Mitole colt tops Winter Mixed Sale’s opening session

Hip No. 87, a yearling son of champion OBS graduate Mitole consigned by Silver Oaks Farm (Danielle Loya), Agent, was sold to Calumet Farm for $95,000 to top the Consignor Preferred Session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2024 Winter Mixed Sale.   • Love’s Equine, Agent for Classic Automations LLC paid $85,000 for Hip No. 30, Mighty Yaupon, a yearling son of OBS graduate Yaupon consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent. The dark bay or brown colt is out of stakes placed Mighty Souper, by War Front, from the family of graded stakes winner Harmony Hall.
  • Hip No. 110, a yearling daughter of Charlatan also consigned by Summerfield, was purchased for $85,000 by Latinos y mas. The bay filly is out of Charge of Angels, by Distorted Humor, a half sister to grade one stakes winner Bluegrass Cat.

  • Hip No. 40, a yearling daughter of Girvin consigned by Get Away Farm, Agent, was sold for $70,000 to AAA Thoroughbreds. The bay filly is out of Presage, by Jimmy Creed, from the family of graded stakes winner Ventana.
  • H & E Ranch paid $70,000 for Hip No. 105, a yearling bay colt by Maximus Mischief consigned by Kaizen Sales (Richard Kent), Agent. He’s out of Bratouttahell, by Distorted Humor, a half sister to grade one stakes placed stakes winner City Style. walking video
  • Hip No. 21, a yearling daughter of Lexitonian consigned by Beth Bayer, Agent, went to Boots Bloodstock for $62,000. The bay filly is a half sister to stakes winner Know It All Audrey out of stakes placed Know It All Anna, by champion OBS graduate Midnight Lute. walking video
  • Hip No. 39, Rileytole, a yearling daughter of champion OBS graduate Mitole, was purchased by Bill & Corinne Heiligbrodt for $50,000. Consigned by Summerfield, the bay filly is out of Picolata, by Bellamy Road, from the family of graded stakes winner North East Bound.
  • H & E Ranch paid $50,000 for Hip No. 88, a yearling son of Silver State consigned by Kaizen Sales (Richard Kent), Agent. The dark bay or brown colt is out of Will Take the Gal, by Will Take Charge, from the family of graded stakes placed stakes winner Lyracist. walking video
  • Summerfield also consigned Hip No. 77, Trust Me, a 4-year-old stakes placed broodmare prospect by The Big Beast, sold to Speriamo for $50,000. The bay filly is out of Trust, by Bodemeister, a half sister to graded stakes placed stakes winner Hello Don Julio.

For the Consignor Preferred session, 75 horses sold for a total of 1,738,400, compared with 99 horses grossing $2,696,700 in 2023. The average price was $23,179, compared with $27,239 a year ago, while the median price was $16,000 compared with $20,000 last year. The buyback percentage was 30.5%; it was 13.2% last year.

Hip No. 227, a 3-year-old daughter of Enticed consigned by Gutierrez Sales, Agent, went to Emerald Sales, Agent for K E M Stables for $70,000 to top the Horses of Racing Age Section. The dark bay or brown filly, who breezed three eighths in :33 flat at the Under Tack Show, is out of Pyrite Storm, by Formal Dinner, from the family of graded stakes winner Miss Pickums.  breeze video

  • Hip No. 217, Benvolio, a 3-year-old son of Tapit consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent for Stonestreet Stables LLC, was sold to A B Thoroughbreds for $60,000.   • Hip No. 262, Saint George, a son of St Patrick’s Day consigned by Journeyman Bloodstock Services, Inc. (Brent & Crystal Fernung, Agent) who sped the fastest three eighths at the Under Tack Show in :32 1/5, was sold to Barry Arnason for $55,000.   • Hip No. 263, a 3-year-old son of Bucchero consigned by Golden Thoroughbreds Training and Sales Agent, went to Joseph Brocklebank, Agent for Glenn Lostritto for $50,000. The chestnut gelding, who worked three eighths in:32 2/5, is out or Devilsfrostreport, by Devil His Due, from the family of stakes winner Prayforthesoldiers.

For the Horses of Racing Age section, 26 horses grossed $505,000 compared with 95 selling for a total of $1,583,800 in 2023. The average was $19,423 compared with $16,672 a year ago, while the median price was $11,000 compared to $10,000 last year. The buyback percentage was 31%; it was 13.6% in 2023.

The Winter Mixed Sale continues Wednesday at 12:00 noon with Hip No.’s 401 – 633 in the Open Session. The sale will again be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the DRF, TDN, BloodHorse and Past The Wire websites.
