Colts by Birdstone and Pulpit were sold for $375, 000 to top the third session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2013 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training.
Hip No. 607, a son of Birdstone consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, went to Michael Dilger, Agent. The chestnut colt, who worked an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of graded stakes placed Literary Light, by Ide, a full sister to stakes winner Junior College.
Donato Lanni, Agent, bought Hip No. 866, by Pulpit, consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent. The bay colt, who worked an eighth in :10 flat, is out of Rhythmical Beat, by Fusaichi Pegasus, a half sister to graded stakes winner Mutakddim.
Hip No 890, Thank You Daddy, whose quarter mile breeze in :20 2/5 was the sale’s fastest at the distance, was sold to Conquest Stables LLC for $370,000. The bay filly by Hear No Evil, consigned by Blue River Bloodstock, Agent, is out of Saint Sammi, by Saint Ballado, a full sister to graded stakes winner Flame Thrower.
Mike House and Sam Britt paid $350,000 for Hip No. 645, a dark bay or brown colt by Flatter consigned by Halcyon Hammock Farm, Agent. Out of Malamado, by Broken Vow, a half sister to graded stakes winner Tar Heel Mom, he worked an eighth at the Under Tack Show in :10 1/5.
Hip No. 685, a daughter of Old Fashioned consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, went to Simon Callaghan for $340,000. The dark bay or brown filly, who sped an eighth in :9 4/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of stakes placed Miss Puzzle (AUS), by Citidancer (IRE), and is a half sister to stakes winner Mr. Candy Bar.
Conquest Stables LLC went to $300,000 for Hip No. 701, a daughter of Colonel John out of More Oats Please, by Smart Strike, a half sister to stakes winner Miss Valentine. Consigned by Scanlon Training Center, Agent, the bay filly worked an eighth at the Under Tack Show in :10 1/5.
Hip No. 613, a dark bay or brown colt by In Summation consigned by Azpurua Stables, Agent, was sold for $250,000 to Steven W. Young, Agent. A half brother to graded stakes placed St. Joe out of Load Up, by Dove Hunt, he breezed a quarter in :20 3/5 at the Under Tack Show.
Hip No. 618, sold to Alex & JoAnn Lieblong for $230,000, is a son of Officer out of stakes placed Loramateal, by Storm Creek. The chestnut colt, consigned by Harris Training Center, Agent, sped an eighth in :9 4/5 at the Under Tack Show.
Hip No. 860, a son of Run Away and Hide whose eighth last Thursday in :9 3/5 was the sale’s co-fastest at the distance, was sold to David M. Clark for $220,000. The bay colt, consigned by Old South Farm, Agent, is out of Regal Bird, by Grand Slam, a half sister to graded stakes placed Ghost Ring.
Bear Stables, Ltd., Linda Rice, Agent, went to $210,000 for Hip No. 822, a bay colt by Freud out of Pulpit’s Pride, by Pulpit. Consigned by Sequel Bloodstock, Inc. (Becky Thomas), Agent, he worked an eighth in :10 flat last Thursday.
For the day, 205 horses brought a total of $13,465,000 compared with 202 horses grossing $8,526,700 at last year’s third session. With one session remaining, the cumulative gross after three sessions is $38,563,500, surpassing the previous Spring Sale record $33,506,400, set over four sessions in 2012.
The average was $65,683, a gain of 55.6% from $42,211 a year ago, while the median price was $40,000, up 48.1% from $27,000 at the corresponding session in 2012. The buyback percentage was 14.6%; it was 13.3% last year. Forty-two horses sold for $100,000 or more compared with 16 in 2012.
