Stable, Inc’s Stirling Drive led a 1-2-3 OBS April sweep of Saturday’s $100,000 Not Surprising Stakes at Gulfstream, tracking the lead early, taking command in the stretch and holding off a late charge by Art G Is Back (April ’18) by a neck, with Forever Mo (April ’18) a nose back in third. It’s the second stakes win for 3-year-old Florida-bred colt by Verrazano, purchased for $75,000 out of the Off the Hook consignment at the 2018 April Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 flat. OBS grads picked up a pair of stakes wins at Prairie Meadows on Saturday night.
In the $65,000 Cyclones Handicap, Claim To Fame Stable’s Net Gain came from last of six, circled horses into the stretch and ran past the leaders late to score by a length. It’s the second straight win and fouth stakes victory for the 7-year-old son of Include, trained by Clinton C. Stuart, now 46-8-7-10 with earnings of $478,256. He turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 before he was purchased for $325,000 out of the Scanlon Training Center consignment at the 2014 OBS April Sale. watch his under tack video
Half an hour later, Doubledown Stables, Inc.’s Shanghai Tariff pressed the pace in the $100,000 Saylorville Stakes, took command on the turn, opened a big lead in the stretch and cruised home a winner by 2-1/2 lengths. It’s the first stakes win for the 4-year-old filly by Shanghai Bobby, who breezed an Under Tack eighth in:10 1/5 before she was sold for $100,000 by RiceHorse Stables (Brandon & Ali Rice), Agent, at the 2017 OBS March Sale.
