Fillies by Pioneerof the Nile and Flatter each sold for $90, 000 to top the first Open session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2013 August Yearling Sale. The daughter of Pioneerof the Nile, Hip No. 279, was consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds and sold to Mark Casse, Agent. The bay filly is out of stakes winner Smokin Again, by Smoke Glacken. Hip No. 413, a daughter of Flatter consigned by Beth Bayer, Agent, went to Mersad Metanovic Bloodstock. The dark bay or brown filly is out of Albany Park, by Empire Maker, a half sister to stakes winner Tigi.
Hip No. 470, a son of Forefathers consigned by Select Sales, Agent, was purchased by Southern Chase Farm, Inc. for $88,000. The dark bay or brown colt is out of Bojangle’s Cat, by Tabasco Cat.
Midwest Thoroughbreds went to $80,000 for Hip No. 332, a son of Midnight Lute consigned by Camelot Acres Racing and Sales. The dark bay or brown colt is out of Think of Laura, by Siphon (BRZ), from the family of stakes winner Valid Line.
Hip No. 223, Sugar Cane Royalty, a filly by Dunkirk consigned by M.E.C.C.O. Sales LLC (Mary Ellen Coenen), Agent, was sold to De Berdt & Scanlon, Agent, for $77,000. The bay filly, out of Royal Sweep, by End Sweep, is a half sister to stakes winner In the Fairway.
Hip No. 274, a son of Imperialism consigned by Sue Vacek, Agent, was purchased by Nick de Meric, Agent, for $75,000. Out of Sky’s Honor, by Double Honor, the dark bay or brown colt is a half brother to stakes winner Sweetmarys Success.
Hip No. 301, a daughter of Tiz Wonderful consigned by Sugar Hill LLC, Agent, was sold for $65,000 to Phaedrus Flights LLC. The dark bay or brown filly is out of Stellar Strength, by Gone West, a half sister to graded stakes winner Western Pride.
For the session, 262 yearlings grossed $4,601,600 compared with 211 horses bringing a total of $2,915,600 at last year’s first Open session. The average price was $17,563, up 27.1% compared with $13,818 last year, while the median price rose 50% from $10,000 last year to $15,000. The buyback percentage was 13.2%; it was 19.5% in 2012. Eleven horses sold for $50,000 or more compared with eight a year ago. The total gross for the first two sessions of $12,276,600 has already surpassed last year’s three day total of $10,874,500.
