October Supplemental catalog now online

The Supplemental Catalog for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2021 October Yearling Sale is now available via the OBS website at obssales.com and available in printed form on the OBS sales grounds. The two-day sale is set for Tuesday and Wednesday, October 12^th and 13^th.

Seventeen Selected Yearlings have been supplemented and will sell as Hip No.’s 136 – 152. Thirty-two horses have been added to the Open Yearling Sale, selling as Hip No.’s 565 – 596.

The Selected Yearling Sale begins Tuesday, October 12^th at 1:00 p.m. with Hip No.’s 1 – 152 offered for sale. The Open Yearling Sale, now cataloged as Hip No.’s 201 – 596, is set for Wednesday, October 13^th and will begin at 11:00 a.m.

OBS will again offer Online Bidding during the October Sale. Buyers will be able to go to the OBS website and register to gain bidding approval, then access the OBS Bidding Screen with their credentials. The Supplemental catalog boasts an impressive roster of sires not represented in the original October catalog. Empire Maker heads the list which includes Ghostzapper, Honor Code, Liam’s Map, Mo Tom, Twirling Candy, Uncle Mo and Union Rags.

Classic winner Always Dreaming is represented in the Supplemental as well as in the original catalog, as are Bolt d’Oro, Good Magic, Good Samaritan, Hard Spun, Mendelssohn, Tapwrit and Violence.

OBS October Yearling graduates have been busy since publication of the original catalog.

Exline-Border Racing LLC, SAF Racing and Richard Hausman’s Lady Mystify added her name to the long list of graded stakes winning October Yearling graduates last Saturday with a three length victory in the $200,000 Remington Park Oaks (G3). It was the first stakes score for the 3-year-old daughter of Bernardini, trained by Peter Eurton, leaving her with a 6-3-1-1 record and $217,520 in earnings. LNJ Foxwoods’ Outfoxed, who broke her maiden in Gulfstream’s FTBOA Florida Sire Susan’s Girl Stakes in August, returned to Hallandale this past Saturday and romped to a 9-1/4 length victory in the $400,000 FTBOA Florida Sire My Dear Girl Stakes. The 2-year-old Florida-bred filly by Valiant Minister, is also a two-time OBS graduate. Sold first by Abbie Road Farm at the 2020 October Yearling Sale, she sped an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5 at the 2021 Spring Sale and was purchased for $360,000 out of the Coastal Equine consignment. Monarch Stables Inc.’s Last Leaf led an OBS sweep of Saturday’s $75,000 Hollywood Beach Stakes, beating Nerve (April ’21) by a head, with Barone Casco (April ’21, October ’20) settling for third. It was the stakes debut for the 3-year-old daughter of Not This Time, trained by Ron Spatz, now 5-3-1-0 with $107,490 in earnings. The two-time OBS graduate was sold by Sharon Biamonte, Agent, at the 2020 Winter Mixed Sale and then purchased for $23,500 out of the Kaizen Sales consignment at the 2020 October Sale. On September 18^th, Full of Run Racing, LLC and Madaket Stables LLC’s Dreamalildreamofu won the $100,000 Twixt Stakes at Laurel, the second stakes win for the 4-year-old graded stakes placed daughter of Commissioner. She’s a two-time OBS graduate, sold first at the 2018 October Selected Yearling Sale, then purchased for $65,000 out of the Advanced Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2019 June Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. Bella Sofia scores in Belmont’s Gallant Bloom Handicap

Scuderi and Parkland Thoroughbreds’ Bella Sofia took the lead at the start of Belmont’s $232,500 Gallant Bloom Handicap (G2) and never looked back, pulling away down the stretch to a 3-1/2 length victory over fellow OBS graduate Lady Rocket (April ’19, October ’18). Rudy Rodriguez trains the 3-year-old filly by Awesome Patriot, who has posted three stakes wins, compiled a 5-4-1-0 record and earned $542,600. OBS graduates posted a trio of stakes wins on Saturday at Laurel.

Rockingham Ranch and David A Bernsen LLC’S Jalen Journey was awarded victory in the $200,000 Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash Stakes (G3) when interfered with in the final sixteenth. It’s the first stakes win for the graded stakes placed 6-year-old Florida-bred son of With Distinction, trained by Steve Asmussen, now 16-8-2-1 with earnings of $503,674. He was sold for $14,000 by Kim Harrison (Top Speed Farm), Agent, at the 2016 OBS August Yearling Sale.

2021 October Yearling Sale catalog now online

The catalog for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2021 October Sale is now available via the OBS website at obssales.com. The two-day sale is set for Tuesday and Wednesday, October 12^th and 13^th. Supplemental entries will be accepted until September 24^th.

The Selected Yearling Sale begins on Tuesday, October 12^th at 1:00 p.m. with Hip No.’s 1– 135 plus supplements. The Open Yearling Sale, with 364 horses cataloged as Hip No.’s 201 – 564 plus supplements, is set for Wednesday, October 13^th and will begin at 11:00 a.m.

The sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the DRF, TDN, BloodHorse and Pastthewire websites.

Long a source of top class racehorses, the October Yearling Sale annually showcases the offspring of up and coming stallions. Horse of the Year Gun Runner and champion Classic Empire have yearlings cataloged, as does multiple grade one stakes winner Practical Joke. Other sires with first crop runners include American Freedom, Connect, Gormley, Mohaymen and Valiant Minister.

The 2021 October Sale also features yearlings from a strong roster of freshman sires. Bolt d’Oro, Good Magic, Mendelsson and Army Mule are represented, as are Accelerate, Girvin, Oscar Performance and Tapwrit. The list also includes Always Dreaming, Awesome Slew, Bucchero, Cloud Computing, Collected, Good Samaritan, Mo Town, Mor Spirit, Sharp Azteca, Tunwoo and West Coast.

OBS graduates Goldencents and Kantharos head the roster of established sires, a group also including Frosted, Khozan, Laoban, Malibu Moon, More Than Ready, Munnings, Not This Time, Speightstown, Tiznow and Violence.

War Like Goddess posts fourth straight; Spring Sale topper scores in debut

George Krikorian’s War Like Goddess secured a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1) with a 2-1/4 length victory in Saratoga’s $600,000 Flower Bowl Stakes on Saturday. Unhurried in the early going, she closed in on the turn, swung out for the drive and swept past the leaders with ease. It’s the fourth straight graded stakes win for 4-year-old daughter of English Channel, consigned to the 2019 OBS June Sale by Hemingway Racing and Training Stables, and sold for $30,000 after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. Speedway Stables LLC’s Corniche, the 2021 OBS Spring Sale topper, get his career off to a flying start in his debut at Del Mar on Saturday. He opened daylight out of the gate in a $72,500 maiden special weight dash and never looked back on his way to a 4-1/4 length victory, running the 5-1/2 furlongs in a snappy 1:03 flat for trainer Bob Baffert. The Critical Way captures Parx Dash Stakes

Monster Racing Stables’ The Critical Way took part in a three-way scrimmage for the lead in Tuesday’s $200,000 Parx Dash Stakes (G3), battled between rivals down the stretch and was best by a nose at the wire. It’s the third straight stakes win for the 7-year-old graded stakes placed son of Tizway, now 27-10-6-2 with $593,168 in earnings for trainer Jose Delgado.
