OBS 2-year-old sale graduates Shamrock Rose and Stormy Liberal have won 2018 Eclipse Awards.

Conrad Farms’ Shamrock Rose, voted 2018’s Champion Female Sprinter, ended her 3-year-old campaign with four straight stakes wins, the last a victory in the $1-million Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1). The newly turned 4-year-old daughter of First Dude was purchased for $120,000 out of the Best A Luck Farm LLC consignment at the 2017 OBS April Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. Trained by Mark Casse, she’s now 10-5-2-1 with $917,687 in earnings. Starship Jubilee leads 1-2-3 OBS sweep of Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf

OBS graduates posted three stakes wins at Gulfstream Saturday on Sunshine Millions Day.

Blue Heaven Farm’s Starship Jubilee successfully defended her title in the $150,000 Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf Stakes, coming from off the pace to take charge in the stretch and draw off to a 4-1/2 length victory over fellow OBS graduate Bitacora (August ’15) with Mrs. Ramona G. (March ’17, August ’16) completing a 1-2-3 OBS sweep. It’s the fifth stakes win for the 6-year-old multiple graded stakes winning Florida-bred daughter of Indy Wind, now 26-12-2-2 with $652,018 in earnings for trainer Kevin Attard. The two-time OBS graduate was sold by The Acorn at the 2014 August Yearling Sale and then consigned by Halcyon Hammock Farm, Agent, to the 2015 April Sale where she breezed an eighth in :10 2/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch her under tack video

Steve Landers Racing LLC’s Big Changes rallied to roll past the leaders in the final furlong of the $150,000 Sunshine Millions Turf Stakes, easing away late to score by a length and a half. That’s five stakes wins for the 7-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Midshipman, a two-time OBS graduate, sold by Crowe’s Nest Farm at the 2013 Winter Mixed Sale and then purchased by Steve Landers for $170,000 out of the Pick View LLC consignment at the 2014 April Sale after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5. Midwest Thoroughbreds’ Quijote relaxed off a blistering pace in the $100,000 Sunshine Millions Sprint Stakes, but swung wide for the drive, ran past the leaders in the final sixteenth and drew off to win by 3-3/4 lengths, with fellow OBS graduate Sweetontheladies (April ’16) checking in third. Both the winner and third place finisher ran in the OBS Sprint Stakes in November. It’s the third stakes score for the 5-year-old Florida-bred son of Pomeroy, trained by Georgina Baxter, now 24-8-4-1 with $395,065 in earnings. Kallenberg Farms’ Forever Liesl scored her first stakes win in the $100,000 Ladies Handicap at Aqueduct on Saturday, trailing early but rallying to take command a furlong from home and drawing away late to win by 4-1/4 lengths. The 5-year-old Florida-bred graded stakes placed daughter of Mineshaft was consigned to the 2016 OBS June Sale by Tom McCrocklin, Agent, where she turned in an Under Tack quarter in :21 4/5. Ruis Racing LLC’s Midnight Pleasure was last in the early going of the $50,000 Forego Stakes on Friday at Turfway Park, but came flying on the outside down the stretch and was up in the final strides to score by a neck. It’s the first stakes win for the 5-year-old gelding by Midnight Lute, who worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat before he was sold by Randy Miles, Agent, for $310,000 to Ruis Racing at the 2016 April Sale. Winter Mixed Horses of Racing Age Supplemental Catalog now online

The supplemental catalog to the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2019 Winter Mixed Sale is now available on the company’s website at obssales.com.

Seventeen horses have been supplemented to the Horses of Racing Age Session as Hip No.’s 287 – 303. There are now 117 horses in the Racing Age Session, cataloged as Hip No.’s 187 – 303. The Session will begin immediately following the Preferred Session (Hip Numbers 1 – 186), which gets underway at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29^th. The 339 horses cataloged in the Open Session (Hip No.’s 351 – 689) will be sold Wednesday, January 30^th, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

The Racing Age section’s optional Under Tack Show is scheduled for Monday, January 28^th at 10:00 a.m.

The supplemental catalog will be available in print at the sales grounds.

Several of the horses in the Racing Age section have had notable updates since the catalog was printed.

Hip No. 198, Noble Commander, winner of the OBS Sophomore Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs last March, posted a front running victory in the Woodchopper Stakes at Fair Grounds on December 29^th. The 4-year-old colt by Forestry, consigned by Moonshadow Farm, Agent, has earned $143,843 to date.
Hip No. 247, Yes Factor, a 4-year-old filly by The Factor consigned by Craig L. Wheeler, Agent, followed a maiden special victory in her debut at Gulfstream Park West in November with a gate to wire score in a Gulfstream optional allowance in December.
Hip No. 294, Midnight Curfew, a 3-year-old colt by Midnight Lute supplemented to the sale by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, broke his maiden in his third start, taking a $68,000 one mile maiden special at Aqueduct last Sunday.

Doctor Mounty takes Gulfstream’s Tropical Turf Stakes

Larry Pratt and Dave Alden’s Doctor Mounty was last going in the early going of Saturday’s $100,000 Tropical Turf Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream, but swung out on the turn, closed on the outside down the stretch and ran past the leaders late to win by a length. It’s the second graded stakes win for the 5-year-old son of Street Sense, purchased for $170,000 out of the Niall Brennan Stables consignment at the 2015 OBS June Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 3/5. Gunmetal Gray scores in Santa Anita’s Sham Stakes

Hollendorfer LLC, Pearl Racing and West Point Thoroughbreds’ Gunmetal Gray trailed in the early going of Saturday’s $100,702 Sham Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita, but circled horses on the turn to reach contention and then ran past the field in the final furlong to score by a length. He’s the fourth OBS graduate to win the Sham Stakes. Goldencents (June ’12) won the 2013 renewal, followed by Calculator (April ’14) in 2015 and Collected (March ’15) a year later. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Exchange Rate, second in Santa Anita’s American Pharoah (G1) in September. Now 5-2-1-0 with earnings of $217,200 for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, he was purchased for $225,000 out of the Brick City Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2018 OBS March Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. watch his under tack video

LRE Racing LLC and JEH Racing Stable LLC’s Casa Creed stalked the pace in the $100,000 Kitten’s Joy Stakes, fought to take the lead in deep stretch then held off a late charge by fellow OBS graduate Henley’s Joy (April ’18) and beat him by a neck. It’s the first stakes victory for the 3-year-old colt by Jimmy Creed, purchased for $15,000 out of the Janie Roper consignment at the 2017 Winter Mixed Sale. Trained by Bill Mott, he’s now 5-2-0-0 and has earned $111,408 to date.

e Five Racing Thoroughbreds and Stonestreet Stables LLC’s Seismic Jolt turned in an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5 before he was sold for $800,000 by Ocala Stud at the 2018 April Sale. After breaking his maiden in December at Gulfstream, the 3-year-old colt by Kantharos stepped into Saturday’s $75,000 Limehouse Stakes, took command on the turn and cruised home from there to a 3-1/2 length victory. It’s the second stakes win for the 4-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Old Fashioned, trained by Martin Weston, now 9-5-1-1 with $143,290 in earnings. Robert LaPenta and Head of Plains Partners LLC’s Coal Front gave his connections an early Christmas present on Saturday at Gulfstream, sitting just off the early pace in the $100,000 Mr. Prospector Stakes (G3), circling horses to take charge in the stretch and drawing away in a 3-3/4 length victory. It’s the third graded stakes win for the 4-year-old colt by Stay Thirsty, trained by Todd Pletcher, now 7-5-0-0 with $477,280 in earnings. He turned in an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5 before he was purchased for $575,000 by Steven W. Young on behalf of Mr. LaPenta at the 2016 OBS April Sale. watch his under tack video

Naveed Chowhan’s America’s Tale took charge of Wednesday’s $72,750 Tiffany Lass Stakes at Fair Grounds at the start and never looked back, cruising to a five length victory over fellow OBS graduate Shenandoah Queen (March ’14, January ’13). That’s two straight stakes scores for the 3-year-old filly by Gio Ponti, consigned by Eisaman Equine to the 2017 OBS March Sale, where she went through the ring after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. Winter Mixed Sale catalog now online

The catalog for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2019 Winter Mixed Sale is now available on the OBS website at http://obssales.com. The online catalog’s main page contains a link to a sortable master index providing searchable pedigree and consignor information as well as access to pedigree updates occurring since the catalog was printed. Advanced search and filter capability has been added to allow shortlist creation. A link to instructions for using the new features can be found in the index header and a step by step tutorial is available in the index as well.

The iPad version of the catalog can be accessed via the equineline Sales Catalog App. The App allows users to download and view the catalog, receive updates and results, record notes and also provides innovative search, sort and rating capability. There are 186 horses cataloged in the Preferred Session, scheduled to begin Tuesday, January 29^th at 11:00 a.m., followed immediately by 100 horses currently cataloged in the Racing Age Session (Hip Numbers 187 – 286). Supplemental Racing Age entries will be accepted through January 15^th and a separate supplemental Racing Age catalog will be available on the OBS website and in printed form at the sales grounds. The 339 horses cataloged in the Open Session (Hip No.’s 351 – 689) will be sold Wednesday, January 30^th, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

The Racing Age section’s optional Under Tack Show is scheduled for Monday, January 28^th at 10:00 a.m.

OBS grads take three stakes at Tampa Bay Downs

OBS graduates posted three stakes wins at Tampa Bay Downs on Saturday.

Michael Dubb, Madaket Stables LLC and Bethlehem Stables LLC’s World of Trouble was much the best in the $125,000 FTBOA Marion County Sire Stakes, leading every step of the way and scoring by 13-3/4 lengths over seven overmatched rivals. It’s the fourth stakes win for the 3-year-old grade one stakes placed Florida-bred colt by Kantharos, second to OBS graduate Stormy Liberal (June ’14) in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) in his previous start. Now 9-5-2-1 with $578,400 in earnings for trainer Jason Servis, he was consigned by Darsan Inc., Agent, and went through the ring at the 2016 OBS August Yearling Sale.

Richlyn Farms’ Silver Bay led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of the $125,000 FTBOA City of Ocala Sire Stakes, rallying on the outside to reach contention in the stretch and closing well to beat Broadway Run (April ’17) by a neck, with Catoria (January ’16) another neck back in third. That’s two stakes wins for the 3-year-old Florida-bred filly by Currency Swap, trained by William Hickey, now 7-3-1-0 with $161,983 in earnings. She’s a two-time OBS graduate, sold by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent at the 2015 Fall Mixed Sale then resold for $47,000 by Woodside Ranch, Agent, at the 2017 June Sale after working a quarter in :21 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch her under tack video

OBS graduates posted four stakes wins at Gulfstream Park on Saturday.

Oscar Diaz’s Mishegas was much the best in the $77,500 Invitational Cup Stakes, taking over on the far turn and drawing off to a 10-1/4 length victory although well in hand in the final yards. The 5-year-old gelding by Include, a multiple graded stakes winner in Puerto Rico, is trained by Jose D. Velez and has compiled a 31-11-4-5 career record and earned $375,316. Monarch Stables’ Bye Bye J tried stakes company for the first time in Saturday’s $75,000 House Party Stakes. She tracked the leader into the stretch, took over a furlong from home and eased away to a two length victory. The 2-year-old daughter of Uncaptured was sold for $21,000 by Perrone Sales, Ltd., Agent for McDowell Farm, at the 2017 OBS Winter Mixed Sale. Trained by Ron Spatz, she’s now 3-2-0-1 and has earned $73,105 to date.

Bloom Racing Stable’s graded stakes placed Henley’s Joy relaxed off the pace in the early going of the $75,000 Pulpit Stakes, moved to the leaders at the top of the stretch, took command leaving the eighth pole and drew off to a 4-1/2 length victory. It’s the second stakes win for the 2-year-old colt by Kitten’s Joy, now 5-3-1-0 with $352,960 in earnings for trainer Mike Maker.
