Pierre Jean Amestoy, Jr., Leslie A. Amestoy and Roger K. Beasley’s Practical Move took a step forward on the Derby Trail in Santa Anita’s $402,000 San Felipe Stakes (G2). The 3-year-old son of Practical Joke found room inside on the turn, took the lead turning for home and drew away to score by 2-1/2 lengths, with fellow OBS graduate Skinner (April ’22) checking In third. It’s the second stakes victory for the Los Alamitos Futurity (G2) winner, trained by Tim Yakteen, now 6-3-1-2 with $434,200 in earnings. Andrew N. Warren and Rania Warren’s Raise Cain also improved his position on the Derby Trail. Unhurried early in Aqueduct’s $300,000 Gotham Stakes (G3), he rallied to reach contention on the turn, took the lead coming to the eighth pole and drew away to a 7-1/2 length victory. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Violence, consigned to the 2022 OBS June Sale by Eisaman Equine, Agent, where he went through the ring after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 3/5. NBS Stable and Elements Racing, LLC’s Danse Macabre stalked the leaders in Gulfstream’s $200,000 Herecomesthebride Stakes (G3), took the lead a furlong from home and held on gamely to win a three-horse photo by a head. It’s the second stakes win for the 3-year-old daughter of Army Mule, purchased for $55,000 out of the Tom McCrocklin consignment at the 2022 OBS March Sale after speeding an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5. Tami Bobo and Lugamo Racing Stable LLC’s Congruent also picked up Derby points on Saturday. Last of twelve early in the $150,000 John Battaglia Memorial Stakes at Turfway Park, he rallied on the turn, blew past the entire field in the stretch and scored by 3-1/2 lengths over fellow OBS graduate Scoobie Quando (June ’22). That’s two stakes wins for the 3-year-old colt by Tapit, trained by Antonio Sano, now 9-3-0-2 with $240,825 in earnings.
