Hip No. 681, a son of Yes It’s True consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, went to Becky Thomas for $100,000 to top the second and final Open session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2015 August Yearling Sale. The bay colt is out of Wild Eyes, by Medaglia d’Oro, a daughter of graded stakes winner Desert Digger.
Hip No. 735, a bay filly by Big Drama consigned by Abbie Road Farm (Lisa McGreevy), Agent, was sold to Crupi’s New Castle Farm, J. J. Crupi, Agent, for $45,000. She’s out of Bay Point Countess, by Bernstein, a half sister to graded stakes placed stakes winner Dawn Princess.
Big Drama also sired Hip No. 728, a bay filly consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent and sold to Quarter Pole Enterprises LLC for $40,000. She’s out of Awesome Thrill, by Awesome Again, from the family of graded stakes placed stakes winner Honey’s Answer.
Hip No. 767, a chestnut colt by Midshipman also went for $40,000, going from Get Away Farm to de Meric Sales. He’s out of Caitrionell, by Giant’s Causeway, a full sister to stakes placed Niagara Falls.
For the session, 198 yearlings sold for a total of $2,344,200, compared with 230 horses bringing $2,894,600 at the corresponding session in 2014. The average price was $11,839 compared with $12,585 a year ago while the median price was $9,000 up from $8,000 in 2014. The buyback percentage was 18.8%; it was 31.7% last year.
For the two Open sessions, 408 horses sold for a total of $5,494,400, compared with 496 grossing $6,397,600 a year ago. The average price was $13,467, up 4.4% compared with last year’s $12,898 while the median price was $9,750 a gain of 22% compared with 2014’s $8,000. The buyback percentage was 19%; it was 28.8% a year ago.
At Tuesday’s Selected session, 155 horses sold for a total of $6,908,500 compared with 170 grossing $7,830,700 at the 2014 Selected Yearling Sale. The average price was $44,571 compared with $46,063 last year, while the median price was $35,000, identical to last year’s figure. The buyback percentage was 19.3%; it was 27% in 2014. The session and overall sale topper was Hip No. 214, a daughter of Arch consigned by Beth Bayer, Agent, sold to Niall Brennan, Agent for Marc Keller for $320,000. The bay filly is out of graded stakes placed stakes winner Citizen Advocate, by Proud Citizen.
Next on the OBS agenda is the Fall Mixed Sale, including the Horses of Racing Age section, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, October 13 – 14. The extended closing date for the Racing Age section is Monday, September 21st.
