Spurious Precision speeds to Saratoga Special victory

As impressive as Klaravich Stables Inc. and William H. Lawrence’s Spurious Precision was in his July 21 debut at Saratoga, it was merely a warmup for his performance in Sunday’s $200, 000 Saratoga Special Stakes (G2). Taking the lead at the start and setting the pace with a half in :44 flat, the 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by High Cotton drew away in the stretch and coasted to a five length victory. Two for two and a graded stakes winner of $168,000, he’s following in the footsteps of his older stablemate, OBS graduate Currency Swap (March ’11, October ’09). Currency Swap, also by High Cotton, broke his maiden at Saratoga before winning the Hopeful Stakes (G1) in his second start. Southern Chase Farm’s Sweet Redemption made her debut in Saturday’s $151,350 Ontario Debutante Stakes and despite no previous experience, tracked the leaders into the stretch and then ran them down in the final strides to win her first start by a neck. Fellow OBS graduate Lady Bear (April ’12, January ’11) checked in third. Earning $90,810 for her effort, Sweet Redemption, a 2-year-old daughter of D’wildcat, was consigned by Southern Chase (Greg & Karen Dodd) to the 2012 OBS April Sale. watch her under tack video

Black Hawk Stable’s Alsvid picked up his fourth stakes victory on Saturday at Remington Park, taking command of the $103,000 David M. Vance Sprint Stakes in the final furlong and drawing off to win by a length and a quarter. It’s the third win in four starts this year for the 3-year-old gelding by Officer, sold for $55,000 by Stephens Thoroughbreds, Agent, at the 2011 OBS April Sale. He’s now 9-6-0-1 and has earned $241,465 to date. watch his under tack video

Unbeaten Executiveprivilege wins Del Mar’s Sorrento Stakes

Karl Watson, Mike Pegram & Paul Weitman’s unbeaten Executiveprivilege is three for three and a graded stakes winner after her 1-1/4 length victory in Del Mar’s $150, 000 Sorrento Stakes (G3). The 2012 OBS April Sale topper was sold by Eddie Woods, Agent for $650,000. It’s the second stakes win for the 2-year-old First Samurai filly; she’s earned $210,000 to date. watch her under tack video

For the tenth year, conformation photos of the horses cataloged for the upcoming OBS August Selected Sale of Yearlings can be viewed on the company’s website. There are 188 yearlings cataloged for the Selected Yearling Sale, scheduled for Tuesday, August 21^st beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Following the Selected Sales, the two-day Open Sale features 563 yearlings. Hip No.’s 189 – 470 sell on Wednesday, August 22^nd and Hip No.’s 471 – 751 will be offered Thursday, August 23^rd. Both Open sessions begin at 10:30 a.m.

As always, the sale will be streamed live via the OBS website and also via the Blood-Horse and DRF websites.

OBS first timers win at Del Mar; Spring at Last filly wows ’em at Woodbine

A pair of two-year-old OBS graduates, favored in their debuts at Del Mar on Saturday, took different approaches to their first victories, each winning a $70,000 5-1/2 furlong maiden special weight test.

In the fifth race, Eclipse Thoroughbreds Partners’ Capo Bastone had one horse beaten after a quarter, but came outside after turning for home and ran by the rest of the field of nine and was up to win by a neck. The 2-year-old colt by Street Boss was sold for $175, 000 by de Meric Sales, Agent, at the 2012 OBS March Sale. watch his under tack video

Two races later, Arnold Zetcher’s Rolling Fog was head and head for the early lead before pulling away in the final furlong and scoring by 2-1/2 lengths. The 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by Posse is a three-time OBS graduate, going through the ring at the 2010 October and 2011 January Sales before being purchased out of the Classic Bloodstock (Danzel Brendemuehl) consignment at the 2012 April Sale. watch his under tack video

At Woodbine, John Oxley’s Spring in the Air, who had broken poorly as the 7-5 favorite in her debut in the Shady Well Stakes in July, made no mistakes in a $63,273 maiden special weight race on Saturday, powering to the lead on the turn and cruising under wraps to a 10-1/4 length victory. The 2-year-old daughter of Spring at Last was sold by Eddie Woods, Agent, at the 2012 OBS March Sale for $130,000. watch her under tack video

Alpha Bettor wins Woodbine’s Seagram Cup Stakes

Bulldog Racing’s Alpha Bettor, overlooked at 23-1 in the $152, 202 Seagram Cup Stakes (G3) at Woodbine on Saturday, got up in the final yards to win his first stakes race by half a length. It’s the second win in five starts this year for the 4-year-old colt by Alphabet Soup, now 17-5-3-1 with earnings of $292,547. He was sold for $27,000 at the 2010 Adena Springs Sale. watch his under tack video

Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s Major Marvel shipped to Mountaineer Park for Saturday’s $100,000 West Virginia House of Delegates Speaker’s Cup Stakes, took the lead turning for home and drew clear for 1-3/4 length victory in a course record 1:37 1/5 for the mile and seventy yards on the turf. It’s the first stakes score for the well-traveled 6-year-old son of Bernstein, consigned by True South, Agent, to the 2008 OBS March Stakes. He’s now 39-13-4-3 and has earned $343,378. watch his under tack video

Tri-Star Racing LLC and Joe B. Denson’s Brown Almighty is two for two and a stakes winner after his 2-3/4 length win in Saturday’s $50,000 Sunny’s Halo Stakes at Louisiana Downs. The 2-year-old colt by Big Brown, the first stakes winner for his sire, has earned $54,000 to date. C C’s Pal scores in Saratoga’s Honorable Miss Handicap

Eric Fein’s C C’s Pal rallied from off the pace to gain command of Saratoga’s $200, 000 Honorable Miss Handicap (G2) in the final eighth, then held off Island Bound’s late charge to post her second graded stakes win by a neck. That’s six stakes victories overall for the 5-year-old Florida-bred mare by Alex’s Pal, sold as a weanling for $7,500 by Beth Bayer, Agent, at the 2007 OBS Fall Mixed Sale. The win gives her a 31-9-7-7 record and earnings of $798,086.

Jocosity leaves them laughing at the Spa

The dictionary defines jocosity as “joking or jesting” and his backers laughed all the way down the stretch as Let’s Go Stable’s Jocosity rolled to an eight length victory in Friday’s fifth race at Saratoga. After pressing a wicked pace in :21 3/5 and :44 4/5, the bay colt by Sharp Humor took over and extended his lead with every stride, stopping the timer in a quick 1:02 4/5 for the 5-1/2 furlong maiden special weight test for two-year-olds. Sold for $210,000 by W.D. North Thoroughbreds, Agent, at the 2012 OBS March Sale, the stakes placed son of Sharp Humor is now 3-1-2-0 and has earned $90,576. watch his under tack video

OBS graduates had a good day at Saratoga on Monday, with a pair of 2-year-olds winning at first asking, a stakes winning filly scoring her third straight win and a victory in the featured stakes race.

William C. Schettine’s Rosa Salvaje, overlooked at 19-1 in the featured $100,000 Shakespeare Caress Stakes, took over with a furlong to go and held on gamely to win her first stakes race by a neck. Idle since winning her only other start this year in January at Gulfstream, the 4-year-old daughter of Chapel Royal is now 12-4-2-0 and has earned $156,555. She was sold for $13,000 by Woodside Ranch, Agent, at the 2009 OBS August Sale.

Two youngsters from the 2012 March Sale scored in their first trips to the post. In the fifth race, Let’s Go Stable’s Top Tier Lass ran off and hid in a 5-1/2 furlong turf test, winning by seven lengths in a quick 1:03 1/5. Two races earlier, Blue Devil Racing Stable’s Fly Bye Pomeroy came from off the pace to win by a length in his first try. The Florida-bred colt by Pomeroy was consigned to OBS March by Scanlon Training Center, Agent. watch his under tack video

The day’s second race, a 6-1/2 furlong allowance race, went to Saul and Max Kupferberg’s Sunny Desert, scoring her third straight victory. The stakes winning daughter of Wild Desert was sold by Quiet Time Farm, Agent, at the 2009 OBS October Sale.

Currency Swap leads 1-2-3 OBS sweep of Saratoga’s Amsterdam Stakes

Klaravich Stables Inc. & William H. Lawrence’s Currency Swap turned for home with only fellow OBS graduate Doctor Chit (March ’11) to catch in the $200, 000 Amsterdam Stakes (G2) at Saratoga, and the 3-year-old Florida-bred colt by High Cotton drove past him to win by a length and a three quarters, with Unbridled’s Note (March ’11) a neck back in third. Three for three at the Spa, his other graded stakes win came in last year’s Hopeful Stakes (G1). Now 7-4-2-0 with earnings of $448,300, the two time OBS graduate was sold as a weanling by Summerfield, Agent for breeder Stonecliff Farm at the 2009 OBS Fall Mixed Sale then consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, to the 2011 OBS March Sale. watch his under tack video

Shadowbdancing, Gourmet Dinner the newest OBS millionaires

RNB Racing LLC’s Shadowbdancing is the newest OBS millionaire after cruising to a seven length victory in Saturday’s $100, 000 Prairie Meadows Handicap. That’s an even dozen stakes wins for the 7-year-old Florida-bred son of Montbrook, sold by breeder Ocala Stud for $200, 000 at the 2007 OBS February Sale. The win leaves him with a 40-15-7-6 record and earnings of $1,000,147. watch his under tack video

Our Sugar Bear Stable’s Gourmet Dinner rallied from the back of the pack in the $100,000 Majestic Light Stakes at Monmouth, reached the lead in the final furlong and held on gamely to win by a neck. It’s the first win in six starts this year for the 4-year-old millionaire Florida-bred colt by Trippi, sold for $40,000 by Ocala Stud at the 2010 OBS April Sale. Now 14-5-2-2, he has earned $1,067,277 to date. watch his under tack video

MAT Stables LLC’s Royal Currier picked up his second straight stakes win at Monmouth on Sunday, winning the $100,000 Teddy Drone Stakes by a nose. That’s eight stakes wins for the 4-year-old Florida-bred Red Bullet gelding. Now 26-12-6-2 with earnings of $678,550, he was sold for $5,500 at the 2010 Adena Springs Sale. watch his under tack video

Three Lions Racing’s Sensible Lady racked up her third stakes win in her last five starts with a 1-1/4 length win in Penn National’s $100,000 Jenny Wade Stakes Friday night. The 3-year-old Street Sense filly, sold by King’s Equine, Agent, for $9,500, at the 2011 OBS April Sale, is now 11-6-0-2 with earnings of $214,330. watch her under tack video

Easton and Elsaida DeSouza’s Candy Coded Kisses was overlooked at 24-1 in the $75,000 Florida Stallion Desert Vixen Stakes at Calder Saturday, but the 2-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Omega Code took command with a quarter mile to go and drew off to her first stakes win by four lengths. Fellow OBS graduates Putyourdreamsaway (April ’12) and So Blessed (January ’11) were second and third. Consigned by Beth Bayer, Agent, to the 2011 OBS August Sale, she’s now 3-2-20-1 and has earned $60,370.

Edward A. Seltzer’s Prize Doll tried stakes company for the first time since her debut in the 2011 OBS Sprint in Calder’s $50,000 Ms Brookski Stakes and came from off the pace to score by a length and a quarter. It’s the second straight win for the 4-year-old filly by Pure Prize, now 9-3-1-1 with earnings of $59,645. Fall Mixed Sale entry deadline extended

The entry deadline for the 2012 OBS Fall Mixed Sale has been extended. While the original deadline for the sale, scheduled for Tuesday through Thursday, October 16^th – 18^th , was July 20^th, the extension allows horsemen and breeders additional time for decisions on the sale of breeding or potential and racing stock.
