Twenty OBS graduates enter Breeders’ Cup

A contingent of twenty OBS graduates has been pre-entered for the 2013 Breeders’ Cup. Racing’s biggest event, now held over two days, is set for next Friday and Saturday, November 1st and 2nd at Santa Anita. Last  year’s Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) winner and champion sprinter Trinniberg leads the large group of OBS alumni to the Breeders’ Cup’s 30th renewal, joined by the sensational unbeaten juvenile filly My Conquestadory and ageless Flat Out, taking on the best horses in training in North America’s richest race.

Juvenile Filllies Turf: My Conquestadory, two for two after her impressive victory in Keeneland’s $400,000 Darley Alcibiades Stakes (G1) on October 4th, beat colts when she broke her maiden in her debut in Woodbine’s TVG Summer Stakes (G2) on grass in September. Trainer Mark Casse has entered her in both Friday’s $1-million Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) and Saturday’s $1-million Juvenile Fillies (G1) on the main track, with first preference in the turf test. The 2-year-old daughter of Artie Schiller was sold for $240,000 by Eisaman Equine, Agent, at the 2013 OBS March Sale, after turning in a eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. Juvenile Turf: Friday’s $1-million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) has attracted a pair of OBS graduates, Sharon Alesia, Bran Jam Stables, Ciaglia Racing LLC and Peter A. Eurton’s Dance With Fate and Reddam Racing, LLC’s Ontology. Ontology, trained by Simon Callaghan, fourth in Del Mar’s Best Pal Stakes (G2), was second in both the Hollywood Juvenile and Oak Tree Juvenile Turf Stakes. The 2-year-old colt by Tapit brought $210,000 when purchased out of the Wavertree Stables consignment at the 2013 OBS March Sale. watch his under tack video

Dirt Mile: W C Racing, David Kenny and RAP Racing’s Santa Anita Derby (G1) winner Goldencents will carry the OBS banner in Friday’s $1-million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1). Trained by Doug O’Neill, the 3-year-old colt by Into Mischief comes into the race off a second place finish in the Santa Anita Sprint Championship Stakes (G1). Purchased for $62,000 by the trainer’s brother Dennis out of the Southern Chase Farm (Greg and Karen Dodd) consignment at the 2012 OBS June Sale, he has three graded stakes wins to his credit and earnings of over $1.4-million. watch his under tack video 

 

Juvenile Fillies: My Conquestadory is joined by two other OBS graduates in the Juvenile Fillies. Westrock Stables LLC’s Secret Compass, winner of Santa Anita’s $250,000 Chandelier Stakes (G1) on September 28th has won two of four starts and has earned $216,120. Trained by Bob Baffert the daughter of Discreet Cat was sold for $425,000 by Eddie Woods, Agent, at the 2013 March Sale after a quarter in :21 flat at the Under Tack Show. watch her under tack video

Trainer Doug O’Neill has entered Reddam Racing, LLC’s Sorrento Stakes (G2) winner Concave in the Juvenile Fillies. Third in the Del Mar Debutante (G1) in her only other stakes try, the 2-year-old daughter of Colonel John comes into the race with $121,200 in the bank. She was sold for sold for $160,000 by de Meric Sales, Agent, at the 2013 OBS March Sale. watch her under tack video

Filly & Mare Sprint: Castleton Lyons, Inc.’s Starship Truffles represents OBS in Saturday’s seven furlong $1-million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1). A winner of five of ten starts this year, the 4-year-old Florida-bred filly by Ghostzapper romped to a 3-3/4 length victory in Calder’s $350,000 Princess Rooney Handicap (G1) on July 6th. A two-time OBS graduate with earnings of $445,035, she was sold for $22,000 by Nickajack/Rey de Oros at the 2011 OBS June Sale after they consigned her to the 2011 April Sale. watch her under tack video

 

Turf Sprint: The $1-million Geico Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) has attracted five OBS graduates. James Hirschmann III and Bluegrass Industries LLC’s Boat Trip, also entered with second preference in the $2-million Mile (G1), comes into the race off a second place finish in Santa Anita’s Eddie D Stakes (G3) on September 27th.  The 4-year-old stakes winning Harlan’s Holiday colt was sold for $100,000 by Bo Hunt, Agent, at the 2011 OBS March Sale. watch his under tack video

Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners’ Capo Bastone was ignored at 28-1 in Saratoga’s $500,000 King’s Bishop Stakes (G1) in his last start, but the 3-year-old son of Street Boss came flying in the stretch and scored his first stakes win by two lengths. Sold for $175,000 by de Meric Sales, Agent, at the 2012 OBS March Sale, he comes into the Turf Sprint with earnings of $659,608. Trainer Todd Pletcher has also entered him in the $1.5-million Sprint (G1).  watch his under tack video

Robert J. Wright and Robert V. La Penta’s millionaire Jeranimo brings a resume of seven graded stakes wins into the Turf Sprint, the most recent victory in Del Mar’s $300,000 Eddie Read Stakes (G1) on July 20th. Also entered with second preference in the Mile (G1), the 7-year-old Florida-bred son of Congaree was sold for $50,000 by On Course Sales, Agent, at the 2007 OBS August Sale.

 

 

Trainer Peter Miller has entered Lanni Family Trust’s Reneesgotzip in the Turf Sprint and also entered the 4-year-old daughter of City Zip with second preference in the Sprint (G1). She comes into the race off a track record performance in Del Mar’s $150,000 Rancho Bernardo Handicap (G3) on August 18th, running 6-1/2 furlongs in 1:14 2/5. Her second graded stakes score boosted her bankroll to $655,460.  She was sold by Ricky Leppala, Agent, for $45,000 at the 2011 OBS April Sale.  watch her under tack video

Steve Asmussen sends Mike McCarty’s graded stakes winner Unbridled’s Note, second in the Turf Sprint last year, into the 2013 renewal off a third place finish in Santa Anita’s Eddie D Stakes (G3). The 4-year-old colt by Unbridled’s Song, with earnings of $504,017, was sold for $140,000 by Jerry Bailey Sales Agency, Agent, at the 2011 OBS March Sale. watch his under tack video

Juvenile: Four OBS grads are entered in the $2-million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. Reddam Racing, LLC’s Bond Holder was a maiden going into Santa Anita’ $250,000 FrontRunner Stakes (G1) on September 28th, but he ran by fellow OBS graduate Dance With Fate  in deep stretch and won by 2-1/4 lengths. The 2-year-old colt by Mineshaft, trained by Doug O’Neill, was sold by Crupi’s New Castle Farm, Agent, for $125,000 in March after an eighth in :10 2/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

Sharon Alesia, Bran Jam Stables, Ciaglia Racing LLC and Peter A. Eurton’s Dance With Fate comes into the Juvenile off a pair of seconds in the Del Mar Futurity (G1) and FrontRunner Stakes (G1). The 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by Two Step Salsa, trained by Eurton, was sold for $120,000 by Best A Luck Farm, Agent, at the 2013 OBS April Sale. watch his under tack video

Trainer Mark Casse, making a habit of winning stakes with maidens this year, sent Conquest Stables LLC’s Conquest Titan out for his first win in Woodbine $125,500 Swynford Stakes on August 24th.  The 2-year-old colt by Birdstone was sold for $475,000 by Paul Sharp, Agent, at the 2013 OBS March Sale after working an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

Team Valor International’ Mexikoma tries stakes company for the first time in the Juvenile, coming into the race off a Delaware Park maiden victory on September 12th. The 2-year-old colt by Birdstone was purchased for $55,000 out of the Wavertree Stables consignment at the 2013 OBS April Sale. watch his under tack video

Turf: In the mile and a half $3-million Breeder’s Cup Turf (G1), Kretz Racing LLC’s Tale of a Champion takes some some of the world’s top grass horses. A 5-year-old son of Tale of the Cat, he’s won two of six starts this year including a victory in Hollywood’s $200,250 Charles Whittingham Memorial Handicap (G2) on June 8th. Sold for $13,000 by Eddie Woods, Agent at the 2010 OBS April Sale, he comes into the race with earnings of $269,958. watch his under tack video

Sprint:  The $1.5-million Xpressbet Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) has attracted five OBS graduates. On the comeback trail after more than a year on the sidelines, Michael E. Pegram , Karl Watson, Paul Weitman’s Secret Circle returned to the races for trainer Bob Baffert at Santa Anita last week and warmed up for the Sprint with a six furlong allowance win in 1:07 4/5. A multiple graded stakes winner at three, the 4-year-old colt by Eddington, never worse than second in eight starts and OBS’ newest millionaire with earnings of $1,053,790, was was sold for $165,000 by Flying Fish, Agent, at the 2011 OBS March Sale. watch his under tack video

 
Edward J. Brown Jr., Philip Lebherz and Alan M. Klein’s Majestic Stride, who chased Secret Circle in last year’s Southwest Stakes (G3) at Oaklawn Park, has also returned running from an extended vacation, scoring two straight wins. Trained by Jeff Bonde, the 4-year-old Florida-bred colt by Trippi was sold for $50,000 by Kaizen Sales, Agent, at the 2010 OBS August Sale.

Sherry Parbhoo’s Trinniberg returns to defend his title in the Sprint. The Eclipse Award winning 4-year-old colt by Teuflesberg, trained by Shivananda Parbhoo, has four graded stakes wins to his credit and comes into the race with earnings of $1,553,086. He was sold for $21,000 by M & H Training and Sales, Agent, at the 2011 OBS April Sale.  watch his under tack video

Boat Trip and Jeranimo, also noted above, are entered in the $2-million Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) on second preference.

Classic: Finally, Preston Stable LLC’s Flat Out takes on the best horses in training in the $5-million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1). Trained by Bill Mott and still a tough out at the age of seven, the Florida-bred son of Flatter took home the Westchester Stakes (G3) and Suburban Handicap (G2) this year. His five graded stakes wins include consecutive victories in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) at Belmont Park. Sold for $11,000 as a weanling by Thoroughstock, Agent, at the 2006 OBS Fall Mixed Sale, he’s earned over $3.1-million.
