Hip No. 891, a son of Nyquist consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, was purchased for $550,000 by Donato Lanni, Agent for Zedan Racing Stable, to top the third session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2024 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. The bay colt, who breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat, is out of grade one stakes winner Acoma, by Empire Maker, a half sister to graded stakes winner and U.A.E. Horse of the Year Festival of Light,

  • Hip No. 643, a daughter of Bolt d’Oro consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, went to Woodford Thoroughbreds for $450,000. The gray or roan filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat, is a half sister to stakes placed Blue Squall out of Sky o’ Blue, by Henny Hughes, from the family of graded stakes winner Night in Reno.
  • Hip No. 717, a son of War of Will consigned by Grassroots Training & Sales LLC, was sold to Cherie DeVaux, Agent, for $400,000. The dark bay or brown colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat, is out of stakes placed Sunday Sonnet, by Any Given Saturday, a half sister to graded stakes winner Pianist.
  • Hip No. 613, a daughter of Munnings consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, went to John C. Kimmel, Agent for Nedlaw Stables, for $350,000.  The chestnut filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat, is out of Sheriffa, by Posse, a half sister to stakes winner Tiergan.
  • Justin Casse, Agent, went to $350,000 for Hip No. 637, a daughter of Omaha Beach consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent. The dark bay or brown filly, whose eighth in :9 4/5 was the session’s co-fastest, is out of Sister Margaret, by Pulpit, a half sister to stakes winner Dance Gal Dance.
  • Hip No. 638, a son of Maclean’s Music consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, was purchased by Taproot Bloodstock, Agent, for $350,000. The chestnut colt is out of Six Ornaments, by Flatter, a half sister to graded stakes winner Eldaafer.
  • Lael Stable paid $350,000 for Hip No. 886, a son of Army Mule consigned by Grassroots Training & Sales LLC. The chestnut colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat, is a half brother to stakes placed OBS graduate Droppin G’s out of Zooey, by Exchange Rate.
  • Hip No. 787, a son of Bolt d’Oro who turned in Friday’s fastest Under Tack eighth in :9 3/5, went to Reeves Thoroughbred Racing for $330,000. Consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, the bay colt is a half brother to stakes winner Blame J D out of Tipping Point, by Speightstown.
  • Hip No. 903, a son of Justify consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, was sold to Pedro Lanz, Agent for KAS Stables, for $325,000. The bay colt, who turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5, is a half brother to graded stakes placed stakes winner Whoa Nellie out of Allegheny Angel, by Medaglia d’Oro, a daughter of grade one stakes winner Awesome Humor.
  • Phil D’Amato, Agent, paid $320,000 for Hip No. 721, a son of Volatile consigned by Randy Miles, Agent. The gray or roan colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5, is a half brother to stakes placed Bernabreezy out of stakes winner Super Allison, by Super Saver.
  • Hip No. 611, a daughter of Maclean’s Music also consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, was sold to Mike Ryan, Agent, for $300,000. The bay filly, who breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5, is a half sister to grade one stakes winning OBS Spring Sale graduate Varda out of She’ll Be Right, by Sky Mesa.
  • Hip No. 633, a son of Thousand Words who breezed an Under Tack quarter in :21 flat, was purchased for $300,000 by Spendthrift Farm LLC. Consigned by Tom McCrocklin, Agent, the chestnut colt is out of Silver Shimmer, by Tale of the Cat, a half sister to champion Esidio.
  • Hip No. 733, a daughter of Tiz the Law consigned by Caliente Thoroughbreds, Agent, was sold for $300,000 to Klaravich Stable, Inc. The chestnut filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat, is out of Sweetbaby, by Candy Ride (ARG), a daughter of grade one stakes winner Rutherienne.
  • John Wade went to $300,000 for Hip No. 868, a daughter of Not This Time consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent. The gray or roan filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5, is out of stakes winner Winter, by Awesome Again, from the family of graded stakes winner Venezuelan Hug.

For the session, 147 horses sold for a total of $15,122,000 compared with 167 horses grossing $20,856,000 at last year’s third session. The average price was $102,871, compared with $124,886 a year ago, while the median price was $65,000 compared with $60,000 last year. The buyback percentage was 21.8%; it was 21.9% in 2023.

The Spring Sale’s fourth and final session begins on Friday, April 19th at 10:30 a.m. with Hip No.’s 607 – 1208 set to go through the ring, streamed live via the OBS website at obssales.com and via the Blood-Horse, Daily Racing Form, TDN and Past The Wire websites.
