For Immediate Release
Coming off a 2025 sales season ripe with record-setting results, Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company hosts its first live auction of 2026 when its January Winter Mixed Sale takes place Jan. 27 with 307 entries, including supplements, catalogued.
The single-session auction will begin at 11 a.m. ET and features newly turned yearlings, broodmares, and broodmare prospects.
Bidding started at noon ET on Monday for the OBSOnline January Horses of Racing Age and Two-Year-Old Sale, which runs until Jan. 30. Several of the horses will be available for inspection on the OBS sale grounds during the live sale. Bidding will close at noon ET Jan. 30. Visit obsonline.com to view the sale.
Market strength was the theme throughout the Thoroughbred auction arena in 2025, highlighted by OBS establishing new marks at each of its juvenile exercises and across-the-board gains during its October Yearling Sale. That robust demand, particularly for short yearlings, has sellers cautiously optimistic more positive figures are on the horizon.
“I think (the market strength) should continue. I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t so I’m pretty hopeful,” said consignor Colin Brennan of Highlander Training Center. “In terms of the general market, it’s been a record-setting year particularly the weanling market. I’ve noticed a lot more end users buying earlier and spending a little bit more knowing that if you buy them now, it’s almost like spending money to save money down the line, that kind of mind frame.
“I think there was a little more strength through the middle market. The lower market seemed to continue to struggle if you will. But it was nice to see the middle market was a little bit better and that’s because there were so many people shopping at the top end, you figure, you have to get some kind of stock.”
