Colts by Curlin and Bernardini sold for $700, 000 each to share honors as the day’s top priced horses at the third session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2014 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training.
Consigned by Old South Farm LLC, Agent, Hip No. 630, by Curlin, was sold to McKathan Bros., Agent for Fog City Stables. The chestnut colt, who worked an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show, is out of graded stakes winning millionaire Silent Eskimo, and is a half brother to stakes placed Silent Fusaichi.
Hip No 741, by Bernardini, went to Donato Lanni, Agent. Consigned by Northwest Stud, the dark bay or brown colt, who breezed a quarter in :21 flat at the Under Tack Show, is out of grade one winner Tarlow, by Stormin Fever.
Hip No. 779, a son of Super Saver consigned by Crupi’s New Castle Farm, Agent, was purchased by Mark Casse, Agent, for $525,000. The bay colt, out of Tiz Fate, by Tiznow, a half sister to stakes winner Yoursmineours, worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5.
D P Racing LLC went to $400,000 for Hip No. 749, a dark bay or brown colt by Super Saver consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent. Out of Tell Some Fibs, by Tale of the Cat, a half sister to grade one winner My Trusty Cat, he breezed a quarter in :21 1/5 at the Under Tack Show.
Hip No. 844, a bay colt by Indian Charlie consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, was purchased for $400,000 by Cam Allard after working a quarter in :21 3/5 at the Under Tack Show . A half brother to stakes winner Ready to Live, he’s out of Viva La Viva, by Crafty Prospector. Hip No. 640, a son of Bob and John also consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, went to Blackgold Racing for $210,000. Out of Singing Doe, by Running Stag, a half sister to stakes winner Awesome I Am, the bay colt worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat.
Scanlon Training Center, Agent, consigned Hip No. 797 a son of Include sold to Maverick Racing for $325,000. The bay colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5, is out of Triple o’ Five, by Elusive Quality, and is a half brother to stakes winner Cat Five’ O.
Conquest Stables LLC paid $250,000 for Hip No 786, a bay colt by Stormy Atlantic out of Toula, by Bold Executive, a half sister to champion Sweetest Thing. Consigned by A. R. Equine, Agent, he breezed a quarter in :21 flat at the Under Tack Show.
Hip No. 866, consigned by Stephens Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, is a bay colt by Eskendereya sold to Bo Bromagen, Agent for Ashbrook Farm Ltd. for $220,000. Out of Where Is the Bling, by Tiznow, a half sister to graded stakes winner Too Much Bling, he worked an eighth at the Under Tack Show in :10 4/5.
Klaravich Stable, Inc. went to $200,000 for Hip No. 702, a daughter of Artie Schiller consigned by Mayberry Farm, Agent. The bay filly, who breezed an eighth in : 10 1/5 last Thursday, is out of Street Chant, by Street Cry (IRE), a half sister to stakes winner Johnny Dollar.
Hip No. 807, a son of Super Saver consigned by Harris Training Center LLC, Agent, was sold to D P Racing LLC for $200,000. The dark bay or brown colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 2/5, is out of stakes winner Turkappeal, by Turkoman, and is a half sister to graded stakes winner Pink Champagne. DP Racing also paid $200,000 for Hip No. Hip 888, a dark bay or brown Street Sense colt who breezed an Under Tack eight in :10 1/5. Consigned by Grassroots Training & Sales LLC, he’s out of Winner, by Horse Chestnut (SAF), and is a half brother to graded stakes placed Private Ensign.
Donato Lanni, Agent, paid $200,000 for Hip No. 858, Oscarino, a son of Malibu Moon out of Well Heeled Lady, by Broad Brush, a half sister to graded stakes winner Sweet Hope. The bay colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 2/5 at the Under Tack Show, was consigned by Shadybrook Farm, Inc. (Michael Yates), Agent.
For the day, 190 horses grossed $15,666,000, compared with 213 horses selling for a total of $13,644,000 at last year’s third session. The average was $82,453, rising 28.7% above last year’s $64,056, while the median jumped 30% from $40,000 in 2013 to $52,000. The buyback percentage was 20.5%; it was 11.3% a year ago. Fifty-four horses sold for $100,000 or more compared with 42 a year ago.
