Son of Gun Runner Headlines Final Day of OBS March Under Tack Show

With overcast skies providing comfortable temperatures and light wind throughout the day, the final session of the 2025 OBS March Two-Year-Olds in Training under tack show wrapped up March 8, highlighted by a son of Gun Runner who breezed an eighth in :9 3/5 to post the fastest time at the distance.

Consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, Hip 654, a gray or roan colt out of Tynan by Liam’s Map became one of two horses during the three-day under tack show to go in :9 3/5, joining Hip 446, a filly by Caracaro consigned by On The Run Stables who worked on Friday.

The Gun Runner colt is the first foal out of Tynan, who is a half sister to graded stakes winners Pappacap and Boppy O – making Hip 654 a three-quarter sibling to Pappacap.

“He’s a nice horse. He’s always been very straightforward. He stepped right up and did his job today,” Woods said of the colt. “He’s very well made, he’s very balanced looking, and he’s a Gun Runner. They just run.”

Two horses breezed a quarter in :20 2/5, tying for the fastest time at the distance on the day:

  • Hip 601, a bay filly by Charlatan out of the Grade 1 placed Broken Vow mare Sweet Shirley Mae. Consigned by Hartley/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, the filly is a half-sister to stakes winner Mae Never No (IRE).
  • Hip 619, a bay filly by Aurelius Maximus consigned by Halcyon Hammock Farm, Agent. The filly is out of the stakes winning Valid Expectations mare Thievery, who is a full sister to stakes winners Big Texas Daddy and Namesake.

A total of 14 horses worked an eighth in :9 4/5:

  • Hip 548, a bay colt by Practical Joke out of So Jaded by Bernardini consigned by S B M Training and Sales, Agent. The colt hails from the female family of champion and OBS graduate Jewel Princess.
  • Hip 584, a bay filly by Honest Mischief out of Sugar Boss by Street Boss consigned by Sequel Bloodstock, Agent.

The OBS March under tack show was consolidated to three days after the rain and strong winds canceled the March 5 session.

The sale will take place March 11-13 with sessions beginning at 11 a.m. ET each day.
