First Under Tack Show session cancelled

The first session of the Under Tack Show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2021 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds has been cancelled. With severe impending weather approaching it has been determined that cancellation is the best and safest course of action for both horses and people.

The Under Tack Show will now be held over six sessions beginning Monday, April 12^th and continuing through Saturday, April 17^th with all sessions starting at 8:00 a.m.

C Z Rocket leads parade of five Saturday stakes winners

OBS graduates scored in three stakes at Oaklawn and a pair at Keeneland on Saturday.

Gary Barber, Tom Kagele and Madaket Stables LLC’s C Z Rocket swept to the lead coming off the turn in the $500,000 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap (G3) and once again got the best of Sprint champion Whitmore, easing away late to beat him to the wire by two lengths. That’s five stakes wins for the 7-year-old Florida-bred son of City Zip, who turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 before he was purchased out of the Stephens Thoroughbred consignment at the 2016 OBS June Sale for a then sale record $800,000. Allied Racing Stable, LLC and Spendthrift Farm LLC’s By My Standards, idle since November, returned to work in fine form, leading a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of the $400,000 Oaklawn Mile Stakes. The 5-year-old son of OBS graduate Goldencents chased the pace from the outside on the backstretch, charged down the stretch after fellow OBS graduate Rushie (March ’19) and caught him at the wire to win by a nose. Wells Bayou (March ’19) rallied to complete the OBS trifecta. Trained by Bret Calhoun, he now has five stakes wins, a 15-7-4-1 career record and has earned $2,069,430 to date. Hronis Racing LLC’s Edgeway picked up her first stakes victory in the $250,000 Carousel Stakes, taking charge in the stretch and holding off a late rally by even money favorite Frank’s Rockette by three quarters of a length. The 4-year-old filly by Competitive Edge, trained by John Sadler, is now 6-4-1-1 and has earned $307,200. She was purchased for $275,000 out of the Mayberry Farm consignment at the 2019 OBS April Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. watch her under tack video

Tom R. Durant’s Silver Dust pressed the pace in Keeneland’s $150,00 Ben Ali Stakes (G3), took over coming off the turn and held on gamely in the lane to score by half a length. It’s the fourth graded stakes win for the 7-year-old gelding by Tapit, who turned in an Under Tack quarter in :21 2/5 before he was purchased for $510,000 out of the de Meric Sales consignment at the 2016 OBS March Sale. Horseshoe Racing LLC’s Change of Control relaxed off the pace early in Keeneland’s $100,000 Giant’s Causeway Stakes, circled horses on the turn to reach contention, wore down fellow OBS graduate Into Mystic (April ’18) and was best by a length. It’s the second stakes win for the 5-year-old daughter of Fed Biz, purchased for $95,000 out of the Kaizen Sales consignment at the 2017 OBS Selected Yearling Sale. Spring Sale Under Tack Show begins Sunday

The Under Tack Show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2021 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training begins Sunday, April 11^th, and continues through Saturday, April 17^th. All seven sessions begin at 8:00 a.m.

Hip No.’s 1-174 will breeze on Sunday. Hip No.’s 175-348 go to the track Monday; Hip No’s 349-522 breeze Tuesday; Hip No’s 523-696 work Wednesday, Hip No.’s 697-870 breeze Thursday, Hip No’s 871-1044 work on Friday and Hip No’s 1045-1217 will go to the track Saturday.

The ascendence of the OBS Spring Sale in the marketplace is a reflection of the performance of it’s graduates at the races. This past weekend, five Spring Sale graduates won or placed in graded stakes from coast to coast and in between, led by the devastating performance of Cash Is King LLC and LC Racing LLC’s Mischevious Alex, who joined the ranks of grade one winners with a 5-1/2 length victory in Aqueduct’s Carter Handicap (G1). It was the fourth graded win for the 4-year-old son of Into Mischief, consigned to the 2019 Spring Sale by Eisaman Equine where he went through the ring after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. During the same weekend, 2020 Spring Sale graduate Amalfi Princess was third in Keeneland’s Beaumont Stakes (G3), Dream Shake (2020) was third in the Santa Anita Derby (G1), Estilo Talentoso (2019) second in Keenland’s Madison Stakes (G1) and Army Wife (2020) third in Aqueduct’s Gazelle Stakes (G3).

OBS Spring graduates have been in the headlines overseas as well.

In January, Kanayama Holdings Co., Ltd.’s Shivaji scored in the Silk Road Stakes (G3) at Chukyo Racecourse in Japan. The 6-year-old son of First Samurai, trained by Kenji Nonaka, has earned $1,731,552 to date and posted a 22-6-5-3 career mark. In Dubai at Meydan in February, Shiekh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s Mouheeb took the UAE 2000 Guineas (G3) at Meydan in a stakes record 1:35.46 for the mile for his first stakes win. The 3-year-old colt by Flatter was purchased for $400,000 out of the Tom McCrocklin consignment at the 2020 OBS Spring Sale after breezing an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5. Other Spring grads in the news recently include Robert E. and Lawana L. Low’s Colonel Liam, winner of Gulfstream’s $1-million Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational Stakes (G1) in January and the Muniz Memorial Classic Stakes (Gr. 2) at Fair Grounds in March. The 4-year-old colt by Liam’s Map, trained by Todd Pletcher is now 7-5-0-1 with earnings of $870,965. Holly Hill Stable’s Pacific Gale captured her first graded stakes win in Gulfstream’s Inside Information Stakes (G2) in January, and followed it with a score in the Hurricane Bertie Stakes (G3) in March. The two-time OBS graduate was sold by Stuart Morris, Agent, at the 2016 Selected Yearling Sale before she was resold for $72,000 by Woodside Ranch, Agent, at the 2017 Spring Sale after an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. Michael Dubb, Steve Hornstock, Bethlehem Stables LLC and Nice Guys Stables’ Last Judgment has been productive in 2021, winning the Challenger Stakes (G3) at Tampa Bay Downs in January and finishing second in Gulfstream’s Ghostzapper Stakes (G3) in March. Trained by Mike Maker, the 5-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Congrats has two stakes wins, a 17-7-1-1 career record and has earned $352,965. Cash Is King LLC and LC Racing LLC’s Mischevious Alex rated just off the early pace in Aqueduct’s $300,000 Carter Handicap (G1), moved on the outside to reach the leaders turning for home, took over a furlong out and drew away to win by 5-1/2 lengths in hand. It’s the fourth graded stakes win for the 4-year-old colt by Into Mischief, consigned by Eisaman Equine to the 2019 OBS April Sale where he went through the ring after an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. Terry Hutto’s American Bound got the 2-year-old racing season off and running in her debut at Keeneland on Friday with a 1-1/2 length wire to wire victory in a $60,000 maiden special weight dash. Trained by Joe Sharp, the 2-year-old daughter of American Freedom earned $36,000 for the effort. OBS graduates posted four stakes wins on Sunday at Florida Cup Day at Tampa Bay Downs.

Winning Stables Inc.’s Foreman led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of the $100,000 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Sophomore Stakes, tracking frontrunning Willy Boi (October ’20) from the start and wearing him down in the final yards and scoring by half a length. Shoo Shine (October ’20) checked in third. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old Florida-bred son of Chitu, a two-time OBS graduate, sold by T-Square Stud LLC, Agent, at the 2019 October Yearling Sale and then purchased for $20,000 out of the Goldencents Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2020 June Sale after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :21 2/5. Averill Racing LLC and ATM Racing’s unbeaten R Adios Jersey stepped into stakes company for the first time in the $110,000 Stonehedge Farm South Sophomore Fillies Stakes, went right to the front, and never looked back en route to a 2-1/4 length victory. Four for four for trainer Georgina Baxter, the 3-year-old Florida-bred filly by Adios Charlie has earned $137,000 to date. Gary Barber’s I Get It, last of eight early in Gulfstream’s $100,000 Sanibel Island Stakes, rallied wide down the stretch, took the lead a furlong from home and held off a late run by fellow OBS graduate World Tour (April ’20) to beat her by half a length. It’s the first stakes win for the graded stakes placed 3-year-old filly by Get Stormy, trained by Ron Spatz, now 9-5-0-1 with $156,278 in earnings. Full of Run Racing, LLC’s Dreamalildreamofu tracked the leaders early in Turfway’s $96,925 Latonia Stakes, came between horses in the stretch to take over in deep stretch and scored her first stakes win by three quarters of a length. It’s the second straight win for the 4-year-old daughter of Commissioner, a two-time OBS graduate. LLP Performance Horse, LLC’s Zenden led from start to finish and took the $1,500,000 Golden Shaheen Stakes (G1) at Meydan by 3-1/2 lengths in a stakes record 1:09.01 for six furlongs. After the wire, Zenden sustained a catastrophic injury. Robert E. and Lawana L. Low’s Colonel Liam rated off the pace early in $300,000 Muniz Memorial Classic Stakes (G2), came around horses to reach contention turning for home, wore down the leader to take charge a sixteenth from home and was best by a length and a half. It’s the second straight graded stakes win for the 4-year-old colt by Liam’s Map, who turned in an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5 before he was purchased for $1,200,000 out of the Wavertree Stables consignment at the 2019 OBS April Sale. A total of 1,214 juveniles have been cataloged for the four-day sale, now set for Tuesday through Friday, April 20^th – April 23^th. All sessions will begin at 10:30 a.m.
