Hip No. 593, a son of Trappe Shot consigned by Stuart Morris, Agent, went to Ciaran Dunne, Agent, for $140,000 to top the first Open session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2014 August Yearling Sale. The bay colt is out of Good Witch Glinda, by Unbridled’s Song, from the family of graded stakes winner Broom Dance.
Hip No. 478, a filly by Haynesfield consigned by Sue Vacek, Agent, was sold to Arboritanza Racing LLC for $80,000. The bay filly is out of Darjeeling, by Cat Thief, a half sister to stakes placed Swing Boldly.
Danzel Brendemuehl, Agent for Zweifach Clocker Z went to $70,000 for Hip No. 501, a Gone Astray colt consigned by Northwest Stud. The dark bay or brown colt is a half brother to stakes placed Major Hope. He’s out of stakes placed Double Major, by Bertrando, a half sister to champion Shared Belief, winner of the recent Pacific Classic (G1) at Del Mar.
Hip No. 300, a son of Flashstorm consigned by Northwest Stud, went to Doble Jak Investments LLC & Gelfenstein Farm for $55,000. The bay colt is out of You Know It’s True, by Yes It’s True, a half sister to stakes placed This Side Up.
Patrice Miller, EQB Inc, Agent for Zayat Stables, paid $55,000 for Hip No. 482, a daughter of Posse consigned by Beth Bayer, Agent. The chestnut filly is out of stakes placed D’ Country, by D’wildcat.
Hip No. 517, a chestnut daughter of Big Drama consigned by Silver Oaks Farm, Agent, was purchased for $50,000 by Matt Schera. She’s out of Emotional Roar, by Roar of the Tiger, a half sister to graded stakes winner Mayakovsky.
Hip No. 504, a High Cotton colt consigned by Camelot Acres Racing and Sales, was sold to Dr. Robert McMartin, Agent, for $45,000. A half brother to graded stakes placed Stormin’ Julia, the chestnut colt is out of Dream Storm, by Storm Bird.
For the session, 258 horses brought a total of $3,411,000, compared with 269 yearlings grossing $4,638,600 at last year’s first Open session. The average price was $13,221, compared with $17,244 in 2013, while the median price was $8,750 compared with $15,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 28.3%; it was 10.9%% last year.
The Open Yearling Sale’s final session begins Thursday at 10:30 a.m. It will again be streamed live via the OBS, Blood-Horse and Daily Racing Form websites.
