Blended Citizen takes Belmont’s Peter Pan Stakes

Greg Hall and Sayjay Racing LLC’s Blended Citizen warmed up for a run at the Belmont Stakes (G1),  charging wide on the turn to reach contention in Saturday’s $350,000 Peter Pan Stakes (G3) at Belmont, taking command inside the sixteenth pole and easing away to a 1-1/2 length victory. It’s the second graded stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Proud Citizen, purchased for $85,000 out of the Wavertree Stables (Ciaran Dunne) consignment at the 2017 OBS March Sale after he breezed an Under Tack quarter in :22 1/5. Trained by Doug O’Neill, he’s now 10-3-0-2 and has earned $406,854 to date. watch his under tack video

Kent Spellman’s Kirby’s Penny tried stakes company for the first time in the $200,000 Vagrancy Handicap (G3) on Saturday at Belmont Park, rallied from just off the pace to wear down the leaders in the stretch and won going away by a length and a half. The 5-year-old daughter of Macho Uno, trained by Wesley Ward, is now 12-7-2-0 and has earned $338,916. Consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, to the 2015 OBS March Sale, she went through the ring after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5.  watch her under tack video

David Melin, Leon Ellman and Laurie Plesa’s Mr. Jordan tracked the leader in Gulfstream’s $100,000 Big Drama Stakes on Saturday, took over leaving the eighth pole and scored by a length and three quarters, with fellow OBS graduate Hy Riverside (April ’14) checking in third. The 6-year-old Florida-bred son of Kantharos is a two-time OBS graduate, sold by Summerfield, Agent, at the 2013 August Sale then purchased for $155,000 out of the de Meric Sales consignment at the 2014 April Sale after he breezed a  quarter in :21 2/5 at the Under Tack Show. A six time stakes winner for trainer Eddie Plesa, he has compiled a 29-9-6-6 record and has earned $738,560. watch his under tack video

 

Woodford Racing LLC’s Engage overcame a sluggish start in Sunday’s $90,000 Gold Fever Stakes at Belmont, battled down the stretch in the mud and was best by a nose. Fellow OBS graduate A Different Style (March ’17) finished third. The graded stakes winning 3-year-old colt by Into Mischief, who took Belmont’s Futurity Stakes (G3) at two, is now 5-3-2-0 for trainer Chad Brown and has earned $266,400 to date. He worked an eighth in :9 4/5 at the Under Tack Show before he was purchased by Woodford for $550,000 out of the Crupi’s New Castle Farm consignment at the 2017 OBS March Sale. watch his under tack video

Kaleem Shah’s Tijori got her career off on the right foot Friday at Santa Anita, taking the lead at the start of a $55,035 maiden special weight test and never looking back en route to a 3-1/4 length victory. Trained by Simon Callaghan, who indicated he’s pointing her for either the Astoria Stakes on Belmont weekend or a trip to Royal Ascot for the Queen Mary (G2), she earned $32,400 for her effort. The 2-year-old daughter of Will Take Charge was purchased for $525,000 out of the de Meric Sales consignment at the 2018 OBS March Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show.  watch her under tack video
