The catalog for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2018 March Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training is now available via the OBS website at obssales.com. The online catalog’s main page contains a link to a sortable master index providing searchable pedigree and consignor information as well as access to pedigree updates occurring since the catalog was printed.

The sortable master index has been updated with advanced search and filter capability and to allow shortlist creation. A link to instructions for using the new features can be found in the index header and a step by step tutorial is available in the index as well.

The iPad version of the catalog can be accessed via the equineline Sales Catalog App. The App allows users to download and view the catalog, receive updates and results, record notes and also provides innovative search, sort and rating capability. A total of 573 juveniles have been cataloged for the two-day sale, set for Tuesday and Wednesday, March 13^th and 14^th, with both sessions beginning at 10:30 a.m. Hip No.’s 1 -286 sell on Tuesday; Hip No.’s 287 – 573 will go through the ring on Wednesday. The Under Tack Show will span three days, beginning Thursday, March 8^th with Hips 1 – 191. Hips 192 – 382 will breeze Friday, March 9^th and Hips 383 – 573 will go Saturday, March 10^th. All three sessions will begin at 8:00 a.m. The Under Tack Show and Sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the DRF and Blood-Horse websites.

A perennial source of high caliber racehorses, the OBS March Sale has produced six champions, 29 millionaires and six winners of seven Breeders’ Cup races. Since the beginning of 2016, OBS March graduates have won or placed in 382 stakes races, including 148 graded events.

The past year saw OBS March graduates win grade one races at home and overseas. Speedway Stable LLC’s Collected went over the million dollar mark in earnings with a wire to wire win in Del Mar’s $1,000,000 Pacific Classic (G1) at the direct expense of champion Arrogate.  It was the fifth graded stakes win for the son of City Zip, who has earned $2,966,500 in the care of trainer Bob Baffert. Wong Chi Tat’s Forever Young captured the Singapore Guineas (G1) in front-running style in May and returned in August to take the Chairman’s Trophy (G2). The colt by Run Away and Hide, trained by Kuah Cheng Tee, has earned over half a million dollars. Loooch Racing Stables, Inc., Glenn K. Ellis and Imaginary Stables’ War Story topped the million dollar mark in 2017 with his victory in Belmont’s Brooklyn Invitational Stakes (G2) in June. The 6-year-old gelding by Northern Afleet, trained by Jorge Navarro, has earned $2,234,305 to date.  Consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, to the 2014 OBS March Sale, he worked an eighth in :10 4/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

Reddam Racing LLC’s Irap was a multiple graded stakes winner in 2017, with victories in the Blue Grass Stakes (G2), Indiana Derby (G3) and the Ohio Derby (G3). Consigned by Bobby Dodd, Agent, to the 2016 OBS March Sale, he breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 before he was purchased by Dennis O’Neill for $300,000. Exline-Border Racing LLC, Gatto Racing LLC & Garrett Zubok’s 2015 March graduate Giant Expectations scored a pair of graded stakes victories in 2017, taking the Pat O’Brien (G2) and San Antonio Stakes (G2). MMG LLC’s 2016 grad El Areeb also picked up two, taking the Jerome (G3) and Withers (G3). China Horse Club, Head of Plains Partners LLC, SF Racing LLC et al’s 2016 graduate American Anthem took two as well, winning the Woody Stephens (G2) and Lazaro Barrera (G3).

The class of 2017 is off and running with half a dozen graded winners to date, headed by March Sale catalog cover boy Instilled Regard. OXO Equine’s 3-year-old colt by Arch, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, got the new year off to a good start with a 3-3/4 length victory in the Lecomte Stakes (G3) at Fair Grounds. Now 5-2-2-1 with $228,000 in earnings, he was consigned by Tom McCrocklin, Agent, to the 2017 OBS March Sale, where he sped an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5 before being purchased by OXO Equine for $1,050,000. watch his under tack video

Last year’s sale has also produced Twin Creeks Racing Stables’ Pure Silver, winner of the Saratoga’s Adirondack (G2), Woodford Racing LLC’s Belmont Futurity (G3) winner Engage and William H. Lawrence’s Analyze It, two for two and the victor in Del Mar’s Cecil B. DeMille (G3).

The 2018 March Sale features youngsters by a star-studded roster stallions, headed by Candy Ride (ARG) sire of Horse of the Year Gun Runner. Bernardini heads a list of top echelon proven sires that includes Curlin, Giant’s Causeway, Ghostzapper, First Dude, Into Mischief, Kitten’s Joy, Malibu Moon, More Than Ready, Pioneerof the Nile, Speightstown, Tapit, Quality Road, Uncle Mo, Union Rags and War Front.

Kentucky Derby winners Animal Kingdom and Orb are among the up and coming sires with March Sale offspring, a group that includes Cairo Prince, Declaration of War, He’s Had Enough, Noble Mission (GB), Point of Entry, Poseidon’s Warrior, Treasure Beach (GB), Violence, Uncaptured and Will Take Charge.

Hip No. 745, a daughter of Malibu Moon consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, went to Patrice Miller, EQB, Inc., Agent, for $150,000 to top the Open Session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2018 Winter Mixed Sale. The bay yearling filly is out of graded stakes winner Yara, by Put It Back.

Hip No. 575, a yearling son of Commissioner also consigned by Summerfield, was purchased for $60,000 by First Finds. The bay colt is out of stakes winner Lunarlady, by Yes It’s True, a half sister to graded stakes winners Astrology and Lunarpal.

Sarah Sharp paid $60,000 for Hip No. 675, a bay yearling filly by Tapiture consigned by Pelican State Thoroughbreds, Agent. A half sister to recently stakes placed Girl’s Life, she’s out of Saucey Officer, by Officer, a half sister to graded stakes placed stakes winner Daniel My Brother.

Summerfield was also the consignor of Hip No. 564, a yearling bay colt by OBS graduate The Big Beast, purchased by Calumet Farm for $51,000. He’s out of Lets Dance Charlie, by Indian Charlie, a half sister to graded stakes placed Join in the Dance.

For the Open session, 202 horses sold for a total of $1,630,900 compared with 178 horses bringing $695,700 in 2017. The average price rose to $8,074 compared with $3,908 last year, while the median price was $3,500 compared with $2,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 26%; it was 38.6% in 2017.

The overall sale topper was Hip No. 30, a yearling daughter of Violence consigned by Gem Racing, Inc., sold for $200,000 to SBM, Agent for East Hickman Racing. The dark bay or brown filly is out of stakes winner Carphonic, by Lion Heart.

For the Consignor Preferred session, 149 horses sold for a total of $3,599,200, compared with 91 horses grossing $1,586,000 in 2017. The average price was $24,156, up 38.6% compared with $17,429 a year ago, while the median price rose to $12,000 compared with $10,000 last year. The buyback percentage was 28.7%; it was 43.5% last year.

At the Horses of Racing Age session, 56 horses grossed $874,500 compared with 57 selling for a total of $656,000 in 2017. The average was $15,616, up 35.7% from $11,509 a year ago, while the median price was $9,000 compared to $8,000 last year. The buyback percentage was 11.1%; it was 12.3% in 2017.

For the entire Winter Mixed Sale, 407 horses sold for a total of $6,104,600, compared to 326 horses bringing $2,937,700 last year. The average was $14,999, compared with $9,011 in 2017 while the median price was $6,000 compared with $4,350 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 25.3%, it was 36.8% in 2017. Nine horses brought $100,000 or more compared with one last year.

Next on the OBS agenda is the March Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training, scheduled for March 13 – 14. The Under Tack Show is set for March 8 – 10, beginning each morning at 8:00 a.m.

The dark bay or brown filly is out of stakes winner Carphonic, by Lion Heart.

Hip No. 5, a yearling daughter of More Than Ready consigned by Select Sales, Agent, went to de Meric Stables, Agent, for $170,000. The chestnut filly is out of Again, by Unbridled’s Song, a daughter of grade one stakes winner Shine Again.

Hip No. 82, a yearling daughter of Liam’s Map consigned by Pelican State Thoroughbreds was purchased by Three Diamonds Farm for $150,000. Out of Groton Circle, by Mr. Greeley, a half sister to graded stakes placed stakes winner Abraham, she’s a half sister to Supreme Aura, unbeaten in his first two starts.

Brookstone Farm went to $120,000 for Hip No. 24, a dark bay or brown yearling filly by Violence consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent. A half sister to stakes placed Fly Friendly Sky, she’s out of Callie’s Joy, by Distorted Humor.

Stuart Morris, Agent for Highclere, consigned Hip No. 190, a yearling bay filly by Quality Road purchased by de Meric Stables, Agent, for $115,000. She’s out of grade one stakes placed stakes winner Saucey Evening, by More Than Ready.

Hip No. 44, a yearling son of Palace Malice consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent, was sold for $100,000 to Baccari Bloodstock LLC. The dark bay or brown colt is out of Colonel Dettwiller, by Colonel John, a half sister to millionaire grade one stakes winner Yes It’s True.

Hip No. 128, a dark bay or brown Cairo Prince colt consigned by Kaizen Sales (Richard Kent), Agent, went to de Meric Stables, Agent, for $100,000. He’s out of McSpice, by Pulpit, a half sister to stakes winner Flavor.

For the Consignor Preferred session, 144 horses sold for a total of $3,567,200, compared with 91 horses grossing $1,586,000 in 2017. The average price was $24,772, up 42% compared with $17,429 a year ago, while the median price rose 40% to $14,000 compared with $10,000 last year. The buyback percentage was 31.1%; it was 43.5% last year.

Hip No. 343, Bring Joy, an unraced 3-year-old daughter of Twirling Candy consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, was sold to Eddie Plesa, Agent, for $110,000 to top the Horses of Racing Age section. The dark bay or brown filly, who breezed three eighths at the Under Tack Show in :32 4/5, is a half sister to stakes winner Courtside out of Wet, by Boston Harbor.

Hip No. 287, Terminology, a 3-year-old bay filly by Bernardini consigned by Best A Luck Farm LLC, Agent, went to Loooch Racing for $65,000. Out of Her Own Terms, by Storm Cat, she’s a half sister to graded stakes placed stakes winning OBS graduate Stormin Monarcho.

Richard Hendrik went to $50,000 for Hip No 345, Geyser, a son of the Factor consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent. The gray or roan 3-year-old colt, a half brother to stakes placed Kens Cape, is out of Wild Country, by Unbridled.

For the Horses of Racing Age session, 53 horses grossed $838,000 compared with 57 selling for a total of $656,000 in 2017. The average was $15,811, up 37.4% from $11,509 a year ago, while the median price was $9,000 compared to $8,000 last year. The buyback percentage was 15.9%; it was 12.3% in 2017.

Hip No. 318, Ready to Dance, worked three eighths in :32 flat to post the fastest work at the distance at the  Under Tack Show for the Horses of Racing Age section of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2018 Winter Mixed Sale. The unraced 3-year-old dark bay or brown Florida-bred colt by Take Charge Indy, consigned by Journeyman Bloodstock Services, Inc. (Brent & Crystal Fernung), Agent, is out of stakes placed Readybdancing, by More Than Ready, a daughter of stakes winner Silent Serenade.

Hip No. 268, Saucy Symphony, sped three eighths in :32 1/5. The 4-year-old chestnut filly by First Samurai, consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, is out of stakes winner Celtic Chant, by Songandaprayer.

Hip No. 307, Mr Harlan, worked the distance in :32 2/5. The 6-year-old bay son of Harlan’s Holiday, consigned by Wes Carter, Agent, is out of stakes placed Merrill Gold, by Gold Fever, and is a half brother to stakes winner Isabelle.

A total of 602 horses are cataloged for the Preferred and Open sessions of the Sale, scheduled to begin Wednesday, January 24^th with Hip Numbers 1 – 254 selling in the Consignor Preferred session, followed immediately by the Horses of Racing Age section. Hip Numbers 401 – 748 in the Open Session will be offered Thursday, January 25^th.

Seventeen horses have been supplemented to the Horses of Racing Age Session as Hip No.’s 349 – 365. There are now 111 horses in the Racing Age Session, cataloged as Hip No.’s 255 – 365. The Session will begin immediately following the Preferred Session (Hip Numbers 1 – 254), which gets underway at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24^th. The 348 horses cataloged in the Open Session (Hip No.’s 401 – 748) will be sold Thursday, January 25^th, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The Racing Age section’s optional Under Tack Show is scheduled for Monday, January 22^nd at 10:00 a.m.

The supplemental catalog will be available in print at the sales grounds.
