Hip No. 143, a colt by Flatter out of Well, by Well Decorated, was sold to L E B for $480,000 to top the first session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2013 March Sale of Selected 2-Year-Olds in Training. The gray or roan colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show, was consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent. He’s a half brother to graded stakes winner Well Spelled.
Polo Green Stable, Agent, went to $370,000 for Hip No. 120, a Malibu Moon colt consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent. The dark bay or brown colt, who worked an eighth in :10 2/5, is out of stakes winner Travelator, by A.P Jet.
Hip No. 148, a filly by Pioneerof the Nile consigned by Sequel Bloodstock, Inc. (Becky Thomas), Agent bought by Stonestreet Stables LLC for $350,000. The bay filly, whose eighth in :9 4/5 was the sale’s co-fastest at the distance, is out of stakes winner Wild Catseye, by Forest Wildcat.
Hip No. 98, a filly by High Cotton consigned by SGV Thoroughbreds (Steven Venosa), Agent, went to Pelican LLC, Peter Miller, Agent, for $340,000. The chestnut filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5, is out of Sunshine Song, by War Chant, and is a half sister to graded stakes winner Den’s Legacy.
Hip No. 132, a Speightstown colt consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, was sold to John McCormack Bloodstock LLC for $330,000. The dark bay or brown colt out of stakes placed Union City, by Dixie Union, worked an eighth in :10 flat.
Wavertree also consigned Hip No. 100, a colt by War Front sold to Barry Berkelhammer, Agent, for $315,000. The bay colt, who worked an eighth in :10 1/5, is out of Susan Jane, by Jump Start, a half sister to stakes winner Lydia Jane.
Hip No. 28, a colt by D’wildcat consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, went to Whispering Oaks Farm for $300,000. The dark bay or brown colt, who worked an eighth in :10 flat, is out of graded stakes winner Rabiadella, by Dynaformer.
Mike McCarty went to $300,000 for Hip No. 36, Angelus, a colt by Empire Maker consigned by McKathan Bros., Agent, The dark by or brown colt, out of stakes placed Redhead Riot, by Top Account, worked an eighth in :10 1/5.
Hip No. 58, a Henny Hughes colt consigned by Southern Chase Farm Inc. (Greg and Karen Dodd), Agent, was sold to Susan Chu for $300,000. The chestnut colt, whose quarter in :20 3/5 was the Under Tack Show’s fastest at the distance, is out of Sea Gift, by A.P. Indy, a daughter of graded stakes winner Ocean Queen.
For the day, 97 horses sold for a total of $13,544,000, compared with 94 horses bringing $12,019,500 at last year’s opening session. The average price was $139,629, up 9.2% compared with $127,867 last year, while the median price was $120,000, up 23.1% from $97,500 in 2012. The buyback percentage was 20.2% it was 24.2 % a year ago. Sixty-one horses sold for $100,000 or more compared with 47 a year ago.
