through Friday, March, 17^th instead of March 16-18. All sessions begin at 8:00 a.m.

There will now be three sale sessions, beginning Monday March 20^th and continuing through Wednesday, March 22^nd. The original sale dates were March 21-22. All sessions get underway at 11:00 a.m.

As always, the sale and Under Tack Show will be streamed live via the OBS website at obssales.com, and also via the Blood-Horse, DRF TDN and Past the Wire websites. The catalog will be available after the conclusion of the Winter Mixed Sale.

Current information about OBS sales, consignors and graduates is now also available via social media sites Facebook and Twitter. A link on the homepage directs users to either site.

Sales results will be available on the OBS website, updated promptly during each session of the March Sale. In addition, the latest news regarding OBS graduates, sales schedules, nominations, credit requests, travel information and other news relevant to OBS consignors and customers is also available. Winter Mixed Sale supplemental catalog now online

The supplemental catalog to the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2023 Winter Mixed Sale is now available in the company’s website in the sale’s main page. go to the Winter Mixed Sale

A total of 67 horses have been supplemented to the sale. The supplemental catalog will be available in print at the sales grounds.

Eleven horses have been supplemented to the Preferred Session, for a total of 143 horses cataloged as Hip No.’s 1 – 143. The Session will begin Tuesday, January 24^th at 12 noon.

The addition of 42 supplements swells the Horses of Racing Age Session to a total of 147, cataloged as Hip No.’s 201 – 347, beginning immediately following the Preferred Session. Hip No.’s 335 – 347 are not in the printed supplemental catalog but available in the OBS website and in printed flyer form at the sales grounds.

Fourteen horses have been added to the Open Session, which gets underway Wednesday, January 25^that 12 noon with a total of 252 horses cataloged as Hip No.’s 401 – 652.

The Racing Age section’s optional Under Tack Show is scheduled for Monday, January 23^rd at 9:00 a.m.

As always, the sale will be streamed live via the OBS website at obssales.com, and also via the Blood-Horse, DRF TDN and Past the Wire websites.

Lightening Larry wins Gulfstream’s Sunshine Sprint Stakes

Lea Farms, LLC’s Lightening Larry led from gate to wire and scored a 2-1/2 length victory in Saturday’s $75,000 Sunshine Sprint Stakes at Gulfstream Park. That’s three stakes wins for the 4-year-old Florida-bred colt by Uncaptured, sold for $50,000 by Pick View LLC, Agent, at the 2021 March Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. Prince Saud Bin Salman Abdulaziz’s 2022 Saudi Cup (G1) winner Emblem Road, idle since July, returned to work on Friday and prepped to defend his Saudi Cup title with a four-length victory in a $25,289 allowance test at King Abdulaziz Racecourse. Consigned to the 2020 OBS Spring Sale by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, the 5-year-old son of Quality Road was purchased for $80,000 by Bruno DeBerdt, Agent, after breezing a quarter in :21 3/5 at the Under Tack Show. OBS grads posted a pair of stakes victories at Tampa Bay Downs on Saturday.

Stud Carmen Cristina, LLC’s Zydeceaux set the pace from the start of the $125,000 Pasco Stakes and held off a late charge by fellow OBS graduate Champion’s Dream (March ’22) to score by a neck. It’s the first stakes victory for the 3-year-old Florida-bred son of Cajun Breeze, sold for $15,000 by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, at the 2021 OBS October Yearling Sale. Trained by Ramon Minguet, he’s now 5-3-1-1 and has earned $153,540.

J.P.G. 2 LLC, Mr Pug LLC, Winning Stables, Inc. and Mary K, Thomas’ Tap Dance Fever turned in a strong stretch run to get up in the final yards and take the $50,000 Wayward Lass Stakes by a head. It’s the fist stakes victory for the 5-year-old daughter of Tapiture, purchased for $17,000 out of the Wavertree Stables consignment at the 2020 OBS Spring Sale after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :21 2/5. Scoobie Quando takes Turfway Prevue Stakes in debut

Andrew N. Warren and Rania Warren’s Scoobie Quando broke his maiden in his debut in Saturday’s $124,100 Turfway Prevue Stakes, stalking the pace, fighting for the lead down the stretch and proving best by a neck at the wire, with fellow OBS graduate Schiftys’ Haloid (March ’22) checking in third. Ben Colebrook trains the newly-turned 3-year-old colt by Uncle Mo, who earned $76,600 for his effort. Gary Barber’s Bron and Brow came from just off the pace to catch fellow OBS graduate Swot Analysis (October ’19, April, June ’20) in the final yards and win Saturday’s $75,000 Gary P. Palmisano Memorial Stakes at Fair Grounds by a neck. It’s the second stakes win for the 4-year-old son of Gormley, who broke his maiden in Fair Grounds’ 2021 Louisiana Futurity. OBS grads sweep New Year’s Day stakes at Gulfstream

OBS graduates celebrated New Year’s Day at Gulfstream Park by winning all three stakes races on the holiday card.

Lea Farms, LLC’s Super Chow rang in the new year with his fourth straight stakes win, a frontrunning one length victory in the $100,000 Limehouse Stakes. The newly turned 3-year-old graded stakes placed Lord Nelson colt, trained by Jorge Delgado, is now 6-5-0-1 and has earned $297,230 to date. Diamond 100 Racing Club, LLC’s Infinite Diamond pressed the pace from the inside in the $100,000 Cash Run Stakes, took charge turning for home and drew away with ease to score by 2-1/4 lengths. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old daughter of Bee Jersey, now 5-2-1-0 with $103,189 in earnings for trainer Patrick Biancone. Aldana Gonzalez Racing LLC, Lisa Ballou and Steve Ballou’s Dreaming of Kona, third to Super Chow in Tampa Bay’s Inaugural Stakes in his last start, picked up his first stakes win via disqualification in the $150,000 Mucho Macho Man Stakes. Tracking fellow OBS graduate Legacy Isle (April ’22) into the stretch, he was carried out by that one a sixteenth out and forced to settle for second, beaten by half a length. City Man, Skippylongstocking score in Gulfstream graded stakes

OBS Spring Sale graduates scored in a pair of New Year’s Eve graded stakes, capturing both of Gulfstream’s prep races for the upcoming Pegasus World Cup (G1) and Pegasus World Cup Turf (G1).

Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, Peter Searles and Patty Searles’ City Man found room on the rail after turning for home in the $200,000 Ft. Lauderdale Stakes (G2) on the turf, took command a furlong from home and drew away to win by a length and a half. It’s the third straight stakes victory for the now 6-year-old multiple graded stakes winning son of Mucho Macho Man, trained by Christophe Clement, now 26-9-5-3 with $987,120 in earnings. Daniel Alonso’s West Virginia Derby (G3) winner Skippylongstocking ended his 3-year-old campaign with a flourish, sweeping to the lead at the head of the stretch of the $200,000 Harlan’s Holiday Stakes (G3) and pulling away to score by two lengths. It’s the second stakes win for the colt by Exaggerator, purchased for $37,000 out of the Top Line Sales consignment at the 2021 OBS Spring Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. ERJ Racing, LLC, Pappas Horse Racing, Corp and Neil A. Haymes’ Broadway Girls jumped from a maiden victory at Del Mar in November into Friday’s $103,000 Blue Norther Stakes at Santa Anita, took the lead at the start and never looked back, scoring by a length and a half. Trained by Doug O’Neill, the daughter of Army Mule ended her juvenile campaign with a 4-2-0-0 record and $108,020 in earnings. Dublin Fjord Stables LLC, Racepoint Stables, Kevin D. Hilbert and Thomas E. O’Keefe’s millionaire Drafted was last early in Aqueduct’s $130,950 Gravesend Stakes on Friday, but rallied down the stretch on the outside and was up in the last jump to win by a nose. It’s the eighth stakes victory for the now 9-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Field Commission, trained by David P. Duggan, now 33,10-3-4 with earnings of $1,157,443. Country Grammer romps in Santa Anita’s San Antonio Stakes

Commonwealth Thoroughbreds, LLC, Winstar Farm LLC and Zedan Racing Stables, Inc.’s Country Grammer was much the best in Santa Anita’s $200,500 San Antonio Stakes (G2), tracking the early leaders, taking command turning for home and drawing off with authority to a 4-1/2 length score. Fellow OBS graduate Heywoods Beach (June ’19) checked in third. Reunited with rider Frankie Dettori, aboard in his Dubai World Cup (G1) victory in March, the 5-year-old son of Tonalist, trained by Bob Baffert, now boasts four graded stakes wins, a 14-5-5-1 career record and $11,277,320 in earnings. Fortune Racing LLC’s (al Maktoum) Candy Light relaxed off the pace in Monday’s $100,000 Tropical Park Oaks at Gulfstream, rallied on the outside down the stretch, took over late and was best by a length at the wire. It’s the first stakes victory for the 3-year-old filly by Candy Ride (ARG), trained by Graham Motion, now 11-3-4-1 with $248,268 in earnings. Averill Racing LLC and Jayson R. Werth’s R Adios Jersey, on furlough since May, returned to defend her title in Saturday’s $100,000 FTBOA City of Ocala Florida Sire Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs. The 4-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Adios Charlie, trained by Gerald Bennett, took the lead at the start and was never headed, turning back a stretch challenge from fellow OBS graduate Restofthestory (April ’20) and scoring by a length and three quarters. It’s her third stakes win and leaves her with a 9-6-1-0 career record with $270,250 in earnings. Winter Mixed Sale catalog now online

The catalog for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2023 Winter Mixed Sale is now available via the OBS website at obssales.com. The two-day sale is set for Tuesday and Wednesday, January 24^th and 25^th. Supplemental entries are being accepted until January 12^th. For Supplements go to JanuaryEntryForms

The sale begins on Tuesday, January 24^th at 12:00 noon with Hip No.’s 1 – 132 cataloged in the Consignor Preferred Session. The Horses of Racing Session, cataloged as Hip No.’s 201 – 305, begins immediately following the conclusion of the Preferred Session. The Open Session, with Hip No.’s 401 – 638 cataloged, is set for Wednesday, January 25^th and will also begin at 12:00 noon.

The Under Tack Show for the Horses of Racing Age Section is set for Monday, January 23^rd at 9:00 a.m. The Under Tack Show and Sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the DRF, TDN, BloodHorse and PastTheWire websites.

There are 262 yearlings cataloged by a diverse group of proven and promising sires. Audible, Bolt d’Oro, Bucchero, Caravaggio, Catalina Cruiser, City of Light, Classic Empire, Enticed, Flameaway, Frosted, Girvin, Kantharos, Khozan, Kitten’s Joy. Maclean’s Music, Malibu Moon, Maximus Mischief, Midshipman, Mitole, More Than Ready, Omaha Beach, Practical Joke, Sharp Azteca, Solomini, Tapit, Union Rags, Upstart, Vino Rosso, Violence and World of Trouble are represented.

First crop sires with yearlings include Complexity, Gift Box, Global Campaign, Gunnevera, Improbable, Instagrand, Instilled Regard, McKinzie, Shancelot, Spun to Run, Thousand Words and Vekoma.

The sale also features mares in foal to an outstanding roster of up and coming sires including: Awesome Slew, Bolt d’Oro, Connect, Dialed In, Girvin, Gunnevera, Improbable, Independence Hall, Midshipman, Mitole, Tacitus, Uncle Chuck, Vekoma and Violence.
