Edward J.  Brown, Jr., Alan Klein and Phillip Lebherz’s Distinctiv Passion led an OBS sweep of the first running of the $100,000 Midnight Lute Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita, leading all the way and scoring by a length and a quarter over Heir of Storm (August ’11), with Appealing Tale (March ’12) a nose back in third. Favored Secret Circle (March ’11) settled for fourth.  It’s the first graded stakes win for the two time OBS graduate trained by Jeff Bonde, now 13-6-1-4 with earnings of $336,180. The 4-year-old Florida-bred colt by With Distinction was sold first by Kaizen Sales, Agent for Plumley Farms, at the 2011 OBS January Sale before bringing $65,000 when purchased out of the Kim Harrison consignment at the 2011 OBS August Sale. He’s now 13-6-1-4 and has earned $336,180. Michael Dubb, Bethlehem Stables and Gary Aisquith’s The Lewis Dinner battled head to head for the lead in Sunday’s $150,000 New York Stallion Series Stakes at Aqueduct, took over a half mile out and cruised from there to a 4-3/4 length victory. It’s the second straight stakes win for the 2-year-old daughter of Posse, trained by Rudy Rodriguez, and leaves her with a 6-2-2-1 record and $229,500 in earnings. She was purchased for $50,000 out of the Eisaman Equine consignment at the 2014 OBS April Sale by Gary C. Thomas Halasz, Ryan Johnson, Paul L. Newhart and Martha Miller et al’s Harlington’s Rose rallied from off the pace in the $95,850 Kalookan Queen Stakes at Santa Anita on Sunday, hit the front inside the final sixteenth and won by a length and a quarter. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old filly by Harlington, trained by Steve Knapp. Sold to B V D M for $7,500 by Y-Lo Racing Stables LLC at the 2012 OBS August Yearling Sale, she’s now 18-3-5-0 and has earned $277,680 to date.

Anthony A. Lenci’s Catalina Red chased fellow OBS graduate X Y Jet (August ’13, January ’13) the length of the Tampa Bay Downs stretch before catching him in the shadow of the wire, taking the $100, 000 Pasco Stakes by a neck in a track record 1:21 2/5 for the seven furlongs.  Charlie’s Brother (June ’14, August ’13) completed an OBS trifecta. The two-time OBS graduate is a  2-year-old Florida-bred colt by Munnings, sold to Nick de Meric, Agent, at the 2013 August Selected Yearling Sale prior to his purchase by Mr. Lenci for $71,000 out of the de Meric Sales consignment at the 2014 April Sale after an Under Tack Quarter in :231 1/5. William & Corrine Heiligbrodt’s Cinco Charlie pressed the pace in the $50, 000 Sugar Bowl Stakes on Saturday at Fair Grounds, took command after straightening away in the stretch and turned back a late run by fellow OBS graduate Bourbon Cowboy (April ’14, August ’13) to win by half a length. Control Stake (August ’13) completed the OBS trifecta. It’s the second straight stakes win for the Steve Asmussen trainee, whose 8-5-0-2 record includes a victory in Churchill’s Bashford Manor Stakes (G3) in June. Averill Racing LLC, Silver Oak Stable and Gregory Kaufman’s R Sassy Lass sat just off the pace in Saturday’s $92, 500 Sandpiper Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs, wore down the leaders in the stretch and scored by half a length. It’s the first stakes win for the 2-year-old Florida-bred filly by Exclusive Quality, consigned by Journeyman Bloodstock Services Inc. (Brent & Crystal Fernung) Agent, to the 2014 OBS April Sale and sold to Richard Averill for $40,000 after she breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. Goldmart Farms’ Kingsport gave nothing a chance in Saturday’s $125,400 Kingarvie Stakes at Woodbine, going to the lead at the break and easing away from the field in the drive, reporting home first by 3-1/2 lengths.  It’s the first stakes win for the Sid Attard trainee, now 4-2-0-1 with earnings of $99,605. Consigned by RiceHorse Stables, Agent, the 2-year-old colt by Milwaukee Brew was sold for $45,000 at the 2014 OBS June Sale after working an eighth in :10 2/5 at the Under Tack Show.  watch his under tack video

DP Racing, LLC’s unbeaten Ocho Ocho Ocho hooked up Mr. Z on the turn in Saturday’s $1, 000,000 Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes (G3) and was best by a nose at the wire after a stretch-long battle. It’s the second stakes score and first graded win for the 2-year-old colt by Street Sense, named for his hip number (888) in the 2014 OBS April Sale. Consigned to the sale by Grassroots Training & Sales LLC, he was selected by Gary Young and purchased by Deron Pearson’s DP Racing for $200,000 after working an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. Trained by James M. Cassidy, he’s now three for three and has earned $693,600 to date. Whispering Oaks Farm LLC’s D’cajun Cat took the lead at the break under Gerard Melancon in Saturday’s $75,000 Sam’s Town Stakes on the Delta Jackpot undercard, surrendered it briefly on the backstretch, opened up daylight on the turn and then cruised from there to a 2-1/4 length victory. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old Florida-bred gelding by D’wildcat, trained by Steven B. Flint.
