UNDER TACK EXAMINATION FORM (PAPER)
To be printed out, completed and turned in at the front office by 4:00 pm two days prior to a horse's scheduled under tack day.
UNDER TACK EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS
- All horses are required to be physically examined (including heart auscultation) by their attending veterinarian prior to participating in an under tack show. Veterinarians must submit a statement that they have examined the horses under their care and they are suitable for participation in the under tack show.
- Attending veterinarians’ examinations must include a jog-up exam on each horse
- Examinations must be performed no earlier than 72 hours prior to a horse’s scheduled under tack day. Examinations must be turned in by 4 pm two days prior to a horse’s scheduled under tack day. This allows for two working days to perform the exams. See schedule below:
| Breeze Day | Exams May Begin | Deadline for Submission |
|---|---|---|
| March 4 | March 1 @ 8:00 am | March 2 @ 4:00 pm |
| March 5 | March 2 @ 8:00 am | March 3 @ 4:00 pm |
| March 6 | March 3 @ 8:00 am | March 4 @ 4:00 pm |
| March 7 | March 4 @ 8:00 am | March 5 @ 4:00 pm |
- The statement must be signed by the attending veterinarian and submitted to OBS by the veterinarian either through the OBS Veterinarian portal or via the examination form provided by OBS.
- Horses deemed not suitable to participate in an under tack show or without veterinarian statements will not be allowed to participate in an under tack show.
- If a horse suffers an unforeseen temporary issue and cannot perform on their scheduled day, OBS will work to accommodate those horses on a later day of the under tack show. Those horses will require a statement from the attending veterinarian with an explanation of the issue requiring extra time and a statement prior to the horse breezing affirming their suitability to perform in the under tack show.
APPROVAL LANGUAGE FOR UNDER TACK SHOW EXAMINATIONS
“I have performed a physical examination of the above horse(s) within the prescribed time period, inclusive of an evaluation for any gait or heart abnormalities. In my opinion:
- The examined horse(s) appear to be free of clinical abnormalities that would preclude it from safely participating in the under tack show, or
- The horse is not suitable for participation in the under tack show for the stated reason(s)
This examination cannot be relied upon as a declaration that this horse will be free of abnormalities on any subsequent date. This is not a warranty.”
