The catalog for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2018 Spring Sale of Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training is now available via the OBS website at obssales.com. The online catalog’s main page contains a link to a sortable master index providing searchable pedigree and consignor information as well as access to pedigree updates occurring since the catalog was printed.
The sortable master index has been updated with advanced search and filter capability and to allow shortlist creation. A link to instructions for using the new features can be found in the index header and a step by step tutorial is available in the index as well.
The iPad version of the catalog can be accessed via the equineline Sales Catalog App. The App allows users to download and view the catalog, receive updates and results, record notes and also provides innovative search, sort and rating capability. A total of 1,222 juveniles have been cataloged for the four-day sale, set for Tuesday through Friday, April 24th – 27th with all sessions beginning at 10:30 a.m. Hips 1-305 will sell on Tuesday, Hips 307-612 on Wednesday, Hips 613-918 will be offered Thursday and Hips 919-1222 on Friday
The Under Tack Show will span six days, beginning Monday, April 16th and continuing through Saturday, April 21st. Hips 1-204 will breeze Monday, Hips 205-408 go on Tuesday, Hips 409-612 on Wednesday, Hips 613-815 go Thursday, Hips 816-1018 on Friday and Hips 1019-1222 go on Saturday. All six sessions will begin at 8:00 a.m. The Under Tack Show and Sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the DRF and Blood-Horse websites.
The Spring Sale has grown in stature in recent years, and has become a leading international marketplace. Its graduates have won races at the highest level from coast to coast as well as overseas. The latest international star is Green Fields Co Ltd.’s Mr Melody, purchased by Narvick International for $400,000 out of the Harris Training Center consignment at last year’s Sale. This past Saturday he came from off the pace to take the Chunichi Sports Sho Falcon Stakes (G3) at Japan’s Chukyo Racecourse by a length and a quarter. It was the first stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Scat Daddy, who turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat before going through the ring. Earlier in March, Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi’s Rayya captured the UAE Oaks (G3) at Meydan, cruising to victory by 3-3/4 lengths. It’s the first stakes win for the daughter of Tiz Wonderful, trained by Doug Watson, now 4-2-2-0 with earnings of $244,507 to date. She breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show before she was purchased out of the Shooting Star Sales LLC consignment at the 2017 OBS April Sale. watch her under tack video
Rayya and Mr Melody are the fifth and sixth graded stakes winners to emerge from last year’s sale. The first was Stephanie Seymour Brant’s Significant Form, who took the Miss Grillo Stakes (G3) at Belmont Park in her second start. The daughter of Creative Cause sped Under Tack quarter in :21 flat before she was purchased for $575,000 out of the Eddie Woods consignment. Now breezing at Palm Meadows readying for a return to the races, she’s 3-1-0-0 for trainer Chad Brown, and has earned $170,415 to date. watch her under tack video
Gary Barber’s Wonder Gadot is a two-time graded stakes winner, taking Woodbine’s Mazarine Stakes (G3) in October and the Demoiselle Stakes (G2) at Aqueduct in December after she was purchased for $325,000 out of the Eisaman Equine consignment after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. She’s now 7-3-1-2 with earnings of $362,973 for trainer Mark Casse, and her next start is the Fair Grounds Oaks Stakes (Gr. 2) this Saturday. watch her under tack video
Mark Casse also trains Gary Barber and John C. Oxley’s 2017 Spring Sale graduate Road to Victory, winner of the Golden Rod Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs in November. The Quality Road filly is two for two and has earned $144,670 to date. Allen Racing LLC and Bloom Racing Stable LLC’s Midnight Bisou broke her maiden in the Santa Ynez Stakes (G2) in January, and then made it two straight graded stakes wins taking the Santa Ysabel Stakes (G3) in early March. A daughter of OBS graduate Midnight Lute, she turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 prior to her purchase for $80,000 by Jeffrey Bloom out of the Woodford Thoroughbreds consignment. Oxley’s La Coronel is climbing toward the million dollar mark in earnings for trainer Mark Casse, completing her 2017 campaign with a victory in the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes (G1) at Keeneland in October. It was the fourth graded stakes win for the 2016 sale graduate, purchased for $375,000 out of the Winners Circle Thoroughbreds consignment after speeding an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5. Gelfenstein Farm’s Sharp Azteca took Aqueduct’s Cigar Mile (G1) in December for his fourth graded stakes score. The 2015 graduate by Freud is a two time OBS graduate, sold first at the 2014 August Selected Yearling Sale and then purchased for $220,000 at the 2015 April Sale by Gelfenstein Farm from de Meric Sales, Agent for Golden Legacy Stables, after an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. J Stables, Head of Plains Partners LLC, Summers, Kisber and Summers’ Mind Your Biscuits took on the world’s best sprinters in the 2017 Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1) and picked up his second grade one victory. The Chad Summers trainee has four graded stakes wins to his credit, a 20-6-8-3 career record and $2,519,286 in earnings.
