Beau Liam Colt Equals Track Record During Day 5 of OBS June Under Tack Show

For Immediate Release

After one of his fillies took center stage earlier in the week, consignor Omar Ramirez witnessed one of his colts take to the track June 14 and showcase the depth of his consignment for 2025 OBS June Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age Sale.

Having already sent out Hip 229, a dark bay or brown filly by Cloud Computing to tie for the bullet move when she breezed a quarter in :20 4/5 on Wednesday, Ramirez enjoyed another highlight Saturday when Hip 829, a bay colt by Beau Liam, equaled the OBS track record for the distance when he worked in :20 1/5 during the fifth and final under tack session.

The Beau Liam colt becomes the first horse to work in :20 1/5 at OBS since a pair of entrants clocked that time at the 2024 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. One of the :20 1/5 workers in that 2024 April sale was Cash Call, recent winner of the Summertime Oaks (G3).

“I told Jimbo Gladwell (of Top Line Sales) this morning ‘I’ve got a good one coming out’”, Ramirez laughed. “I was expecting 20 and 3, 20 and 4 and if I was really lucky, 20 and 2. But 20 and 1, that’s amazing. He’s just a great colt. I knew the work was going to be good. I knew he was going to be the bullet, whatever the bullet was today.

“One of my riders told me to send this horse a quarter because he keeps going, he’s not going to stop. He’s ready to run.”

Bred by La Ciega LLC, the colt is out of the Lemon Drop Kid mare Sweetnsour Kitty, who is from the female family of graded stakes winner and multiple Grade 1 placed Feverish. He also caps off a banner week for Ramirez who believes his 28-horse strong consignment may be his best yet.

“This colt is just a special horse. He does everything naturally,” said Ramirez, who consigns as Omar Ramirez Bloodstock.  “He just goes over there and does his thing. I’ve had a great under tack show overall. All my babies responded well and have come back good and are looking good.”

Though he wasn’t part of the slate of under tack workers, another youngster who had a top outing this week was Hip 158, Khon Han, who won via disqualification first time out after crossing the wire second by a nose in the sixth race at Gulfstream Park on June 13. Consigned by A B Thoroughbreds, the colt is by Rock Your World and is out of the winning, stakes-placed Bellamy Road mare Bella Alicita.

Nyquist Colt Posts Fastest Eighth During Day Four of OBS June Under Tack Show

For Immediate Release

Consignor Ciaran Dunne routinely says there is no hiding a good horse on the sale grounds. Sure enough, during the fourth day of the Under Tack show for the 2025 OBS June Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age Sale, some of the promising members of Dunne’s Wavertree Stables consignment were anything but incognito.

Amidst clear skies and slightly breezy conditions, Dunne’s protégés repeatedly showed their potential during Friday’s session, including Hip 634, a bay colt by Nyquist, who worked an eighth in :9 3/5 to post the fastest time at the distance.

The Nyquist colt is the lone horse to go in :9 3/5 thus far during the Under Tack show and his outing helped validate the patience shown to him by Dunne and breeder Cypress Creek Equine. Out of Chilean champion and stakes winner Paquita Coqueta (CHI), by Scat Daddy, the colt was an immature type when he first came to Wavertree last fall but has steadily blossomed – physically and mentally – ahead of the June exercise.

“We got him in October/November and he was a little bit backwards as a yearling,” Dunne said of the colt. “Just because of his immaturity, we waited for this sale. But he’s always been a nice horse who has done everything right. We went up with high expectations today and he didn’t disappoint. He had every right to do what he did, and it takes a good horse to do what he did.”

The Nyquist colt is a half-brother to the Laoban filly Colder Weather, who is stakes placed in Venezuela.

In addition to having the day’s top time with the Nyquist colt, Wavertree also had two youngsters work in :9 4/5 in Hip 572, a bay colt by Bolt d’Oro out of the Smart Strike mare Missile Belle, and Hip 564, a gray or roan filly by Liam’s Map.

The filly is out of the winning Bertrando mare Mindfully, a daughter of Grade 1 winner Key Phrase from the female family of Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) winner Bar of Gold.

“The Liam’s Map filly is a very typical Unbridled’s Song,” said Dunne, referencing Liam’s Map’s sire. “She’s a beautiful filly, very leggy. She was originally slated to go to the races, but a few little things happened and they decided to reroute her here.

“The Bolt d’Oro colt is a big horse,” Dunne continued. “We had him slated for April but it was coming a little too quick for him. We always felt he was a nice horse and decided to give him a little extra time in hopes that he was as nice as we thought he was. Again, he proved to be worth the wait.”

The Bolt d’Oro colt and Liam’s Map filly were among the nine horses who worked in :9 4/5 Thursday. Others who posted that time were:

  • Hip 554, a gray or roan filly by Twirling Candy consigned by Golden Rock Thoroughbreds. Leinster Filly Works Fastest Quarter During Day Three of OBS June Under Tack Show

For Immediate Release

As Ali Rice spoke about both the effort one of her consignment’s top fillies delivered on the track and the sentiment the chestnut youngster carried with her, the Florida heat became no match for the emotions that bubbled up.

“I’m getting goosebumps,” said Rice, who operates RiceHorse Stable with her husband Brandon. “It’s 100 degrees and I’m getting goosebumps.”

The inspiration behind the overflow of pride that overtook Rice during the third day of the Under Tack show for the 2025 OBS June Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age Sale came after Hip 412, Elenique, a chestnut filly by Leinster, worked a quarter in :20 3/5 to post the fastest time at the distance during the June 12 session.

Out of the winning Cape Blanco (IRE) mare Cape Trios, who is herself a daughter of stakes winner Trois Aureole, the filly is owned by Aldo De Luca and has been with the RiceHorse team for about a month and a half. Even before throwing down her bullet move, the filly succeeded in making a massive impression on those around her with both her good mind and physical prowess.

“She arrived to us and has done everything right and came into this poised and ready for action,” Ali Rice said. “She’s so efficient in her stride that it seems effortless when she goes. You never hear her move across the track so….you never expect 20 and 3 but we knew she was so efficient that she would produce the breeze on the day.

“And I think OBS has done a good job keeping the track fair and nice,” Rice continued. “It can get hot and sticky but we’re starting earlier we’re breaking often. We’re doing the right things so horses can have an opportunity to perform.”

Shortly after the filly put in her impressive move, De Luca shared with Rice why the filly was special for reasons beyond the obvious.

“He told me a beautiful story today where his partner in business and his wife passed away within four months of each other,” Rice said. “Their little boy is 11 years old, and he came to the farm for a little time away to see the horses and he particularly loved this filly. So, (De Luca) gave the partner in name a piece of this filly.

“And the little boy asked if he could name her, so she is named Elenique after his mother who died of cancer. Sometimes these horses know that it needs to happen.”

Independence Hall Colt Breezes Fastest Quarter in Day 4 of OBS Spring Under Tack Show

For Immediate Release

A dark bay colt by Independence Hall out of the Candy Ride (ARG) mare Waltzing made the most of ideal weather conditions on the day when he breezed a quarter in :20 2/5 to post the fastest time for the distance during the fourth day of the Under Tack show for the 2025 OBS Spring Two-Year-Olds in Training sale.

Consigned by Wavertree Stables as Hip 619, the colt comes from a family with proven ability on both turf and dirt. Waltzing is a half-sister to graded stakes winner Dancing Solo as well as Grade 1 placed Dancing. The mare is also out of a full sister to Grade 1 winner Voodoo Dancer.

Given the way the colt prepped in the weeks leading up to his under-tack outing, Ciaran Dunne of Wavertree was quietly optimistic the breeze would pan out as impressive as it did.

“We were probably as confident bringing him up there as you could be with a horse,” Dunne said. “You don’t ever expect one to go in :20 2/5, I think that’s the first time we’ve had one go that fast. In terms of how he trained and prepped, he couldn’t have given any better signs than he was giving.

“Physically, he’s a stunning horse. He’s a big rangy horse, very athletic. He surpassed all expectations. I would say that the only way anybody doesn’t like him is if they don’t like horses.”

For the second day in a row, a filly by a top sprinter from the consignment of Tom McCrocklin flaunted her ability over the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company track.

Daughter of Yaupon Posts Fastest Quarter During Day 2 of OBS Spring Under Tack Show

Against a backdrop of warm and windy conditions, the second day of the Under Tack show for the 2025 OBS Spring Two-Year-Olds in Training sale transpired with a bay filly by OBS grad Yaupon posting the fastest time for a quarter when she breezed in :20 2/5.

A total of eight juveniles breezed an eighth of a mile in :9 4/5 to tie for the fastest time at the distance.

Jody Mihalic and David McKathan’s Grassroots Training & Sales, which sent out the lone filly to go in :9 4/5 on Sunday, had another standout session as four members of his consignment clocked in at the top time. Included in that quartet were:

With both dirt and turf aptitude in her bloodlines, as well as Not This Time’s ability to throw top-class runners on either surface, Brennan feels Squib could have a variety of suitors when she enters the sale ring.
