Gary Barber’s Witwatersrand (Connect – Carta deOro) tracked the leaders in the $150,000 Mazarine Stakes (G3) at Woodbine, rallied and charged between horses a furlong from home and drew away to win by 2-3/4 lengths with frontrunning OBS October/March graduate Mystic Lake ( Mo Twon – Salty Soul) settling for third. It’s the first stakes win for the 2-year-old filly by Connect, trained by Mark Casse, now 3-2-0-1 with earnings of $107,031. Doubledown Stables, Inc. War At Sea (War Front – Serene Melody) scored his first graded stakes win in the $100,000 Golden Gate Handicap (G3), closing with a rush to get up late and win by a neck. It’s the second stakes victory for the 4-year-old son of War Front, purchased for $525,000 out of the Eddie Woods consignment at the 2021 OBS March Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. It’s the fifth stakes win for the graded stakes winning daughter of Classic Empire, purchased for $175,000 out of the Wavertree Stables consignment at the 2021 OBS Spring Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. Nice Guys Stables’ Where’s Kris (Twirling Candy – Sea Queen) pressed the pace in Sunday’s $150,000 Nashua Stakes at Aqueduct, battled for the lead down the stretch and prevailed by three quarters of a length at the wire. His first stakes victory leaves him 3-2-0-1 with earnings of $139,000 and caps a big weekend for trainer Rick Dutrow. Quintessential Racing Florida LLC, Rocky Top Stable and LEMB Stables’ Dancing N Dixie (Neolithic – Foolhearted Woman) stepped into stakes company for the first time in Gulfstream’s $65,000 Our Dear Peggy Stakes. The 2-year-old Florida-bred filly by Neolithic turned in a sustained drive in the stretch and prevailed by half a length, with OBS March graduate De Regreso (Auible – Texas Gem) settling for third.
