June Sale catalog now online

The catalog for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2019 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age is now available via the OBS website at obssales.com.

There are 997 two-year-olds and 17 older horses cataloged for the three-day sale, with all sessions beginning at 10:00 a.m. Hip No.’s 1 – 360 will sell on Wednesday, June 12^th; Hip No.’s 361 – 720 will be offered on Thursday, June 13^th and Hip No.’s 721 – 1014 plus supplements will sell on Friday, June 14^th. Supplemental entries are being accepted until May 22^nd.

There are five Under Tack Sessions. Hip No.’s 1 – 216 will go to the track on Wednesday, June 5^th, Hip No.’s 217 – 432 will work on Thursday, June 6^th, Hip No.’s 433 – 648 will breeze on Friday, June 7^th, Hip No.’s 649 – 864 work on Saturday, June 8^th, and 865 – 1014 plus supplements will go on Sunday, June 9^th. All Under Tack sessions begin at 7:30 a.m.

The Under Tack Show and Sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the DRF, TDN and BloodHorse websites.

June Sale graduates continue to compete successfully at the racing’s highest levels. Since the beginning of 2018, June grads won or placed 163 times in stakes races, a rate of better than two a week.

During this time, the June Sale’s brightest star has been Rockingham Ranch and David A. Bernsen LLC’s ’s Stormy Liberal, back to back winner of the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) and 2018’s Eclipse Award winner as champion turf male. The now 7-year-old son of Stormy Atlantic, trained by Peter Miller, has won or placed in eleven graded stakes, compiled a 33-12-10-2 career record and earned over $2.1-million to date. They don’t come much tougher than Charles Fipke’s grade one winner Seeking the Soul, consigned by McKathan Bros., Agent, to the 2015 Sale, where he went through the ring after breezing an Under Tack eighth :10 1/5. Trained by Dallas Stewart, the 6-year-old son of Perfect Soul (IRE) has won or placed in 19 of 26 starts and earned just over $2.9-million. watch his under tack video

A graduate of last year’s June Sale, Peter Redekop‘s El Camino Real Derby winner Anothertwistafate is pointing for the Preakness. The 3-year-old colt by Scat Daddy, second in the Sunland Park Derby and second in the recent Lexington Stakes (G3) at Keeneland, has been first or second in five of six starts and has earned $303,505 for trainer Blaine Wright. He was purchased for $360,000 out of the Wavertree Stables consignment after breezing an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

June Sale graduates in the headlines include Thoroughbred Champions Training Center LLC’s Gladiator King and Hronis Racing LLC’s St. Joe Bay.

Gladiator King’s last two starts produced two stakes victories, the first a score in Gulfstream’s Hutcheson Stakes (G3) in March. The 3-year-old colt by Curlin, trained by Jaime Mejia, is now 13-5-1-1 with $216,535 in earnings. He sped an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5 before going through the ring at the 2018 Sale. watch his under tack video

St. Joe Bay has been earning his living of late in the always tough sprint division in California, his last start a victory in the San Carlos Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita. It was the third graded stakes win for the 7-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Saint Anddan, trained by John Sadler, leaving him with a 36-7-7-6 record and $734,515 in earnings. He’s a two time OBS graduate, consigned by Bobby Jones Equine LLC, Agent to the 2013 Winter Mixed Sale and then purchased for $60,000 out of the Bobby Dodd consignment at the 2014 Sale after an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. watch his under tack video

Mitole takes the Churchill Downs Stakes

William & Corrine Heiligbrodt’s Mitole sat just off the lead in Saturday’s $500,000 Churchill Downs Stakes (G1) on the Derby undercard, took command in the final furlong and drew away late to a 3-1/2 length victory. It’s the sixth straight win for the 4-year-old colt by Eskendereya, purchased for $140,000 out of the Grassroots Training & Sales consignment at the 2017 OBS April Sale after an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. Alex and JoAnn Lieblong’s Laughing Fox relaxed well off the pace in the $300,000 Oaklawn Invitational Stakes on Saturday, came around horses to reach contention in the stretch and was up in the final yards to win by a neck. Fellow OBS graduate Proverb (April ’18) checked in third. It’s the first stakes victory for the 3-year-old colt by Union Rags, also trained by Steve Asmussen, now 7-3-0-0 with $338,518 in earnings. He was purchased for $375,000 by the Lieblongs from Harris Training Center LLC, Agent, at the 2018 OBS March Sale after an eighth in :10 2/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

William Stiritz’s Wildwood’s Beauty led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of the $100,000 FTBOA Ivanavinalot Florida Sire Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs on Saturday, taking charge on the turn and drawing away in the lane to a 3-3/4 length victory over Jolie Bay (October ’17), with Starship Nala (January ’17) half a length back in third. It’s the second straight stakes win for the 3-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Kantharos, consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, to the 2017 October Yearling Sale, and purchased by Mr. Stiritz for $47,000. Now 6-3-3-0 for trainer Scott Becker, she has earned $194,340.

David Melin, Leon Ellman and Laurie Plesa’s Vow Me Now found room between horses in the stretch of Saturday’s $75,000 English Channel Stakes at Gulfstream Park, battled fellow OBS graduate Art G is Back (April ’18) to the wire and was best by a nose. Stirling Drive (April ’18) was third, completing the OBS trifecta. It’s the fourth straight win and first stakes score for the 3-year-old colt by Broken Vow, who went through the ring at the 2018 March Sale before he was purchased for $50,000 out of the Halcyon Hammock Farm consignment at the 2018 OBS June Sale after breezing three eighths in :32 4/5 at the Under Tack Show. World of Trouble a millionaire after taking Churchill’s Twin Spires Turf Sprint

Michael Dubb, Madaket Stables LLC and Bethlehem Stables LLC’s World of Trouble went right to the front in Churchill’s $250,000 Twin Spires Turf Sprint Stakes (G2) on Oaks Day and never looked back, drawing away in the stretch and scoring a 3-3/4 length victory. It’s the fourth straight stakes win for the grade one stakes winning 4-year-old Florida-bred colt by Kantharos, trained by Jason Servis, now 12-8-2-1 with $1,043,300 in earnings. Consigned by Darsan Inc., Agent, he went through the ring at the 2016 OBS August Yearling Sale.

Neptune’s Storm scores in Santa Anita’s Singletary Stakes

Cybertec International Inc., Saul Gevertz, Lynn Gitomer, Mike Goetz and Daniel Weiner’s Neptune’s Storm pressed the pace in the $100,702 Singletary Stakes on Sunday at Santa Anita, took charge turning for home and fought off two rivals to score by three quarters of a length. It’s the first stakes victory for the 3-year-old Stormy Atlantic gelding, purchased for $130,000 out of the Eddie Woods consignment at the 2018 OBS April Sale after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5. Auerbach LLC, Ciaglia Racing LLC and Little Red Feather Racing’s The Hunted tried stakes company for the first time in Santa Anita’s $100,702 Crystal Water Stakes on Saturday, rallied wide to reach contention turning for home and then sustained his run to get up late and score by a length. The 4-year-old gelding by Unusual Heat, also trained by Richard Baltas, is now 10-3-1-2 and has earned $155,829. A pair of 2019 OBS March graduates provided early returns at the races this past week.

Karl & Cathi Glassman’s Absolute Grit moved on the turn to reach contention turning for home in his debut in a 4-1/2 furlong $65,000 Maiden Special Weight dash at Gulfstream on Friday, then came running late and edged away to score by half a length. The 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by Kantharos, trained by Eddie Plesa, Jr., earned $43,000 for 51.69 seconds of work. Breeze Easy LLC’s Anna’s Fast also won at first asking, taking the lead at the start in a 4-1/2 furlong 460,000 Maiden Special Weight test on Wednesday at Keeneland and never looking back, romping to an effortless 5-1/2 length victory. $1.3-million Into Mischief colt tops record Spring Sale’s final session

Hip No. 1165, a son of Into Mischief consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, went to Team Casse, Agent, for $1.3-million to top the fourth and final session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2019 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. The bay colt, the entire sale’s highest priced offering, is out of Dixie Song, by Fusaichi Pegasus, a half sister to the dam of grade one winner By the Moon. Hip No. 1066, a son of Candy Ride (ARG) consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, was sold to Steven W. Young, Agent, for $975,000. The bay colt, who breezed an eighth :10 flat at Sunday’s Under Tack session, is out of graded stakes placed stakes winner Citizen Advocate, by Proud Citizen.

Stonestreet Stables LLC went to $825,000 for Hip No. 1111, a dark bay or brown filly by Medaglia d’Oro consigned by Sequel Bloodstock, Agent. The half sister to grade one stakes placed stakes winner Bajan, whose eighth in :9 4/5 was co-fastest at the distance on Sunday, is out of stakes placed Critikal Reason, by Aptitude.

Hip No. 1112, a daughter of Cairo Prince consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, was sold for $525,000 to Gold Square LLC. The dark bay or brown filly, who breezed a quarter in :21 flat on Sunday, is a half sister to stakes winner Perfect Wife out of Crozat, by Street Sense, a half sister to graded stakes winner Jungle Prince.

Maverick Racing paid $500,000 for Hip No. 1178, a son of American Pharoah consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent. The bay colt, who turned in an eighth in :10 2/5 on Sunday, is out of graded stakes winner Dundalk Dust, by Military, a half sister to stakes winner Luv Bandit.

Hip No. 919, a son of Pioneerof the Nile consigned by Brick City Thoroughbreds, went to Team Casse, Agent for $460,000. Dennis O’Neill went to $375,000 for Hip No. 1214, a son of Flatter consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent, whose eighth in :9 4/5 on Sunday was co-fastest at the distance. Red Oak Farm, Inc. paid $250,000 for Hip No. 960, a dark bay or brown colt by Violence who worked an eighth in :10 flat on Sunday. Consigned by Randy Miles, Agent, he’s out of champion Bear Now, by Tiznow, a daughter of graded stakes placed stakes winner Controlled.

For the day, 151 horses brought a total of $16,648,000 compared with 159 selling for a total of $16,934,500 last year. The average price was $110,252 compared to $106,506 in 2018, while the median price was $52,000 compared to $50,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 24.5%; it was 21.3% in 2018.

For the entire sale, 675 horses sold for a sale record $73,287,000 eclipsing the previous mark of $68,541,500 set a year ago. The average price was a record $108,573, bettering last year’s record $98,197. The median was a record $60,000, topping 2018’s record $55,000. The buyback percentage was 19.6%; it was 18.9% a year ago. Sixteen horses sold for $500,000 or more compared with fourteen a year ago.

$1.2-million Liam’s Map colt tops Spring Sale’s third session

(Ciaran Dunne), Agent, was purchased by Robert E. & Lawana Low for $1,200,000 to top the third session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2019 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. Out of Amazement, by Bernardini, a daughter of grade one stakes winner Wonder Again, he turned in a quarter in :20 4/5 at Thursday’s Under Tack session. sale video

Hip No. 787, a daughter of Into Mischief consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, went to Phoenix Thoroughbred (III) Ltd. for $750,000. The bay filly, who worked a quarter in :21 1/5 on Thursday, is a half sister to stakes placed Divisor out of Unbridled Ridge, by Unbridled’s Song.

Hip No. 789, a bay colt by Ghostzapper consigned by Julie Davies LLC, Agent, was purchased by Stetson Racing LLC for $600,000. The half brother to graded stakes placed Investissement, who worked an eighth in :9 4/5 on Thursday, is out of graded stakes placed Underwater, by Theatrical (IRE).

Stonestreet Stables LLC went to $535,000 for Hip No. 856, a son of Street Boss who worked a quarter in :20 4/5 on Thursday. Consigned by Ocala Stud, the dark bay or brown colt is out of Woodland Park, by Bernardini, a daughter of graded stakes winner Forest Heiress.

Hip No. 760, a son of Twirling Candy consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, was sold to Sheikh Rashid Humaid Al Noaimi for $500,000. The bay colt, who worked a quarter in :20 4/5 on Thursday, is out of Tough Market, by Suave, a half sister to stakes winner Law Enforcement.

Hip No. 847, a bay filly by Bernardini consigned by Randy Bradshaw, Agent, went to Narvick International for $500,000. The half sister to grade one winner Stormello, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat on Thursday, is out of Wilshewed, by Carson City.

Hip No. 818, a bay colt by Medaglia d’Oro who breezed a quarter on Thursday in :21 1/5, was purchased for $480,000 by Alistair Roden Bloodstock. Hip No. 889, a dark bay or brown filly by Tale of the Cat consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, was sold to B S W Bloodstock – Liz Crow, Agent, for $420,000. Out of Allons Danser, by Eskendereya, a half sister to stakes placed Southern Truth, she breezed an eighth in :10 flat on Thursday.

Hip No. 810, a daughter of American Pharoah who breezed an eighth in: 10 1/5 on Thursday, went to Steven W. Young, Agent, for $350,000. The bay filly, consigned by Hartley / DeRenzo Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, is out of Visions of Annette, by Distorted Humor, a half sister to graded stakes placed stakes winner Saucy Evening.

Hip No. 906, a dark bay or brown colt by Temple City consigned by Paul Sharp, Agent, was sold to Ed Plesa, Agent for Karl & Cathi Glassman, for $325,000. Out of stakes placed Anahauc, by Henny Hughes, a half sister to stakes winner Gangbuster, he turned in an Under Tack eighth on Thursday in :10 flat.

Timothy Hills, Agent for Sea Gull Capital, went to $300,000 for Hip No. 729, a bay colt by The Factor consigned by Off the Hook LLC, Agent. The half brother to stakes winner Planchart, who worked an eighth in :10 flat on Thursday, is out of graded stakes placed Tarrip, by Green Desert.

Hip No. 725, a daughter of American Pharoah consigned by Hartley / DeRenzo Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, was sold to Tom Durant for $275,000. The chestnut filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 on Thursday, is out of Tap of the Day, by Pulpit, a full sister to grade one winner and leading sire Tapit.

Hip No. 895, a daughter of City Zip consigned by Scanlon Training & Sales, Agent, went to Narvick International for $275,000. The chestnut filly, who worked an eighth in:10 flat on Thursday, a half sister to stakes placed Reversethedecision, is out of Alpha Centauri, by Dynaformer.

Hip No. 708, a daughter of Curlin consigned by Paul Sharp, Agent, was sold to Belladonna Racing LLC for $250,000. The bay filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 on Thursday, is out of Surprises Welcomed, by Storm Cat, a daughter of graded stakes winner Welcome Surprise.

Jay Em Ess Stable went to $250,000 for Hip No. 841, a daughter of Twirling Candy consigned by Robert Brewer, Agent. The bay filly, who breezed an eighth on Thursday in :10 flat, is out of Wild About Sonny, by Officer, a half sister to stakes winner My Due Process.

For the day, 160 horses brought a total of $17,789,000 compared with 180 grossing $16,224,500 at the corresponding session a year ago. The average price was $111,181, up 23.4% from $90,136 in 2018, while the median price was $62,000, up 12.7% from $55,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 24.2%; it was 17% in 2018.

The Spring Sale fourth and final session begins Friday at 10:30 a.m. Hip No.’s 913 – 1221 will be offered.

$1-million Quality Road filly tops Spring Sale’s second session

Hip No. 478, a bay filly by Danza consigned by Best A Luck Farm LLC, Agent, was sold for $400,000 to Sheikh Rashid Humaid Al Noaimi. The half sister to stakes winner I Got It All, whose eighth on Wednesday in : 9 4/5 was the day’s co-fastest, is out of Polish Silk, by Polish Pro.

Hip No. 517, a daughter of Bayern consigned by Harris Training Center LLC, Agent, went to Ben McElroy, Agent for KSI, for $400,000. The bay filly, whose eighth on Wednesday in :9 4/5 was the session’s co-fastest, is out of Queenie Cat, by Storm Cat, a half sister to champion Vindication.

For the day, 171 horses sold for a total of $22,360,500 compared to 191 bringing $19,478,500 at the corresponding session a year ago. The average was $130,763, up 28.2% compared with $101,982 in 2018 while the median price was $80,000, up 45% compared to $55,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 21.6%; it was 17.7% in 2018.

Hard Spun colt tops Spring Sale’s opening session

(Ciaran Dunne), Agent, went to Timothy Hills, Agent for Patrick Welsh, for $430,000, topping the first session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2019 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. The chestnut colt, who worked a quarter in :21 flat at Tuesday’s Under Tack session, is out of stakes winner Katerbug, by Pulpit, a half sister to stakes winner Outplay.

Hip No. 169, a son of Uncle Mo consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, was sold for $425,000 to Narvick International, Agent for Katsumi Yoshida. The bay colt, who breezed a quarter on Monday in :21 4/5, is a half brother to graded stakes winner Isabella Sings out of stakes placed Isobel Baillie (GB), by Lomitas (GB).

Red Oak Farm & Newtown Anner Stud paid $420,000 for Hip No. 208, a son of Tiznow consigned by Brick City Thoroughbreds, Agent. The bay colt, who worked a quarter on Tuesday in :21 2/5, is out of Kateri, by Indian Charlie, a three quarter sister to grade one winner Tiz Miz Sue.

Hip No. 109, a daughter of Twirling Candy, whose Under Tack quarter in :21 flat was co-fastest at the distance at Monday’s Under Tack session, was purchased by Belladonna Racing LLC for $335,000. The bay filly is out of Henley, by Corinthian, a half sister to graded stakes winner Mr. Commons.

Charles H. Boden, Agent for Colts Neck Stables LLC, went to $310,000 for Hip No. 249, a son of First Samurai consigned by Off the Hook LLC, Agent. The chestnut colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat on Tuesday, is a half brother to graded stakes winner Decorated Soldier out of graded stakes winner Lakenheath, by Colonial Affair.

Hip No. 242, a son of Sky Mesa consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, was sold to Charles H. Boden, Agent for Colts Neck Stables LLC, for $300,000. The bay colt, whose eighth in :9 4/5 was co-fastest at the distance on Tuesday, is out of Lady Lavery, by Elusive Quality, a half sister to graded stakes winner Skylighter.

Narvick International paid $300,000 for Hip No. 255, a bay Kitten’s Joy filly who turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat on Tuesday. Hip No. 1, a son of Blame consigned by All In Line Stables, Agent, went to Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners for $290,000. The dark bay or brown colt, who breezed a quarter in :21 1/5 at Monday’s Under Tack session, is out of Facethefront, by War Front, a half sister to graded stakes winner Ball Four.

Dennis O’Neill paid $290,000 for Hip No. 187, a son of Lemon Drop Kid consigned by Grassroots Training & Sales LLC. The dark bay or brown colt, who turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5, is out of stakes winner Joffe’s Run, by Giant’s Causeway, a daughter of graded stakes placed stakes winner Laguna Seca.

For the day, 148 horses brought a total of $14,243,500 compared with 168 selling for a total of $15,904,000 at last year’s opening session. The average price was $96,240, compared to $94,667 in 2018 while the median price was $58,500, compared with $52,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 29.9%; it was 20% last year.

Six weekend stakes wins for OBS grads

Thoroughbred Champions Training Center LLC’s Gladiator King set the pace in Saturday’s $75,000 Roar Stakes at Gulfstream, shook loose in mid-stretch, then held off a strong late charge to win by a nose. It’s the third stakes victory for the 3-year-old graded stakes winning colt by Curlin, trained by Jaime Mejia, now 13-5-1-1 with $216,535 in earnings. Michael Dubb, Madaket Stables LLC, Darsan, Inc., Bethlehem Stables LLC and David Simon’s A Bit of Both took the lead at the start of Gulfstream’s $75,000 Game Face Stakes on Saturday and never looked back, opening up daylight in the stretch and winning by three lengths. It’s the third straight win and first stakes score for the 3-year-old Florida-bred filly Paynter, sold by breeder Darsan, Inc. for $10,000 at the 2017 OBS October Selected Yearling Sale. Alex and JoAnn Lieblong’s Bye Bye J moved wide to the leaders on the turn in Saturday’s $100,000 Rainbow Miss Stakes at Oaklawn Park, took charge after straightening away in the stretch and eased away to win by a length and three quarters. It’s the second stakes victory for the 3-year-old graded stakes placed daughter of Uncaptured, sold for $21,000 by Perrone Sales, Ltd., Agent for McDowell Farm, at the 2017 OBS Winter Mixed Sale. Trained by Ron Moquett, she’s now 7-4-1-1 and has earned $221,605 to date.

2018 OBS April graduates took both divisions of the New York Stallion Stakes at Aqueduct on Saturday.

Beach Haven Thoroughbreds LLC’s Newly Minted is two for two and a stakes winner after going head to head for the lead early in the $200,000 New York Stallion Stakes for fillies, putting away her rival on the turn and drawing away down the stretch to a 7-1/2 length victory. Fellow OBS graduate Bangle Gal (March ’18) checked in third. The 3-year-old daughter of Central Banker, consigned by Sequel Bloodstock, Agent for Chester and Mary Broman, was purchased by Beach Haven for $110,000 after breezing an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. Gatsas Stables, R. A. Hill Stable and Swick Stable’s Funny Guy circled horses to reach contention in the $200,000 New York Stallion Stakes, took command a sixteenth from home and scored by three quarters of a length. Fellow OBS graduate Thorny Tale (October ’18) settled for third. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Big Brown, trained by John Terranova, now 5-2-1-0 with earnings of $160,270. Judge Lanier Racing’s Performance Review came out to the middle of the track in Sunday’s $75,000 Neon Desert Handicap at Sunland Park, took the lead coming to the sixteenth pole and drew away to win by two lengths, with fellow OBS graduate Kram (April ’17) running third. It’s the first stakes win for the 6-year-old daughter of Eskendereya, sold for $150,000 at the 2015 OBS April Sale by RiceHorse Stables after breezing an eighth in :10 3/5 at the Under Tack Show.
