Millionaires Cabo Spirit, Jaxon Traveler lead parade weekend of stakes winners

OBS grads posted a pair of graded wins on Saturday at Santa Anita.

Kretz Racing LLC’s Cabo Spirit is now a millionaire, going to the front at the start of the $750,000 John Henry Turf Championship Stakes (G2) and leading all the way, holding on gamely to score by a length. It’s the second graded stakes win for the 5-year-old son of Pioneerof the Nile, consigned to the 2021 April Sale by Eddie Woods, Agent, and purchased for $575,000 by Gayle Van Leer, Agent, after speeding an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5. Rancho Temescal LLC, Red Baron’s Barn LLC and Rodney E. Orr’s First Peace, off the pace in the early going of the $750,000 Eddie D. Stakes (G2), rallied on the inside, took the lead a sixteenth out and was best by a length and a half at the wire.  It’s the third stakes win and first graded victory for the 4-year-old colt by Funtastic, trained by Mark Glatt, now 15-5-5-2 with $778,520 in earnings. True North Stable and Bloom Racing Stable’s (Jeffrey Bloom) Dresden Row (Lord Nelson – Elle Special) sat just off the pace in Saturday’s $135,000 Durham Cup Stakes (G3) at Woodbine, rallied to the lead between horses at the head of the stretch and held on gamely to score by a neck. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old son of Lord Nelson, purchased out of the Little Farm Equine consignment at the 2023 OBS Spring Sale after speeding an Under Tack quarter in: 21 2/5. David S. Romanik and Ronald B. Spatz’s Most Handsome (Neolithic – Precious Lady) is two for two and a stakes winner after taking Saturday’s $95,000 Hollywood Beach Stakes at Gulfstream Park. After pressing the pace, he took charge on the turn, opened daylight in the stretch and held off a late charge to win by a head, with fellow OBS graduate Noble N Magical (Noble Bird – Magical Holiday) checking in third. Trained by Ron Spatz, the 2-year-old Florida-bred son of Neolithic has earned $98,650 to date after breezing an eighth in :9 4/5 and going through the ring, consigned by On Track, Agent, at the 2024 OBS March Sale. breeze/walk video

OBS graduates captured a pair of stakes races at Remington Park on Sunday.

West Point Thoroughbreds’ Jaxon Traveler (Munnings – Listen Boy) is the latest OBS millionaire after a frontrunning 3-1/2 length victory over fellow OBS graduate Run Classic (Runhappy – Pledge Pin) in the $100,000 David M. Vance Stakes.  That’s nine stakes wins for the 6-year-old graded stakes winning son of Munnings, trained by Steve Asmussen, now 33-11-8-5 with $1,017,798 in earnings. After breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat at the 2020 OBS Spring Sale, he was  purchased for $140,000 out of the Grassroots Training & Sales consignment by L.E.B., Agent for West Point Thoroughbreds, Inc. watch his under tack video   Spring Sale walking video

Resolute Racing’s Dana’s Beauty (Not This Time – City Siren) led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of the $75,000 Ricks Memorial Stakes, taking over on the turn and drawing away to victory by 6-1/4 lengths. Colors of the Wind (Constitution – Wellington Beauty) was second with Gastown (Vancouver (AUS) – Tex Appeal), running third. It’s the third stakes win for the 6-year-old mare by Not This Time, a two-time OBS graduate, sold first by Bobby Jones Equine at the 2019 October Yearling Sale then sold for $70,000 by Blue River Bloodstock, Agent, at the 2020 Spring Sale after working an Under Tack quarter in :21 3/5.
