Michael Dubb, Bethlehem Stables and Gary Aisquith’s The Lewis Dinner tried stakes company after a maiden win and also had no problem with the raise in class, taking the lead at the start of Sunday’s $100,000 Key Cents Stakes at Aqueduct and never looking back en route to a 3-3/4 length victory. William & Corrine Heiligbrodt’s Cinco Charlie, the first member of the OBS class of 2014 to graduate and it’s first graded stakes winner, added Laurel’s $100,000 James F. Lewis III Stakes to his resume on Saturday, battling head to head for the lead before opening up in the stretch and drawing off to a 2-3/4 length victory. It’s the third stakes win for the Indian Charlie colt, purchased by the Heiligbrodts for $190,000 out of the Cary Frommer consignment at the 2014 OBS March Sale after working an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. Zayat Stables, LLC’s Zee Bros, ignored at 29-1, took control of Saturday’s $350,000 Frank J. De Francis Memorial Stakes at Laurel nearing the top of the stretch and cruised from there to a 2-3/4 length victory. It’s the second stakes win for the well traveled 4-year-old colt by Brother Derek, sold to Zayat for $270,000 by Eisaman Equine, Agent, at the 2012 OBS April Sale after he sped a quarter in :21 flat at the Under Tack Show.
