Beach Haven Thoroughbreds LLC’s Sassy Agnes was a maiden going in to Saturday’s $112,388 Lady Finger Stakes at Finger Lakes, but battled for the lead from the start, took command nearing the head of the stretch, opened up daylight in mid-stretch and held off a late run to win by three quarters of a length. The 2-year-old daughter of Central Banker, trained by Linda Rice, is now 3-1-1-0 and has earned $83,182. The 3-year-old graded stakes placed daughter of First Dude, now 8-3-2-1 for trainer Mark Casse, has earned $217,687 to date. Starship Stables’ Starship Bonita overcame a wide trip in Saturday’s $100,000 Sheer Drama Stakes at Gulfstream, opened up daylight after straightening away in the stretch and rolled from there to a 2-3/4 length victory over fellow OBS graduate Ms Meshak (August ’16). It’s the third stakes win for the 3-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Gone Astray, now 10-3-3 with $492,775 in earnings for trainer Steve Dwoskin. Vallejo’s Deland romped to his second straight mainland stakes win in Friday’s $75,000 Mo Exception Stakes at Gulfstream Park, taking command on the turn for home and effortlessly drawing away to an eight length win over fellow OBS graduate Hy Riverside. The 6-year-old Florida-bred son of Gottcha Gold, a multiple graded stakes winner in Puerto Rico, trained by Victor Barboza, Jr., is now 22-12-6-2 and has earned $313,819 to date.
