Hip No. 297, Falling Sky, a 3-year-old colt by Lion Heart consigned by Off the Hook, went to Justin Casse, Agent, for $425,000 to top the Horses of Racing Age section of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2013 Winter Mixed Sale. The Lion Heart colt, out of stakes placed Sea Dragoness, by Sea Hero, was a winner at first asking, a good fourth in the Inaugural Stakes on opening day at Tampa Bay Downs, and scored in a Gulfstream allowance race December 15th in his only other start.
Hip No. 188, At Large, a colt by Orientate whose three eighths in :32 4/5 was the Under Tack Show’s fastest at the distance, was sold to Alistair Roden Bloodstock for $65,000. Consigned by Thoroughbred Friends & Associates, Agent, the 3-year-old dark bay or brown colt is out of Catch Me Deputy, by Silver Deputy, a daughter of grade one winner Family Enterprize. Hip No. 294, Backfield Run, a 3-year-old filly by Put It Back, was sold to Eddie Plesa Jr., Agent for $60,000. The chestnut filly, who worked three eighths in :33 3/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of Run Like Martha, by Jolie’s Halo, and is a half sister to graded stakes winner Birdrun. Hip No. 296, Nicks World, sold to Charles Cella for $60,000, is a 3-year-old colt by Exchange Rate out of Sarah’s World, by Holy Bull. The gray or roan colt, a half brother to graded stakes winner Higher World, was consigned by Craig L. Wheeler, Agent. He worked in :33 2/5 at the Under Tack Show. |

Hip No. 186, Casual Trick, a 4-year-old stakes placed son of Bernardini consigned by Scanlon Training Center, Agent, was sold to Barry Berkelhammer, Agent, for $55,000. The bay ridgling, who breezed a half mile in :45 3/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of grade one winner Casual Look, by Red Ransom.
Glencrest Farm went to $80,000 for Hip No. 96, a yearling filly by Quality Road, to top the Consignor Preferred session. Consigned by Select Sales, Agent, the dark bay or brown filly is out of Migrate, by Storm Bird, and is a half sister to graded stakes winner Warning Zone.
Hip No. 125, a filly by Summer Bird out of stakes winner Season’s Flair, by D’Accord was sold to F M H B for $65,000. The chestnut yearling filly, a half sister to stakes winner Super Fuse, was consigned by Select Sales, Agent.
Get Away Farm went to $65,000 for Hip No. 129, a colt by Leroidesanimaux (BRZ) consigned by Beth Bayer, Agent. The gray or roan yearling colt is out of Silver Lisa, by Holy Bull, a full sister to stakes winner Mekko Hotke.
Hip No. 78, Lacie Slew, a 6-year-old broodmare prospect by Mineshaft consigned by Sue Vacek, Agent, was sold to Live Oak Stud for $62,000. The stakes winning chestnut mare is out of stakes winner Lacie Girl, by Editor’s Note.
The day’s highest priced broodmare was Hip No. 102, Golden Peach, an 8-year-old Touch Gold mare in foal to Scat Daddy, sold to H&E Ranch for $60,000. Consigned by Kaizen Sales (Richard Kent), Agent, the chestnut mare is out of stakes winner Peaks Mill, by Stalwart, and is a half sister to graded stakes winner Belgravia.
For the Horses of Racing Age section, 103 horses brought a total of $1,608,500 compared with 75 horses grossing $1,040,200 in 2012. The average price was $15,617, up 12.6% from $13,869 last year, while the median price was $8,000, up 14.3% compared to $7,000 in 2012. The buyback percentage was 22.6%; it was 24.2% last year.
For the Consignor Preferred session, 93 horses grossed $1,681,900 compared with 71 horses selling for a total of $1,267,000 last year. The average price was $18,085, a gain of 1.3% from $17,845 a year ago, while the median price was $14,000 compared with $15,000 in 2012. The buyback percentage was 35.4%; it was 29% a year ago.
