Independence Hall Colt Breezes Fastest Quarter in Day 4 of OBS Spring Under Tack Show

A dark bay colt by Independence Hall out of the Candy Ride (ARG) mare Waltzing made the most of ideal weather conditions on the day when he breezed a quarter in :20 2/5 to post the fastest time for the distance during the fourth day of the Under Tack show for the 2025 OBS Spring Two-Year-Olds in Training sale.

Consigned by Wavertree Stables as Hip 619, the colt comes from a family with proven ability on both turf and dirt. Waltzing is a half-sister to graded stakes winner Dancing Solo as well as Grade 1 placed Dancing. The mare is also out of a full sister to Grade 1 winner Voodoo Dancer.

Given the way the colt prepped in the weeks leading up to his under-tack outing, Ciaran Dunne of Wavertree was quietly optimistic the breeze would pan out as impressive as it did.

“We were probably as confident bringing him up there as you could be with a horse,” Dunne said. “You don’t ever expect one to go in :20 2/5, I think that’s the first time we’ve had one go that fast. In terms of how he trained and prepped, he couldn’t have given any better signs than he was giving.

“Physically, he’s a stunning horse. He’s a big rangy horse, very athletic. He surpassed all expectations. I would say that the only way anybody doesn’t like him is if they don’t like horses.”

Seven juveniles breezed an eighth in :9 4/5 to tie for the fastest time at that distance:

  • Hip 531, a bay filly by OBS grad Kantharos out of That’s My Cue by Quality Road consigned by Grassroots Training & Sales LLC. The filly hails from the female family of champion Ajina and Grade 1 winners Quality Road and Zulu Alpha.
  • Hip 564, a bay filly by Rock Your World out of Touch of Gray by Graydar consigned by Julie Davies LLC.
  • Hip 578, a bay filly by Tiz the Law consigned by Kings Equine out of the stakes winning graded stakes place mare Tulsa Queen, by Cactus Ridge.
  • Hip 585, a bay colt by OBS grad Yaupon out of Twitterpated by Stormy Atlantic consigned by de Meric Sales. Twitterpated is a full sister to Grade 1 winner Stormy Lucy.
  • Hip 627, a bay colt by Complexity consigned by Top Line Sales LLC out of the winning mare We Love Lucy, by OBS April grad Majesticperfection, The colt is a half-brother to stakes winner Reasoned Analysis.
  • Hip 677, a dark bay or brown filly by Good Magic out of the winning Ecclesiastic mare Acqua Fresh (URU) consigned by Top Line Sales LLC. The filly is from the female family of Canadian champion King Ruckus and multiple graded stakes winner Repent.
  • Hip 680, Keep Praying, a bay colt by Win Win Win out of Additional Prayer by Songandaprayer consigned by Camelot Acres Racing and Sales. The colt is a half brother to multiple stakes winner and OBS grad Hear My Prayer.

Hip 632, a bay colt by Caracaro consigned by Global Thoroughbreds LLC was the lone horse to work in :20 3/5. The colt is out of the winning mare Whatarocket by OBS grad Goldencents.

The OBS April under tack show continues April 9 at 8 a.m. with hips 692 – 863. The under tack show runs through April 12 with the sale itself taking place April 15-18 with sessions beginning at 10:30 a.m. each day.
