The catalog for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2018 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age is now available via the OBS website at obssales.com. The online catalog’s main page contains a link to a sortable master index providing searchable pedigree and consignor information as well as access to pedigree updates occurring since the catalog was printed. Advanced search and filter capability has been added to allow shortlist creation. A link to instructions for using the new features can be found in the index header and a step by step tutorial is available in the index as well.
The iPad version of the catalog can be accessed via the equineline Sales Catalog App. The App allows users to download and view the catalog, receive updates and results, record notes and also provides innovative search, sort and rating capability. There are 845 two-year-olds and seven older horses cataloged for the three-day sale, with all sessions beginning at 10:00 a.m. Hip No.’s 1 – 300 will sell on Wednesday, June 13th; Hip No.’s 301 – 600 will be offered on Thursday, June 14th and Hip No.’s 601 – 852 plus supplements will sell on Friday, June 15th. Supplemental entries are being accepted until May 23rd.
There are four Under Tack Sessions. Hip No.’s 1 – 225 will go to the track on Thursday, June 7th, Hip No.’s 226 – 450 will breeze on Friday, June 8th, Hip No.’s 451 – 675 work on Saturday, June 9th, and 676 – 852 plus supplements will go on Sunday, June 10th. All Under Tack sessions begin at 7:30 a.m.
The Under Tack Show and Sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the DRF, TDN and BloodHorse websites.
Winning stakes at a pace close to one a week, OBS June graduates have won or placed in 172 stakes races since the beginning of 2017, headed by Rockingham Ranch’s Stormy Liberal, winner of Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) and a game second in the Al Quoz Sprint (G1) on the Dubai World Cup undercard. The 6-year-old son of Stormy Atlantic has won or placed in eight stakes, including five graded races, on his way to compiling a 25-8-8-1 career record and earnings of $1,213,570 for trainer Peter Miller. Charles Fipke’s Seeking the Soul enjoyed a productive year at the races, climaxed by a victory in the Clark Handicap (G1) at Churchill Downs. The 5-year-old colt by Perfect Soul (IRE), trained by Dallas Stewart, is now 18-5-3-5 and has bankrolled $1,401,162 to date. Ironhorse Racing Stable LLC’s Bucchero is a five time stakes winner. He was consigned by Southern Chase Farm (Greg & Karen Dodd), Agent, to the 2014 OBS June Sale where he sped a quarter in :21 flat at the Under Tack Show. The 6-year-old son of Kantharos, trained by Tim Glyshaw, has earned $789,741 to date and has a 27-10-6-3 career record. His high water mark of the past year was his victory in October in the Woodford Stakes (G2) at Keeneland, and he recently returned to Kentucky to finish second in Keeneland’s Shakertown Stakes (G2) in April and third this past Saturday in the Twin Spires Turf Sprint (G3) on Derby Day at Churchill Downs. watch his under tack video
The 2018 sale boasts the strongest stallion roster in the history of OBS June. Bodemeister and Scat Daddy, the sires of the last two Kentucky Derby winners are represented, as is Candy Ride (ARG) sire of Horse of the Year Gun Runner. The rest of the top 15 on the general sire list have offspring in the sale, including Blame, Curlin, Flatter, Ghostzapper, Hard Spun, Into Mischief, Kitten’s Joy, Malibu Moon, Medaglia d’Oro, Quality Road, Tapit, and Uncle Mo. As wide as it is deep, the June stallion roster also includes Bernardini, Distorted Humor, Giant’s Causeway, Pioneerof the Nile, Speightstown, Union Rags and War Front.
OBS June graduate Goldencents heads a group of exciting young stallions who’s first crop race in 2018, including Florida-based He’s Had Enough and Uncaptured, who has already sired his first winner. This list also includes Cairo Prince, Central Banker, Cross Traffic, Fed Biz, Mucho Macho Man, Real Solution, Strong Mandate, Verrazano and Will Take Charge.
