OBS graduates posted three stakes wins at Tampa Bay Downs on Saturday.
Michael Dubb, Madaket Stables LLC and Bethlehem Stables LLC’s World of Trouble was much the best in the $125,000 FTBOA Marion County Sire Stakes, leading every step of the way and scoring by 13-3/4 lengths over seven overmatched rivals. It’s the fourth stakes win for the 3-year-old grade one stakes placed Florida-bred colt by Kantharos, second to OBS graduate Stormy Liberal (June ’14) in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) in his previous start. Now 9-5-2-1 with $578,400 in earnings for trainer Jason Servis, he was consigned by Darsan Inc., Agent, and went through the ring at the 2016 OBS August Yearling Sale.
Richlyn Farms’ Silver Bay led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of the $125,000 FTBOA City of Ocala Sire Stakes, rallying on the outside to reach contention in the stretch and closing well to beat Broadway Run (April ’17) by a neck, with Catoria (January ’16) another neck back in third. That’s two stakes wins for the 3-year-old Florida-bred filly by Currency Swap, trained by William Hickey, now 7-3-1-0 with $161,983 in earnings. She’s a two-time OBS graduate, sold by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent at the 2015 Fall Mixed Sale then resold for $47,000 by Woodside Ranch, Agent, at the 2017 June Sale after working a quarter in :21 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch her under tack video
Jaime Mejia’s Gladiator King pressed the pace in the $100,000 Inaugural Stakes, took command turning for home and drew away late to beat fellow OBS graduate Mercusio (June ’18, Janaury ’18) by three lengths. It’s the first stakes win for the 2-year-old son of Curlin, consigned to the 2018 June Sale by Thoroughbred Champions Training Center LLC where the turned in an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5. Trained by his owner, he’s now 6-3-1-0 and has earned $91,300. watch his under tack video
