Flurry Racing Stables LLC’s Mr. Misundertood scored his second straight stakes win on Sunday at Ellis Park, tracking the early leaders in the $100,000 Kentucky Downs Preview Tourist Mile Stakes before wearing them down late to win by a length and a quarter. That’s six stakes victories for the 4-year-old graded stakes winning gelding by Archarcharch, purchased for $130,000 out of the Woodford Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2016 OBS March Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. Juddmonte Farms’ Golden Mischief pressed the pace down the backstretch of Saturday’s $75,000 West Virginia Secretary of State Stakes at Mountaineer Park, shook loose turning for home and drew away to a 7-1/4 length victory. It’s the sixth stakes win for the 4-year-old daughter of Into Mischief, trained by Brad Cox, now 20-9-3-0 with $518,150 in earnings. Steve Landers Racing LLC’s Big Changes also enjoyed the day at Mountaineer, taking charge of the $75,000 West Virginia House of Delegates Speakers Stakes in the stretch and easing away to a 3-1/2 length victory, with fellow OBS graduate Runaway Posse (April ’13) checking in third. The 6-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Midshipman is a two-time OBS graduate sold by Crowe’s Nest Farm at the 2013 Winter Mixed Sale and then purchased by Steve Landers for $170,000 out of the Pick View LLC consignment at the 2014 April Sale after breezing an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5. Susan Moultan’s lightly raced Altamura ran off her third stakes victory in a row, making the pace in the $75,000 Camptown Stakes at Laurel on Saturday before opening up daylight at the eighth pole and hanging on gamely by a length and a quarter. Ivery Sisters Racing’s Monte Man made it four straight stakes wins on Saturday at Louisiana Downs, setting the pace in the $60,000 Louisiana Cup Sprint Stakes, surrendering the lead in mid-stretch, and then coming again to get up at the wire and win by a neck. The 5-year-old gelding by Custom for Carlos, trained by Ron Fauncheux, is now 27-9-4-3 and has earned $343,055 to date. Karl Pergola’s K P Wildcat circled her field from far back on the turn in Saturday’s $55,000 Albuquerque Distaff Handicap, surged to the lead a furlong from home and drew off late to win by three lengths. McShane Racing LLC’s Go On Mary took the lead at the start of Friday’s $103,380 Daisycutter Handicap at Del Mar and refused to yield, holding off fellow OBS graduate Okinawa (April ’16) down the stretch and scoring by half a length. It’s the first stakes win for the 4-year-old daughter of Broken Vow, who turned in an Under Tack quarter in :21 4/5 before she was purchased for $40,000 out of the Ocala Stud consignment at the 2016 OBS April Sale. Gary Barber’s Wonder Gadot has two legs up on the Canadian Triple Crown after a dominating victory in the $400,000 Prince of Wales Stakes against the boys at Ft. Erie on Tuesday. Switching tactics in the sloppy going, she went right to the lead at the start, set the pace and drew off down the stretch to a 5-3/4 length victory. It’s the fourth stakes win for the 3-year-old graded stakes winning millionaire daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, winner of the Demoiselle (G2) and Mazarine (G3) at two, who gave division leader Monomoy Girl a battle in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) in May. She can complete Canada’s Triple Crown with a win in the Breeders’ Stakes on the turf at Woodbine in August. Since the juvenile class of 2018 began racing in April, OBS graduates have made their presence felt from coast to coast, with 50 OBS graduates leaving the maiden ranks in special weight company.

OBS graduate juveniles have already posted a pair of stakes victories, with Pines Stables, John J. Irwin, Paul Zysset and Sam F. Arci’s Maiden Beauty capturing the recent Lynnbrook Stakes (go to the story) at Belmont and Breeze Easy LLC’s Shang Shang Shang beating the boys in the Norfolk Stakes (G2) at Royal Ascot. Racing’s spotlight now shifts to Saratoga, where the accent is always on 2-year-old racing, and the most promising newcomers are often unveiled.

A trio of OBS graduates will go in Friday’s six furlong $150,000 Schuylerville Stakes (G3) on opening day at Saratoga. Trainer Mark Casse sends out John C. Oxley’s Catherinethegreat and Gary Barber’s Eyeinthesky, joined by Charles L. Biggs’ Congrats Gal, saddled by Cathal Lynch.    

Catherinethegreat comes into the Schuylerville off a 10-1/4 length romp in a five furlong maiden special weight dash at Gulfstream on June 22^nd. The daughter of Uncaptured, who also raced in Mr. Oxleys’ colors, topped the 2017 OBS October Open Sale of Yearlings, purchased for $170,000 out of the Turtle Pond Farm consignment.

Eyeinthesky broke her maiden at first asking at Churchill Downs in May and was third, beaten just three quarters of a length in the Astoria Stakes at Belmont in her only other start. Steve Asmussen sends Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC & Willis Horton Racing LLC’s Bano Solo into the Sanford off a frontrunning three length victory in his debut on June 23^rd at Churchill Downs. The 2-year-old colt is a son of back to back Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) winning OBS graduate Goldencents. OBS graduates made themselves right at home at Indiana Grand Race Course on Saturday, capturing both the Indiana Derby (G3) and Indiana Oaks (G3).

Slam Dunk Racing’s Axelrod was well off the pace in the early going of the $500,000 Indiana Derby (G3) but swept into contention on the turn and then closed steadily down the stretch and was up at the wire to win by a head. It’s the first stakes victory for the 3-year-old Florida-bred son of Warrior’s Reward, second last time out in the Affirmed Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita. Trained by Mike McCarthy, he’s now 8-3-1-1 and has earned $360,925. Consigned by Bobby Jones Equine to the 2016 OBS Winter Mixed Sale, he was sold to Slam Dunk for $25,000.

Team Valor International, Rodolphe Brisset and Stephen McKay’s Talk Veuve to Me was an overwhelming favorite in the $200,000 Indiana Oaks off her second in the Acorn (G1) in June and did not disappoint, taking over under a hold on the turn and galloping to an easy 4-3/4 length victory. Fellow OBS graduate Kelly’s Humor (August ’16) checked in third. It’s the first stakes score for the 3-year-old daughter of Violence, consigned by RiceHorse Stables, Agent, to the 2017 OBS March Sales where she turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. A. Hill Stable’s Majestic Dunhill is two for two this year after leading a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of Monmouth’s $63,300 My Frenchman Stakes on Saturday. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old gelding by Majesticperfection, who shook loose from traffic in the stretch to outfinish fellow OBS graduate Like What I See (October ’15) by a length and a half with Reed Kan (August ’16) a neck back in third. William and Corrine Heiligbrodt’s Atchata is two for three and a stakes winner after taking the lead at the start of the filly division of the $75,000 D.S. Shine Young Futurity on Friday night at Evangeline Downs and never looking back en route to a 6-1/2 length victory. The 2-year-old filly by Apriority is now 3-2-0-1 for trainer Steve Asmussen and has earned $100,000 to date.
