Hip No. 211, a son of Scat Daddy consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, was sold to Carlo Vaccarezza for $650,000 to top the first session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2018 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age. The dark bay or brown colt, whose eighth in :9 4/5 at Thursday’s Under Tack session was the sale’s co-fastest at the distance, is out of Satulah, by Gone West, a daughter of graded stakes winner War Thief.
- Hip No. 61, a daughter of Cairo Prince consigned by Price Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent was purchased by Baoma Corp. for $375,000. The bay filly, a half sister to stakes winning OBS graduate Stormin’ Lyon out of Motel Lass, by Bates Motel, turned in the sale’s fastest quarter on Thursday, stopping the timer in :20 2/5.
- Hip No. 41, Mo Mississippi, a son of Uncle Mo consigned by Gayle Woods, Agent, went to Exline-Border Racing LLC, Marette Farrell Agent, for $370,000. The bay colt, whose three eighths in :32 2/5 at Thursday’s Under Tack session was the sale’s fastest work at the distance, is out of out of Mississippi Queen, by Artie Schiller, a half sister to grade one stakes winner Asi Siempre. His breeze, the co-fastest three eighths ever by a two-year-old over the OBS surface, equaled the work turned in by grade one stakes winner Celestine at the 2014 OBS June Sale, also consigned by Gayle Woods.
- Justin Casse, Agent, went to $240,000 for Hip No. 112, a daughter of Quality Road consigned by McKathan Bros., Agent. The bay filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat on Thursday, is a half sister to graded stakes placed stakes winner Rock Candy out of Party Chatter, by Pleasant Colony.
- Hip No. 235, a son of New Year’s Day consigned by Southern Chase Farm, Inc. (Greg & Karen Dodd), Agent, was purchased for $205,000 by Robert Barbara, Agent for Joseph G. Bucci. The chestnut colt, who sped a quarter in :20 4/5 on Friday, is out of Sign Off, by Distorted Humor, a daughter of grade one stakes winner Imperial Gesture.
- Calumet Farm paid $165,000 for Hip No. 247, a dark bay or brown colt by Flatter who also breezed a quarter in :20 4/5 on Friday. Consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, he’s a half brother to graded stakes placed stakes winner Skipalute out of Skipstone, by Montbrook.
- Hip No. 210, Prize Money, a daughter of Orb consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, was sold to Joe Sharp, Agent, for $155,000. The bay filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 2/5 on Thursday, is out of Satisfaction, by Awesome Again, a half sister to grade one winner Dancing Forever.
- Joe Sharp, Agent, also went to $150,000 for Hip No. 3, a son of Cross Traffic consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent. The dark bay or brown colt, who worked an eighth on Thursday in :10 1/5, is out of stakes winner Madrilena, by Stormy Atlantic, a daughter of stakes winner Brush Over.
For the session, 171 horses grossed $6,460,500, compared with 221 selling for a total of $7,260,000 at last year’s first session. The average was $37,781, up 15% compared with $32,851 a year ago, while the median price was $20,000, a gain of 17.6% compared to $17,000 in 2017. The buyback percentage was 21.5%; it was 14.34% last year.
