Verso a Verso, Speak Logistics score in Stallion Stakes at Calder

Frank Carl Calabrese’s Verso a Verso is two for two and a stakes winner after her five length victory led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of Calder’s $300, 000 Florida Stallion My Dear Girl Stakes on Saturday. Ashlee’s Princess (August ’11) was second, with So Blessed (January ’11) checking in in third. The 2-year-old Florida-bred filly by Circular Quay is a two time OBS graduate, sold first at the 2011 August Sale before she was purchased for $11,000 out of the Journeyman Bloodstock consignment at the 2012 April Sale. Ralph Nabavi’s Speak Logistics went right to the lead in Saturday’s $300, 000 Florida Stallion In Reality Stakes at Calder and never looked back en route to a 2-3/4 length victory, with fellow OBS graduate Uptown Anthem (June ’12, April ’12, August ’11, October ’10) finishing third. It’s the first stakes score for the 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by High Cotton, shipped in to Calder off a maiden win at Monmouth in August. Now 3-2-0-0 with earnings of $202,700, he was sold for $62,000 by Ocala Stud, Agent, at the 2012 OBS April Sale. watch his under tack video

Trinity Racing Stables, Inc.’s Silent Serenity scored her first stakes victory Saturday at Woodbine, going wire to wire in the $102,200 Ruling Angel Stakes and winning by three quarters of a length. That’s four wins in seven starts this year for the 3-year-old filly by Silent Name (JPN, sold by Eisaman Equine, Agent, for $20,000 at the 2011 OBS April Sale. The win gives her an 8-4-0-1 record with $151,183 in earnings. watch her under tack video

Equineline Sales Catalog App seminars at OBS Monday October 15

OBS and The Jockey Club Information Systems will be hosting two seminars on the equineline Sales Catalog App on Monday, October 15.

Equineline Representative Kyle Degener will be showing the various features of this free iPad app, how it can be easily customized and how to get the most out of its capabilities.  Both thirty minute seminars will be held in the OBS sales pavilion. Starting times are 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. 

Kyle will be available for questions afterwards.  All horsemen are welcome. 

The seminars will be held the day before the 2012 OBS Fall Mixed Sale. A total of 420 horses are cataloged for the two-day sale, scheduled to begin Tuesday, October 16th at 1:00 p.m. with hip numbers 1-172 selling in the Consignor Preferred session. Hip numbers 173 – 420 sell on Wednesday, October 17th in the Open Session starting at 10:30 a.m.

Unbeaten Spring Venture wins Woodbine’s Mazarine Stakes

Stoneway Farm LLC and Gary Barber’s Spring Venture took the overland route in Woodbine’s Mazarine Stakes (G3), but losing ground made little difference as the 2-year-old old daughter of Spring At Last took charge after turning for home and pulled away to a length and a half victory. Three for three with two graded stakes wins, she’s earned $310, 821. She was sold for $320,000 by Eisaman Equine, Agent, at the 2012 OBS June Sale. watch her under tack video

Scuderia Vama di Renzo Dolzan’s Gordol du Mes scored his first stakes win on October 7, taking the Criterium Nazioanale on the turf in at Milan by 2-1/2 lengths. The 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by Exchange Rate, consigned by Sienna Farms LLC to the 2011 OBS August Sale, has three wins and a second in his first four starts.

Spring in the Air scores in Keeneland’s Alcibiades Stakes

John Oxley’s Spring in the Air moved into contention on the far turn in Keeneland’s $400, 000 Alcibiades Stakes (G1), then ran past the leaders in the final furlong to score by a length. It’s the first stakes win for the 2-year-old daughter of Spring at Last, second to fellow OBS graduate Spring Venture (June ’12) in Woodbine’s Natalama Stakes (G2) last month. Sold by Eddie Woods, Agent, at the 2012 OBS March Sale for $130,000, she’s now 4-2-2-0 and has earned $371,519 to date. watch her under tack video

Merit Man leads 1-2-3 OBS sweep of Santa Anita’s Tim Conway Stakes

Bruce Chandler, Double Kee LLC & Purple Shamrock Racing’s Merit Man is two for two and a stakes winner after his 5-1/2 length victory led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep the $100, 000 Tim Conway Stakes at Santa Anita. South Floyd (June ’12, March ’12) was second, with No Rachmones (March ’12) checking in third. The winner, a 2-year-old colt by With Distinction, is a two-time OBS graduate, consigned to the 2010 Fall Mixed Sale by Hartley DeRenzo Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent before they sold him for $75,000 at the 2012 April Sale. Champion Musical Romance preps for Breeders’ Cup

Pinnacle Racing Stables and trainer Bill Kaplan’s champion Musical Romance warmed up for her upcoming Breeders’ Cup appearance with a workmanlike three quarter length victory over Golden Mystery (Adena Springs ’08) in Calder’s $55, 000 Mike Sherman Memorial Stakes on Saturday. It’s the ninth stakes win for the 5-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Concorde’s Tune, sold for $22,000 by breeder Ocala Stud at the 2009 OBS April Sale. The 2011 champion Female Sprinter is now 40-12-8-8 and has earned $1, 681,885.  watch her under tack video

Ike & Dawn Thrash’s graded stakes winner Hurricane Ike picked up his first win of the year on Saturday at Hoosier Park, scoring by a length over fellow OBS graduate Good Lord (June ’09) in the $104,300 Michael G. Schaefer Memorial Mile Stakes. Sold for $115,000 by Southern Breeze Ranch, Agent, at the 2008 OBS August Sale, the 5-year-old Florida-bred horse by Graeme Hall improved his record to 25-5-6-3 and boosted his bankroll to $508,070. 

Frank Calabrese’s well-traveled graded winner Romacaca added Hawthorne’s $100,000 Indian Maid Stakes to her resume Saturday with a 1-3/4 length wire to wire victory. That’s nine stakes wins for the 6-year-old Florida-bred mare by Running Stag, consigned by breeder Cashel Stud to the 2007 OBS August Sale and the 2008 OBS April Sale. Closing in on a million, she’s now 31-15-5-3 with earnings of $866,992.  watch her under tack video

Ray Trisler’s Ladystarturengine scored her first stakes win at Hoosier Park on Saturday, taking the $88,850 City of Anderson Stakes by a length and three quarters, with fellow OBS graduate Over the Counter (April ‘12) checking in third. It’s the second straight win for the 2-year-old filly by Jump Start, consigned by Eversole Thoroughbreds, Agent, to the 2012 OBS April Sale. She’s now 5-2-1-2 and has earned $98,907 to date. watch her under tack video

GZS Stable LLC’s Dual Exhauzt took the early lead in Calder’s $72,750 Kenny Noe Jr. Handicap on Saturday and stayed there all the way for his first stakes victory, holding off fellow OBS graduate Black Diamond Cat (August ’08, January ’08) by a length and a quarter. The 4-year-old Florida-bred colt by Alke is a two-time OBS graduate, sold by Journeyman Bloodstock, Agent, at the 2009 October Sale before being purchased for $55,000 out of the Lynne Boutte consignment at the 2010 April Sale. Unbeaten Executiveprivilege leads 1-2-3 OBS sweep of Santa Anita’s Chandelier Stakes

Karl Watson, Mike Pegram & Paul Weitman’s unbeaten Executiveprivilege tried two turns for the first time in Saturday’s $250,000 Chandelier Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita. No problem. The 2-year-old daughter of First Samurai went to the lead, pulled away after half a mile and widened from there, scoring by 6-1/4 lengths over fellow OBS graduate Scarlet Strike (March ’12), with Miss Empire (March ’12) completing the OBS trifecta. It’s the third graded stakes win for the 2012 OBS April Sale topper, sold by Eddie Woods, Agent for $650,000. She’s now five for five, and has earned $540,000 to date. watch her under tack video

Flat Out repeats in Belmont’s Jockey Club Gold Cup

Preston Stables LLC’s Flat Out captured Belmont’s $1, 000, 000 Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) for the second straight year, rallying to catch front-running Stay Thirsty in the final yards and winning by a head. It’s the third graded stakes win for the 6-year-old Florida-bred son of Flatter, now 19-6-4-2 with $2,042,383 in earnings. He was sold for $11,000 as a weanling by Thoroughstock, Agent, at the 2006 OBS Fall Mixed Sale

Unhedged takes Presque Isle Debutante Stakes

Klaravich Stables Inc. & William H. Lawrence’s Unhedged is three for three and a stakes winner after taking the lead turning for home in the $100, 000 Presque Isle Debutante Stakes then holding off the late charge of fellow OBS grad Tiny Bear (April ’12, August ’11, January ’11) to win by a neck. Sold for $10, 000 by Summerfield, Agent For Westbury Stables, at the 2010 OBS October Sale, the 2-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Broken Vow has earned $114,600 to date.
