2022 OBS March Sale Under Tack Show Concludes

On the final day of a weather-delayed breeze show, the workouts were uninterrupted to wrap up the 2022 OBS March Under Tack show.

Three horses shared the co-fastest quarter-mile work of 20 4/5:

Series Star, hip 446, a dark bay/brown Violence colt out of graded stakes winner Freedom Star, by Street Cry (IRE), is consigned to the sale by Eddie Woods as agent.
Hip 456 is a bay colt by first-season sire Awesome Slew out of the Into Mischief mare, Genau. From the family of graded stakes winning millionaire and OBS March grad Western Pride, he is consigned to the sale by Ocala Stud.
Hip 521, a bay colt by Into Mischief consigned by Golden Rock Thoroughbreds as agent, is out of the Street Cry (IRE) mare Jellicle Song, herself out of the Grade 1 winning millionaire, Precious Kitten.

Five horses shared the second fastest quarter time of 21 flat:

Hip 461, a gray/roan Frosted colt consigned by Golden Rock Thoroughbreds as agent is out of Ginza, a full to multimillionaire, Breeders’ Cup winner and OBS graduate Stephanie’s Kitten.
Hip 530 is a bay Practical Joke colt out of the Medaglia d’Oro mare, Juliette Ava, herself a half to Grade 1 winner, Siphonic. He is consigned by Eddie Woods as agent.
Hip 542, a bay Medaglia d’Oro colt, is out of graded stakes placed stakes winner, Kelly’s Humor, by Midnight Lute. He is also consigned by Eddie Woods as agent.
Hip 548, a bay colt by West Coast out of Kimono, by Flatter, is a half to stakes winner Keke Kimono. He is again consigned by Eddie Woods as agent.
Hip 604, a bay colt by Speightster is out of Manitou Moon, by Shanghai Bobby. The mare is a half-sister to stakes winner Fierce Lady and the colt is consigned by Pick View as agent.

Six horses tied for the fastest furlong in 9 4/5:

Hip 437, Mor Speed, a chestnut colt by freshman sire Mor Spirit was the first to break the 10-second barrier today. He is out of the winning Indian Charlie mare, Follow My Tail, a daughter of group stakes winner Freefourracing.
Hip 438, a dark bay/brown Bolt d’Oro colt consigned by Top Line Sales LLC as agent, is out of Foolish Cause, by Giant’s Causeway, herself a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 winning millionaire Get Stormy. The colt is a half to stakes winner Foolish Humor.
Hip 534, a chestnut filly by Midshipman out of the Tapit mare Kalistoga Girl, who is out of stakes winner Calendar Girl. She is consigned to the sale by Cruzin’ Thoroughbreds as agent.

Adios Charlie Filly Fastest at Second OBS March Under Tack Session

An extended Under Tack session was held today to incorporate additional hips from the weather-abbreviated session yesterday.

The fastest quarter-mile work of 20 2/5 was produced by hip 213. Consigned by Ocala Stud as agent, the bay filly by Adios Charlie is out of multiple stakes winner Travelator, by A. P Jet. The filly has a new stakes-winning half-brother since the catalog, Hollywood Jet.

The second fastest quarter of 20 3/5 was shared by 3 horses.

Hip 243 is a chestnut filly by Tapiture out of Whisp o’ Spring, by Da Stoops. From the Golden Rock Thoroughbreds consignment, she hails from the family of champion Davona Dale.
Hip 272 is a bay Runhappy colt out of multiple stakes winner Annihilation, by Northern Afleet. He is consigned to the sale by Randy Miles as agent.
Hip 346, consigned by Ocala Stud as agent, the dark bay/brown filly by Peace and Justice is out of the winning Arch mare, Celtic Arch and a ¾ sister to graded stakes placed En Wye Cee.

Eight horses shared the co-fastest furlong of 9 4/5 seconds during the second session of the March Sale Under Tack Show.

The start time of the sale session on Tuesday, March 15 will be moved to 1pm in order to accommodate buyers’ inspections.

The Wednesday, March 16 session will remain at 10:30am.

With rain forcing the last set of the under tack show to be postponed until tomorrow, Hip 139, a dark bay/brown colt by Bayern turned in an 1/8 mile work in 9 3/5 to post the fastest work at the distance of the first day of the under tack show for the 2022 OBS March Sale of two year olds. Consigned by Really and Truly Thoroughbreds as agent, he’s out of the Pioneerof the Nile mare Sophia Mia, a daughter of multiple graded stakes placed stakes winner Amie’s Dini.

The fastest ¼ mile work of 20 3/5 was turned in by Hip 177 a Good Samaritan colt consigned by Pick View as agent. He’s out of Sweat and Saddle, by Speightstown, a daughter of graded stakes winner Well Monied

March Sale Under Tack Show begins Thursday

The Under Tack Show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2022 March Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training begins Thursday, March 10^th.

There are three sessions, with Hips 1 – 212 breezing on the first day. Hips 213 – 424 will go Friday, March 11^th and Hips 425 – 635 will go Saturday, March 12^th. All three sessions will begin at 8:00 a.m. The Under Tack Show and Sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the DRF, TDN, Blood-Horse and Past The Wire websites.

A total of 635 juveniles are cataloged for the two-day sale, set for Tuesday and Wednesday, March 15^th and 16^th, with both sessions beginning at 10:30 a.m. Hips 1 – 316 will sell on Tuesday; Hips 317 – 635 on Wednesday.

The March Sale has a rich history of producing top class racehorses. Eclipse Award winners Forever Together, Stardom Bound and Midnight Lute are pictured on the catalog’s front cover, with champions Fleet Indian and Lost in the Fog joined by Japanese champion Asia Express on the back cover.

OBS March has produced 32 horses who have earned over a million dollars. The active millionaire roster is headed by Koichi Nishikawa’s Japanese star Café Pharoah, winner of the $2-million February Stakes for the second straight year. A four-time graded stakes winner, the 5-year-old son of American Pharoah was consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, to the 2019 OBS March Sale, and sold for $475,000 to Narvick International, Agent, after breezing an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5. For the past year, OBS March graduates have continued to excel at the races. Since the beginning of 2021, 116 March graduates were on the board 203 times in stakes races, with 44 horses winning 65 black-type events. In graded stakes, 37 March grads won or placed 52 times with 14 horses accounting for 21 graded victories.

A trio of 2021 March graduates have made news recently headed by Baoma Corporation’s Eda, who scored her fourth straight stakes win in the Santa Ysabel Stakes (G3) on Sunday at Santa Anita. Consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, she was purchased for $550,000 by Donato Lanni, Agent, after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. C2 Racing Stable LLC and La Milagrosa Stable, LLC’s White Abarrio is a factor on the Derby Trail after his victory in Gulfstream’s Holy Bull Stakes (G3). A 3-year-old colt by Race Day, he’s trained by Saffie A. Joseph, Jr., and is now 4-3-0-1 with $240,850 in earnings. Peter L. Cantrell’s Call Me Midnight was an upset winner of the Lecomte Stakes (G3) at the Fair Grounds.. March Sale graduate Eda takes Santa Anita’s Santa Ysabel Stakes

Baoma Corporation’s Eda shot right to the lead at the start of Sunday’s $101,500 Santa Ysabel Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita, turned back a challenge from the inside turning for home, then held off a late charge by stablemate Under the Stars and scored by half a length. That’s four straight stakes wins for the 3-year-old filly by Munnings, winner of the Starlet Stakes (G1) last time out in December. A pair of OBS April graduates won graded stakes at Gulfstream on Saturday.

Winngate Stables LLC’s unbeaten Kathleen O. is three for three and a graded stakes winner after a two length victory in the $200,000 Davona Dale Stakes (G2). The 3-year-old daughter of Upstart trailed early, waited behind a wall of horses at the head of the stretch, rallied to take command inside the final furlong and was going away at the wire. 2021 OBS March graduate Cocktail Moments ran well late to finish third. A two-time OBS graduate, Kathleen O was sold by Stuart Morris at the 2020 Fall Mixed Sale, then purchased for $275,000 out of the Niall Brennan Stables consignment at the 2021 Spring Sale after working an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5. Paradise Farms Corp. and David Staudacher’s Temple tracked the leaders in the early going of the $200,000 Mac Diarmida Stakes (G2), took the lead on the turn for home and was best by a length at the wire. Fellow OBS graduate Media Blitz (April ’19) checked in third. It’s the first graded stakes win for the 6-year-old son of Temple City, trained by Mike Maker, now 34-7-8-7 with $598,563 in earnings. Elle Z scores in the Mardi Gras Stakes at Fair Grounds

M Bar O LLC’s Elle Z took the lead at the start of the $75,000 Mardi Gras Stakes at Fair Grounds on Tuesday and never looked back, successfully defending her title with a victory by length and a quarter. Fellow OBS graduate Change of Control (October ’17) rallied for third. It’s the third straight stakes win for the 5-year-old daughter of City Zip, who went through the ring at the 2019 OBS June Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :9 4/5. Breeze Rider takes Turfway’s Wintergreen Stakes

Mike Piazza Racing Stable LLC’s Breeze Rider pressed the pace in the $100,000 Wintergreen Stakes on Saturday at Turfway Park, took over after turning for home and drew away down the stretch to score by 5-1/2 lengths. It’s the second straight stakes win for the 5-year-old daughter of Paynter, consigned by SBM Training & Sales to the 2019 OBS June Sale and sold for $30,000 after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. Jeremy Ramsland’s Miss Hard Knocks rated just off the pace in Sunday’s $75,000 Island Fashion Stakes at Sunland Park, rallied four wide to reach contention on the turn, took the lead a furlong from home and was best by a length and a half. That’s two straight stakes wins for the 3-year-old daughter of Mr Speaker, trained by Bart Hone, leaving her with a 5-3-1-1 record and earnings of $104,670. Ellen Epstein’s Vodka Gimlet posted his second straight stakes victory on Saturday at Delta Downs, taking the $75,000 Big Drama Stakes. The 3-year-old son of OBS graduate Goldencents moved to contention on the turn, waited for room to run, came out for the drive and was up late to win by a neck. Emblem Road, Country Grammer one-two in G1 Saudi Cup

OBS Spring Sale graduates finished one-two in the $20-million Saudi Cup (G1) on Saturday.

Prince Saud Bin Salman Abdulaziz’s Emblem Road, turned in a powerful stretch run on the outside to catch fellow OBS graduate Country Grammer (April ’19) in the shadow of the wire and score by half a length. It’s the third stakes win for the 4-year-old colt by Quality Road, trained by Mitab Almulawah, now 9-7-1-1 and the latest OBS millionaire with earnings of $10,204,734. OBS March Sale graduates posted a pair of stakes wins on Saturday.

Koichi Nishikawa’s Cafe Pharoah became just the second horse to successfully defend his title in the $2,254,000 February Stakes (G1) at Tokyo Racecourse. He went after the leaders turning for home, took command a furlong out and drew off to win by 2-1/2 lengths in a track record equaling 1:33.8 for the 1.600 meters. It’s the fourth graded stakes win for the 5-year-old son of American Pharoah, consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, to the 2019 OBS March Sale, where he was sold for $475,000 to Narvick International, Agent, after breezing an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5. KHK Racing’s unbeaten Shahama is now four for four and a graded stakes winner after scoring by two lengths in the $150,000 UAE Oaks (G3) on Friday at Meydan. Trailing in the early going, the 3-year-old daughter of Munnings rallied to take charge a quarter mile out and was best by two lengths at the wire. The half sister to champion Lookin At Lucky, trained by Fawzi Nass, has earned $223,760 to date and may be headed to the Kentucky Oaks (G1) in May. OBS grads posted a pair of stakes wins at Gulfstream Park and one at Tampa Bay on Saturday.

Golden Kernel Racing Stable’s Yes I Am Free tracked the pace in the $100,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint Stakes (G3), took the lead after straightening away in the stretch and drew off to win by 3-1/2 lengths. It’s the second stakes victory for the 6-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Uncaptured, purchased for $135,000 out of the Hawk’s Nest LLC consignment at the 2018 OBS June Sale after speeding an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5.
