Daughter of Yaupon Posts Fastest Quarter During Day 2 of OBS Spring Under Tack Show

For Immediate Release

Against a backdrop of warm and windy conditions, the second day of the Under Tack show for the 2025 OBS Spring Two-Year-Olds in Training sale transpired with a bay filly by OBS grad Yaupon posting the fastest time for a quarter when she breezed in :20 2/5.

Consigned by Tom McCrocklin, Hip 181 is out of the Malibu Moon mare Moon Over Mag Bay, who is out of stakes winner and OBS grad Believe In Charlie. The filly hails from the female family of Grade 1 winner and OBS grad Nany’s Sweep.

A total of eight juveniles breezed an eighth of a mile in :9 4/5 to tie for the fastest time at the distance.

Jody Mihalic and David McKathan’s Grassroots Training & Sales, which sent out the lone filly to go in :9 4/5 on Sunday, had another standout session as four members of his consignment clocked in at the top time. Included in that quartet were:

  •  Hip 234, a dark bay or brown filly by Authentic out of the winning stakes placed mare Onebrethatatime. A daughter of Brethren, Onebrethatatime is a half-sister to graded stakes winner Wonderlandbynight and Grade 1 producer Gilded Miracle.
  • Hip 239, a bay filly by Army Mule out of Our Irish Lassie’s by Yes It’s True. Our Irish Lassie’s is a half-sister to graded stakes winner and graded producer Maddalena.
  • Hip 279, a dark bay or brown filly by Temple City out of Possession of War. By OBS grad Midnight Lute, Possession of War is a half-sister to stakes winner Orbs Baby Girl.
  • Hip 332, a chestnut colt by Leinster out of Renovation by Alternation. Renovation is a half-sister to graded stakes winner Hierro and multiple stakes winner Cherokee Triangle.

Hip 329, Squib, a bay filly by Not This Time out of the winning Arch mare Remarqued, was among the group to record the leading time and boasts a pedigree that is already ripe with OBS success. Consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Remarqued herself is an OBS grad and is a half-sister to fellow OBS grad Crimson Advocate – winner of the 2023 Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot – as well as hailing from the female family of champion and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) winner Caledonia Road.

“She’s quick and obviously the stallion is very, very good with fillies and colts,” Brennan said of Squib. “She’s matured a lot. She’s medium sized but she’s very balanced and very efficient on the racetrack. She had a nice prep last week and she gave us every indication she would work very well.”

With both dirt and turf aptitude in her bloodlines, as well as Not This Time’s ability to throw top-class runners on either surface, Brennan feels Squib could have a variety of suitors when she enters the sale ring.

“The pedigree is there. She’s not limited at all,” Brennan said. “This filly has the page to back her up.”
