Hip No. 630, a yearling filly by Tale of the Cat consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, was sold to Bill Fleming for $57,000 to top the Open session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2013 Winter Mixed Sale. The bay filly is out of stakes winner She’s Sensational, by Point Given.
Hip No. 438, a yearling filly by Summer Bird consigned by Beth Bayer, Agent, went to Bill Fleming for $35,000. The dark bay or brown filly, out of Cape North, by Capote, is a half sister to stakes winner Fufty Two.
Nick de Meric, Agent, went to $35,000 for Hip No. 539, a yearling filly by High Cotton consigned by 4 M Ranch, Agent. The dark bay or brown filly is out of King’s Pact, by Slewacide, and is a half sister to stakes winner Thoroughly.
Hip No. 569, a City Zip filly consigned by Beth Bayer, Agent, was purchased by Tomas Vargas for $35,000. The chestnut filly is out of Mist Ya, by Runaway Groom, a daughter of graded stakes placed Victory Party.
Hip No. 425, a yearling colt by Forefathers consigned by 4 M Ranch, Agent, was sold to Anthony Costanzo for $27,000. The dark bay or brown colt, out of Belsay, by Leo Castelli, is a half brother to stakes winner Winamac Jack.
Costanzo also paid $27,000 for another 4 M Ranch consignee, Hip No.543, a yearling colt by Grasshopper. The chestnut colt is out of Kylie’s Dream, by Valid Expectations, a full sister to stakes winner Chit Chat Pam.
For the session, 164 horses sold for a total of $1,153,300, compared with 175 bringing $1,305,100 at the corresponding session last year. The average was $7,032 compared with $7,458 in 2012 while the median price was $4,350 compared with $4,500 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 33.9%; it was 25.5% in 2012.
At Tuesday’s Consignor Preferred session, 93 horses grossed $1,681,900 compared with 71 horses selling for a total of $1,267,000 last year. The average price was $18,085, a gain of 1.3% from $17,845 a year ago, while the median price was $14,000 compared with $15,000 in 2012. The buyback percentage was 35.4%; it was 29% a year ago.
For yesterday’s Horses of Racing Age section, 103 horses brought a total of $1,608,500 compared with 75 horses grossing $1,040,200 in 2012. The average price was $15,617, up 12.6% from $13,869 last year, while the median price was $8,000, up 14.3% compared to $7,000 in 2012. The buyback percentage was 22.6%; it was 24.2% last year.
The sale topper was Hip No. 297, Falling Sky, a 3-year-old colt by Lion Heart consigned by Off the Hook, and sold to Justin Casse, Agent, for $425,000. The Lion Heart colt, out of stakes placed Sea Dragoness, by Sea Hero, was a winner at first asking, a good fourth in the Inaugural Stakes on opening day at Tampa Bay Downs, and scored in a Gulfstream allowance race December 15th in his only other start.
