Hip No. 614, a son of Midshipman consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, went to Hartley / DeRenzo Thoroughbreds LLC for $70,000 to top the second and final Open session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2013 August Yearling Sale. The chestnut colt is out of Ghostly Fast, by Ghostzapper, a daughter of stakes winner Jena Jena.
Hip No. 515, consigned by Red Sunset Farm, Agent, is a son of Wildcat Heir sold to Journeyman Bloodstock, Agent, for $65,000. The dark bay or brown colt, out of stakes placed Clandestine, by Grand Slam, is a half brother to stakes winner Jossy Do It.
Hip No. 541, Yes Indeed, a son of Kantharos consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, was also sold for $65,000, going to Albert Davis. The bay colt, out of Deed, by Exploit, is a half brother to stakes placed Ek Haseena.
Hip No. 768, a gray or roan colt by Kantharos also consigned by Summerfield, was sold to Hubert Guy Bloodstock for $63,000. He’s out of Miss Skeetd, by Cloud Hopping, a half sister to graded stakes winner Rizzi Girl.
Nick de Meric, Agent, went to $60,000 for Hip No. 820, a bay colt by D’wildcat consigned by Summerfield. He’s out of Perfect Empire, by Empire Maker, from the family of grade one winner Possibly Perfect.
Another son of Kantharos, Hip No. 527, consigned by Perrone Sales, Ltd., Agent, went to Nick de Meric, Agent, for $55,000. The bay colt is out of Courtly Choice, by Doneraile Court, a half sister to stakes placed Let’s Get Crackin.
Hip No. 620, a daughter of Colonel John consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent also brought $55,000, going to Crupi’s New Castle Farm. The bay filly, a half sister to graded stakes winner Spring Meadow, is out of Go for It Lady, by Mr. Prospector.
For the session, 236 horses grossed $3,797,600, compared with 194 selling for a total of $2,176,900 at the corresponding session last year. The average price was $16,092, up 43.4% from $11,221 in 2012 while the median price rose 46.9% from $8,000 a year ago to $11,750. The buyback percentage was 17.8%; it was 21.1% last year.
For the two Open sessions, 503 horses sold for a total of $8,418,200, compared with 405 grossing $5,092,500 a year ago. The average price was an Open Yearling Sale record $16,736, up 33.1% from $12,574 in 2012 and surpassing the previous mark of $12,758 set in 2004. The median price was a sale record $13,000, up 52.9% from last year’s record $8,500. The buyback percentage was 14.6% it was 20.3% in 2012. Twenty two horses sold for $50,000 or more compared with eleven last year.
At Tuesday’s Selected session, 143 horses sold for a total of $7,705,000 compared with 132 grossing $5,782,000 at the 2012 Selected Yearling Sale. The average price was $53,881, up 23% from $43,803 last year while the median price was $42,000, a gain of 20% compared with $35,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 13.3%; it was 25.8% in 2012. Twelve horses sold for $100,000 or more compared with six at last year’s sale.
Next on the OBS agenda is the Fall Mixed Sale, scheduled for Tuesday, October 15th and Wednesday, October 16th.
Alto Racing LLC’s Peace Preserver was the longest shot on the board in Saturday’s $200, 000 Noble Damsel Stakes (G3) at Belmont Park, but after trailing into the final eighth, she ran by all five rivals and scored her first graded stakes win by half a length. Sent off at 16-1, the 4-year-old daughter of War Front now has two stakes wins, a 16-5-5-3 record and $382,166 in earnings.
