Twirling Candy filly tops second June Sale session

Hip 509, Brown Sugar, a daughter of Twirling Candy consigned by Tom McCrocklin, Agent, went to Resolute Bloodstock for $400,000 to top the second session of the 2024 OBS June Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age. The bay filly, whose Under Tack quarter in :20 2/5 on Thursday was the sale’s co-fastest, is a full sister to Preakness (G1) winner Rombauer, out of Cashmere, by Cowboy Cal.  walk/breeze video

  • Tom Durant went to $310,000 for Hip 624, a daughter of Justify consigned by Hartley / DeRenzo Thoroughbreds LLC. The bay filly, whose eighth in :9 4/5 on Friday was the sale’s co-fastest, is out of Etching, by Paynter, a daughter of Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Summerly. walk/breeze video
  • Hip 387, a son of Vekoma consigned by Blas Perez Stables, was purchased by Arnold Bennewith for $195,000.   • Hip 647, Qittin’ Time, a son of Lookin At Lucky who breezed an eighth on Friday in :10 2/5, was sold to Wise Racing for $120,000.   • Hip 658, a daughter of Catalina Cruiser consigned by Camelot Acres Racing and Sales, Agent, was purchased by Emerald Sales, Agent for K E M Stables, for $120,000. For the session, 193 horses brought a total of $6,911,900 compared with 216 selling for a total of $7,561,200 at last year’s second session. The average price was $35,813, compared to $35,006 in 2023 while the median price was $20,000, identical to a year ago. The buyback percentage was 22.8%; it was 15.6% last year.

The June Sale continues Friday at 10:0 a.m. Hip No.’s 701 – 1115 will be offered for sale. As always, the session will be streamed live on the OBS website at obssales.com and YouTube, as well as via the Blood-Horse, Daily Racing Form, TDN and Past The Wire websites.
