At the fourth and final session of an auction that set records for gross sales and average price, Hip No. 932, a son of Candy Ride (ARG) consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, went to Charles Chu for a June Sale record $680,000 to top the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2015 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age. The gray or roan colt, whose eighth in :9 4/5 was co-fastest at the distance at Friday’s Under Tack session, is out of Spooky Minister, by Deputy Minister, and is a full brother to graded stakes placed Holy Candy.
The price surpassed the sale record of $575,000 set Tuesday for a colt by Scat Daddy, equaled on Wednesday for a son of Into Mischief and again on Thursday for a Super Saver colt.
Conquest Stables LLC went to $425,000 for Hip No. 1072 a dark bay or brown filly by Uncle Mo consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent. Out of Undercover Justice, by Lawyer Ron, a half sister to Sovereign Award winning OBS graduate Negligee, her eighth on Saturday in :9 4/5 equaled the session’s fastest at the distance.
Hip No. 931, a bay filly by Flatter who also breezed an eighth on Friday in :9 4/5 was sold to Triumphant Trio LLC, Linda Rice, Agent, for $400,000. Consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, she’s out of stakes winner Splendid Sound, by Trippi, a half sister to stakes winner Argos Appeal.
Lynn Whiting, Agent for Charles J. Cella, paid $400,000 for Hip No.1081, a son of Speightstown consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent. The dark bay or brown colt, who sped an eighth in :9 4/5 on Saturday, is out of stakes winner Via Veneto, by Orientate, a half sister to grade one stakes winner and Florida sire First Dude.
Hip No. 1156, Busman’s Holiday, by Harlan’s Holiday, brought $200,000, sold by Thomas and Casse, Agent, to J S Company Ltd. The bay colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat on Saturday, is out of graded stakes placed Renaissance Lady, by A.P. Indy, and is a half brother to stakes placed Elusive Schemes.
Hip No. 1127, a dark bay or brown 3-year-old colt by Super Saver consigned by Stephens Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, was sold to Lynn Whiting, Agent for Charles J. Cella, for $230,000 to top the Horses of Racing Age section. Out of Sharp as a Whip, by Successful Appeal, a daughter of stakes winner Dynasharp, he breezed three eighths in :32 4/5 on Saturday.
Hip No. 1114, Altar Boy, a 3-year-old bay colt by Ready’s Image consigned by Woodside Ranch, Agent, who worked the sale’s fastest three eighths in :32 flat, was purchased by Jonathan Thomas, Agent for JAH Racing LLC, for $175,000. He’s out of stakes placed Love You Crazy, by Touch Gold, a half sister to stakes placed Sacred Ground.
For the session, 127 youngsters sold for a total of $5,248,100, compared with 146 two-year-olds grossing $4,798,300 at the corresponding session last year. The average price was $41,324, compared with $32,865 a year ago while the median price was $15,000 compared with $16,500. The buyback percentage was 29%; it was 26% in 2014. Five horses sold for $200,000 or more compared with three a year ago.
Twelve Horses of Racing Age grossed $564,000, compared to 26 bringing $262,000 a year ago. The average was $47,000, compared to $10,077 in 2014 while the median was $16,000; it was $6,500 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 42.8% against 13.3% last year.
For the entire sale, 591 two-year-olds sold for a sale record $23,475,500, breaking the mark of $22,539,500 set last year. The average was a June record $39,722 compared with $31,657 in 2014, eclipsing the previous mark of $33,250 set in 2013. The median price was $18,000 compared with 2014’s record $20,000 figure. The buyback percentage was 25.5%; it was 20% a year ago. Twenty juveniles brought $200,000 or more against ten a year ago.
